some ppl get so mad when ppl tell them to not be mean to strangers. you see long posts like ‘its not ableist to correct bad hygine’ ok maybe its not. whatever. but its also not your moral obligation to tell someone you barely know how greasy their hair is. like the likelyhood they know is pretty large, you can just say. nothing.

its fair to point out that a lot of people who have trouble with hygine are disabled. it’s also fair to say that some people aren’t. But like it’s not like you… have to say something. it’s not like you have to point it out in the first place. so like i dont rlly care if its ableist its just also kinda mean to tell someone publically they stink if they aren’t someone who know very well

sure, "I'm part of this marginalized group that I'm writing about" isn't a get out of jail free card for all bigotry, but if someone says "I'm portraying an exact experience I've had, this literally happened to me" and your response is "okayyy but think of the optics of showing that that happens? maybe keep that to yourself?" it might be time to reconsider your approach.

Black women and white women are both trans phobic but I have noticed there are unique specificities in the ways in which both groups are trans phobic that relate directly to how each group experiences womanhood. 

In conversations with black women, you almost never see the theme of spatial violation coming up. The central issue of transphobia within black communities is one of the fear of black women being further delineated from womanhood. This is because womanhood, as we define it in a modern context, is completely predicated upon the bodies and experiences of white women. So black women have often been denied womanhood, and often masculinized, and therefore the idea of “men” claiming womanhood gives credence to the fear that black women are masculine or even further from the definition of womanhood by relation. 

In conversations with white women, you never hear this theme. White women are not at all concerned about the idea that they may be pushed out of the definition of womanhood because they are the defining factor of what womanhood is considered in a modern context. What you see with white women is the age old theme of spatial violation. Violation is a very obsessed topic amongst white women for various reasons. So you see them speaking of the fear of men violating women spaces with a very specific undertone of violence, which, of course, calls back to sexual violence, i.e. rape. White women have a very unique obsession with rape as a political tool, in ways that other groups of women do not. 

This is because rape is ultimately about power, and the violation of one’s bodily autonomy. Unlike other groups of women, white women, do not have to deal with the historical and daily violation of their bodily autonomy in the ways in which other women have had to deal with it. So to white women, this is the most horrific thing that could potentially happen to them. Not that rape isn’t horrific for everyone, but for a group of people who never have to deal with this level of Violation, rape is the biggest fear.

This is why we see rape used as a tool to rally white women together. This fear of rape is something that is very unifying to white women across a lot of political axis, and we see the fear of rape being used to justify and uphold a lot of white supremacist social constructs Like those used against prison abolition.
