you fall in love with him so easily that those who watch you go ask if you are sure you have secured the rope. once you sat on your knees and looked into his eyes and told you that you needed him and it didn’t quite sound like a love song but god his name is all you’ve been singing where the angels are is not home. where he is, heaven is. you taste like whiskey and guilty and bad dreams that you wake up from drenched in sweat and screaming names of people you’ve let down. your hands never shake too badly to hold a bottle to your lips, but god, you wish that they did. you wish you had the spirit he sees in you because the minute he looks into your eyes, you know he’s seeing someone stronger than you actually are. you wrap him in your arms and the minute you are beside him, your earth slows and things make sense again. he smells like the soil and it covers the way you smell of graves. his jaw fits in the curve of your palm and when you kiss him, the brush of his stubble leaves you raw long after. he reminds you of pancake mornings and rough sex all in one. you want to take his hair in your fingers and smash his body against yours until both of you break apart and at the same time you want to hold him so close that nothing bad ever happens to him ever again, you want to fall asleep listening to his breathing. you look at him and realize that he could overturn your life and you’d kiss his rough hands for the effort. god. once you got on your knees for him, you never stood up again. you’ll always be his. the worst thing is: he knows it.
