Hm. I wonder why so many white people are pressed about Adam & Eve being Black?

And why are so many men are pressed about God being represented as a woman?

I saw Neil Gaiman speak a few weeks ago, and he talked about this exact thing. It was really interesting listening to him say (paraphrasing) “We did that on purpose so that the wrong people for the show would turn it off. If Adam and Eve being blacm offends them, the show isn’t for them, and the rest of the show is only going to offend them more.” Really interesting choice, and it looks like It’s working just as planned!

For real though, It’s better that the bigots bail in the first five minutes. Can you imagine if they watched all of it and realized how subversive the plot is? How it turns most religious beliefs on their heads and is gay to boot? Chaos and never ending white rage. I’m glad we don’t have to deal with that.

How are disabled and interracial illegal???

Interracial marriage was outlawed for the longest time, and disabled people lose government benefits when they get married so they cannot have reassurance that they will continue to LIVE if they get married.

Story time: my mom is white, dad is black. They’ve been together twenty four years, married for twenty three. When my parents were dating they did it on the low TO KEEP MY DAD SAFE.

My mom’s parents said “We don’t care who you love.” At that point she’d only ever brought home white guys. She brought my dad home-her mother called her a nigger lover and damned the relationship as much as possible. Her father grew around his prejudices after I was born but never apologized, just wasn’t a blatant fuck.

The day she introduced my father to her family was the last time she spoke to her mother for over twenty years. When I was getting sick and she called and asked her mother and grandmother if anyone in the family had anything strange happen similar what I was going through they told her “it’s because you married a black man. You made your bed, you lie in it.”

Cops pulled them over all the time and asked my mom IF SHE WAS OKAY AND IF SHE NEEDED HELP BECAUSE MY FATHER-A BLACK MAN-WAS DRIVING A 100 POUND WHITE WOMAN AROUND. HE WAS HARRASSED AND THREATED WITH ARREST.

My father ended up getting into a fight in self defence because some entitled hick decided he didn’t like seeing a black man and white woman in the bar together. Thankfully other patrons helped my father but he still couldn’t go to the er for his injuries. My mom patched him up and they were terrified the cops would take him away.

THEIR BEST FRIEND GOT LICENSED TO MARRY THEM SO THEY COULD ACTUALLY TIE THE KNOT BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WOULD AND CITED JIM CROW ERA LAW AS TO WHY.

When shopping with just me my father wouldn’t hold my hand if there was a group around. Why? I’m far lighter than him and people had stopped and asked him “whose child is that?” Or “little girl where’s your parents?” and were stunned when I grinned and pointed at my dad and proudly proclaimed “my daddy’s right here.” You know where else mixed kids couldn’t hold their parents hands? Apartheid South Africa. We live in fucking FLORIDA.

So yeah. Some history for you.

This post was made in October 2018. The above poster’s parents met in 1994. We were a generation removed from the Civil Rights movement and this was happening.

i love how scientists in fiction are always called  “scientists”. thats it. they wear a Labcoat Of +5 Science and +5 Medicine. They do not specialize in a tree of science, like Biology or Astrology.

No.

They are just Science Men ready to do Science.

“Do you understand what this could mean for science?

It could mean real advances in the field of SCIENCE”

Literature majors trying to figure out what everyone else does

Carlos The Scientist Palmer did not get a degree in Science to be mocked like this

Have you ever considered that Zemo’s plan to flush Bucky out of hiding by having people recognize him on the street would have failed if Bucky has just gotten himself a nice haircut and shaved and maybe tried not to look like the shiftiest sad hobo in Romania

Everyone may *think* they hate country music, but when Jolene, Before He Cheats, Take Me Home Country Roads, or Life is a Highway comes on, everyone is suddenly a liar.

I know this is a funny post but

There are a few major points in Country Music’s history that got the entire genre labeled as ‘annoying’

  • Post 9/11 nationalism
  • A term that I couldn’t make up “Bro-Country” which intensifies themes of booze, objectifying women, and partying that were present in past decades but not to such an extent
  • This is Gospel Music But With an Accent

Now looking at the songs op listed there is

  • A woman pleading to another woman
  • A woman wrecking a shitheads life
  • A guy loving the scenery of where he lived
  • A song that could easily be mistaken for a number of other genres

But it is easier to say that one hates country while privately enjoying select songs than explain why one doesn’t like the current market oversaturated with our nation’s problems of nationalism, sexism, and so on

see also jhonny cash/willie nelson era songs which were deeply emotional stories often about painful and deep subjects. prison, loss of loved ones, hard labor, facing despair, passion. ‘ghost riders in the sky’ and the like are also deeply satisfying as they bridge more into folklore then ‘murica fuck yeah im sponsored by bud light yall’ another example- ‘midnight in montgomery’ where hank williams junior sings about the ghost of his father

“ … And felt the wind die down, And a drunk man in a cowboy hat, Took me by surprise, Wearin’ shiny boots, a nudie suit, and haunted, haunted eyes, He said: “Friend, it’s good to see you, It’s nice to know you care” Then the wind picked up and he was gone, Was he ever really there? ‘Cause when the wind is right, You’ll hear his song, Smell whisky in the air, Midnight in Montgomery, He’s always singin’ there, “ the reason we ‘hate country’ is because we know its supposed to have FEELING and its infuriatingly absent now

70s country - bluegrass traditional

80s country - power ballads

90s country - pop crossover

00s country - white supremacy

Yeah, I thought I hated country until I moved in with someone who likes it and has exactly zero tolerance for the genre’s bullshittier elements.

Turns out I genuinely like large swaths of it. I just had to find someone with good taste and get down off my “I hate rap and country” racist, classist high horse long enough to listen.

Most teachers where I live will play country music cause it’s usually pretty clean while still not being disney or kidzbop and honest to god some of that shit smacks

I love women who are unabashedly big.

Women with big laughs, big smiles, big voices, big bodies, and even bigger personalities to match. Women that don’t care if they take up space with long strides and sit with their legs miles apart.

They give big hugs and big kisses, and they have big hearts. Big, proud women are amazing.

This posts includes trans women and excludes terfs, btw.

Adora is that one girl in high school who’s on honor roll, playing three sports, and volunteering for community service projects while also being friends with literally everyone in school and her life looks perfect but in actuality she gets four hours of sleep every night and is exactly half a second away from snapping at all points in time because she’s constantly stressed and afraid she won’t live up to the expectations of those around her

Willy Wonka au where the kids are treated as the misguided children they are and Wonka doesn’t punish them for their mistakes but helps to reform them. No one dies, they’re just put in dangerous situations and have to use their manners to get out (ex: Augustus has to share his food, Violet has to admit that she’s not all that, Veruca apologizes and recognizes that she can’t have everything she wants, Mike uses his smarts to find a way out of the TV), Charlie has flaws and is not an absolute perfect child. He whines or complains and gets mad because of how hungry he is and knows it’s wrong.

The kids end up learning lessons about themselves and are all granted access to the chocolate factory. All taking on roles that fit them

  • Charlie becomes the main candy inventor
  • Augustus becomes the taste tester
  • Violet creates hip pop songs for commercials
  • Veruca becomes head CEO, goes to all the meetings with business partners. No one can talk their way out of a deal with her. She’s very demanding
  • Mike becomes head of advertisement

Everyone learns that they can change and everyone is happy

hot take: the idea that characters need to Face Consequences for every bad action they take is entirely based on tumblr’s black-and-white morality and has no basis in actual narrative structure

a story where every single action receives its proper Karmatic Retribution is bound to be weak and feel stiff and predictable
