My blog for me artist thingy majigers

@em-art-corner

Just a blog for my art and whatnot. Also, I'm Undertale trash, heads up.

So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,

And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.

And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?

But nope, that's not the case:

Some selections from the article:

"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.

“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”

"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."

so SAG-AFTRA finally released some official guidance for fans, viewers, creators/influencers, critics, and more during the strike. here's what you need to know:

  1. if you see a publication/news source/journalist talking about a piece of struck work, that's ok. they're allowed to do that.

2. they're asking regular viewers and fans to DONATE TO STRIKE FUNDS, SHOW UP TO PICKETS IF YOU CAN, and please do NOT boycott streaming services or movies in theaters.

3. influencers, content creators, cosplayers, and anything in between is still a bit of a grey area, but they're asking people to use their best judgement. "organically" means UNPAID promo (like an invite to a premiere without being paid, being sent a publicity box, letting the company's social media post a photo of you in cosplay, etc).

obviously this doesn't answer every question, and isn't hard and fast rules for fanworks, but it can at least inform how you personally choose to move forward when posting online and moving publically. i hope this helps!

living with ADHD is really like having to parent a toddler but that toddler is your brain. and the toddler doesn’t want to go to bed 😠 or pick up the mess 😠 or brush their teeth 😠 and you have to persuade and TRICK your toddler brain into doing simple everyday easy tasks.

i have to make everything SO easy for myself and it’s so hard and i’m so exhausted and OH the toddler is throwing a tantrum again because they’re overstimulated brb

no one follows the trees warning

You know the parable about how the foolish man built his house upon sand and the wise man built his house upon rock and it’s always about having a sturdy foundation well there is also the fact of location which is that the sand probably used to be rock except it’s been eroded to sediment because it’s a FUCKING FLOODPLAIN

I feel like a dumbass, but @rapidashmascot just revolutionised my understanding of that parable.

My family quotes that parable loudly every time another planned housing community on a former floodplain gets inundated with water.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but it’s okay to love science but also want to go home occasionally #worklifebalance #cartoon #cartoons #comic #comics #instacomic #instacartoon #academia #science #research #errantscience

“it’s too hard” it’s okay if it can’t be easy!

+ ask people who have made a neocities if you are struggling, many people won’t be aggravated that you send an email asking where or how they learned to set up their webpage! like me and my page! i love emails!

+ start small, have reasonable goals set in mind! there is no such thing as a step too small! it took me several weeks just to figure out basic CSS!

+ don’t focus on it being good or presentable, focus on being able to understand what you did so you can grow from where you left off.

+ if you don’t have enough energy to do what you don’t know yet, have more fun with what you do know! don’t know how to style a page yet, but know how to add fun images, links, and text modifiers? slap some more in there!

+ have fun with your web page! all i post about on my pink little website is video games, dog trivia, with miscellaneous buttons, stamps, and quizzes! it’s my site, my house, my rules, my fun!

+ ask for help, the worst they can say is “i don’t know!”, or “i can’t help you!”

this site really hates people with ocd

“reblog this or you don’t support minorities!” “if you don’t reblog this then all of your followers should hate you!” “if you have a bad thought then you actually think that way and you’re a horrible person!” “you can only like ‘good’ things and if you like something ‘bad’ then you’re awful!” i am going to throttle you with my bare hands

kellen goff (voice of glamrock freddy, the daycare attendant/sun/moon and funtime freddy) has spoken out on twitter re: ai replicas of his voice. if you continue to produce or consume ai reproductions of his work, you are not only explicitly violating his boundaries, but you are contributing to a culture that will make it more difficult for him to continue to gain sustainable work in the future. now that he's made them known, let's please respect his wishes regarding the matter.

all workers' strikes are good. yes even if they're inconvenient. even if they're making your life harder. even if you don't get to watch your favourite tv show. workers fighting for their rights is ALWAYS a good thing

you want to help stop tumblr from murdering itself? here's how!

  • click this link and go to the support page, then click "contact support"
  • click on the category list and click on feedback
  • now you need to tell staff WHY putting in an algorithm will cause the site to fucking die, and be sure to be detailed and not a dick in it. theyre not gonna listen to feedback calling them assholes
  • viola, if @staff listens, we'll be fine

i encourage you to reblog this so we can get as many people leaving feedback as humanly possible. we need to let staff know this is an utterly terrible idea

by the way, tumblr has turned off asks on all of their staff blogs, so this is the only way to tell tumblr how you feel

sag-aftra press conference.

In case you missed it, SAG-AFTRA just finished up a press conference where they talked to union members and the press about what's up.

Here are the big things (that I remember):

  • The deadline extension from June 30 to July 12 was made in good faith on SAG-AFTRA's part. They thought the AMPTP would utilize the extra time to come to the table with a fair deal. They did not. It is suspected that they wanted the extension to have more time to promote their summer blockbusters.
  • The studios wanted to be able to have AI scans of background actors. These actors would be paid once, and then the studios would be able to keep the actors' likeness, use the data for eternity without the actors' consent, and never pay them again. Keep in mind that only two percent of SAG-AFTRA members are big names. This proposal would've affected the other ninety-eight percent of members, many of whom are living paycheck to paycheck at the moment.
  • The AMPTP tried to turn union membership against Fran Drescher (current union president) by circulating a picture of her "living it up" in Italy with Kim Kardashian. This was a work obligation on Drescher's part. She's a brand ambassador for a fashion line, and whenever she wasn't on set, she was working with the negotiation committee via Zoom and text.
  • The video that was sent out to union members on June 28, in which they were told that the negotiations were going well, was filmed before the negotiations got to the core issues – AI, residuals, etc.
  • The AMPTP's deal was "disrespectful and egregious."
  • The other labor unions in the industry stand in solidarity with each other.
  • Fran Drescher called the AMPTP's plan to wait out the WGA until they were homeless "unnecessary evil."
  • While SAG-AFTRA is open to returning to the negotiating table at any time, leadership was signaled that the AMPTP was not interested; they believe the strike could last for a while.

I never get tired of the thing where fantasy books name something by just calling it a word but capitalising it. Like oh shit, that person is a Wielder. The supernatural ability to see beyond matter called the Sight. Forces of Light and Darkness. The prohibited art of Knowing. A place simply known as The Blight. Awesome and horrible forces. The Force. You know something's getting bat shit wild when Fantasy Capitalisation comes into the picture. As in capitalising the letters, not the unholy act of seizing fantasy itself in order to churn profit off of it.

That is the work of evil creatures, like The Mouse.

People who like horror movies and games are freaks. "Oh but the gore isn't REAL!" yeah, well, it looks real. Why the hell are you engaging with the kind of content if you "supposedly" don't condone it in real life? Why are you watching torture porn if you don't condone actually torturing real people?

There's no difference between watching someone get tortured to death in a SAW film and watching an actual murder take place. It's all disgusting and ILLEGAL and anyone who watches or creates gore content is BASICALLY a murderer already. DNI you fucking criminal freaks!

It’s not so much that my sarcasm detector is broken, it’s more This Fucking Website, y’know?

I know I made another post about it but reblogging that this is 100% not serious- I was pissed off by someone whining about how “gore is different than SEX!!” So this happened.

the original sounds like something antis would totally write. it's way too realistic. holyshit.

and it's completely the argument made by certain christian groups about video games not that long ago.

See, I'm SO glad you brought up the video game thing because like... I think part of the reason the whole anti-shipping/anti-fiction movement bothers me SO MUCH is like...

I was fucking THERE for that. Like I was there for fandom-specific shit like the fucking downfall of FanFic.net but... I was also around for the "video games cause VIOLENCE!" thing and... I thought that was settled, at least on the side of things most of these young antis claims to be on.

Like. We've been there. We KNOW that fictional violence like video games and movies doesn't fucking cause people to be actually violent. We've been there. We've debated that. And we came out the other side going "yeah, there's no real evidence that shooter games are actually causing people to behave more violently, but there ARE a ton of other, real world things that have an impact, and let's look at all of that."

So it does drive me just a little bit nuts to see so many teens and younger adults like... Just jumping on the same fucking bandwagon as Republicans did when I was like. In grade school. The same bandwagon they've been on about anything queer since before I was born. The bandwagon they're on right fucking now trying to ban "morally wrong" content- aka anything alluding to sex ed or the existence of queer people.

We've settled this. And the logic applies across the board. Seeing something violent or taboo, or even seeing something good in media does not make you more inclined to do the thing. That isn't the way fiction and reality interact. Reading or watching something violent does not make you more likely to go out and do something violent.
