I read a lot of girly-romance webcomics, because I’m a sucker for a fluffy love story. There are tons with contract marriages/relationships, or the rich dude buys out the whole clothing/jewelry boutique just for the gal. I kinda roll my eyes at that stuff, because I’d rather the gal choose what she likes. Not just have everything pushed on her.

But this new one I’m reading? The dude reserved a shop and said, “Take what you want, I’ll foot the bill.” The place? A YARN SHOP! The heroine has an arm-full of yarn skeins and has such a giddy smile. She’s livin’ the dream!

Second bonus? She calls him to confirm things, feeling guilty for taking advantage of his wallet. He’s doing this to apologize for not being more courteous and not having more time together. They talk it out, and she feels better about it all. (And then she shares her bounty with her old-lady crafting friends, omg!)

So anyway, Sleeping on the Job” on Tapas is a really cute comic so far. (This was episodes 8 and 9, btw.)

A while ago I read about autistic people and nesting somewhere & I think we don't talk about that enough. Apparently, a lot of autistic people like nesting. I love nesting. I carefully choose a space to build my nest and I bring all my little trinkets there. I surround myself with everything I love and everything I could possibly need in the next few hours- my water bottle, a snack, my weighted blanket, my soft blanket, hand creme, my headphones, my charger, my favorite stuffed animals- so I don't have to leave the nest to get anything. It makes me feel save and calm and like everything is gonna be ok. This is a nesting appreciation post. Any other autistics who love a good nest?

God i could go for a nest right about now

Ugh, filtering out social contacts sucks. A friend from high school, who I’d been close to during my anxiety stuff, reached out on facebook, and we started talking again. Now that I’m seeing her newsfeed-reposts, it’s a lot of religious-related content. It was fine at first, because that’s her business. Then I saw some stuff that was shady about lgbt+ topics, and it got squicky for me.

I won’t be broken-hearted if we disconnect again. I’m just pausing, formulating how I want to phrase things. “I appreciate that you reached out to me, but I think I’m in a place now where I’d like some distance again. I’m happy to still send messages. Otherwise, I need to keep things close-to-my-chest. It’s my anxiety stuff acting up again, not a reflection on you.”

Which is true. I cut off ALL contact with people after I moved, even the good people. I already relieved my guilt, when I explained that to her. But yeah, having to actively curate my social circle wears on me, emotionally. I am getting better at turning away from people (politely, quickly, without guilt), thankfully.

oh--part of one of my dreams this morning was a TV show about managing your possessions in a Konmari-kind of way

but

the show itself was presented like one of those ghost hunting shows

I later realized the show might very well have been called

Posessions

AHHHHHHHHHH hahahaehe

Are you HAUNTED by YOUR PAST?

CONFRONT your POSESSIONS

MAKE PEACE WITH THEM

ALLOW them to CROSS OVER...out the door

GET the SPIRIT and LOVE YOUR STUFF

This is such a great intersection of my interests (ghosts, organization, dreams, etc)

Hmmm boy, am I feeling drained. Today is rainy and foggy, and I have to attend counseling by myself. It’s always nice when dad drives me, because we can talk along the way. But he’s busy, prepping for some upcoming procedures.

I’ve been sitting on this news, because part of the prep includes covering worst-case scenarios. Like, talking to lawyers kinda stuff.

June 27, 2023 - Finished (tidal) Hespera cowl

Tada, my third Hespera cowl is finished. This one (tidal) and the previous (tealberry) will be for sale at my local craft fair, later this fall. I'd love to make more, likely tinkering with details and different yarns.

For now, I've started on making some small plush toys. Just quick projects, to fill out my craft offerings. A couple hats or scarves might also come along, after I make enough toys.

A couple more pics to finish this post.

(Does this photo/image set up look okay? I'm still not used to taking pictures with this set-up yet. My computer spits out pics that are wider than what tumblr used to post. I need to fiddle with the thing some more.)

This is a lovely example of how you can cover up a hole with embroidery!

One suggestion to make this mend last longer is to fix the hole first, for example by sewing on a small patch on the back or by darning it, and then adding the embroidery on top.

Vintage Patterns are fun, but also kinda weird ( as in unfamiliar). This sock is knitted on three dpn four dpn needles instead of five ( all sts for the instep are on one needle) and the instep is knitted flat and later it will be joined with the heel and sole...i will see how it goes.

But i love the pattern.

Which pattern are you using?

The Pattern is “Kaleidoscope by Patons & Baldwins” it was published in  Beehive Book No. 113, Socks and it is free on Ravelry or better said Ravelry links to Archive.org.

For those who can´t use Ravelry, here is the direct link: https://archive.org/details/Patons_113_Socks_by_Beehive/page/n1/mode/2up

I want to knit nearly every sock from that booklet, but first i need to see how this sock fits my foot.

Short update to the sock.

You knit the instep separate first, then the heel than the gusset. You only join both "flappy things" when you start knitting the toe.

It is honestly the weirdest looking sock, with a lot of loose ends, which need to be woven in, i have ever knit.

I still love it...haha.

Nearly finished the sock. Need to sew the "side seams" and weave in the ends...

I'm thinkingnof filming the making of the second sock, but i never filmed anything. I don't know...

Okay, i finished the first sock and steamed it a little on my sock blocker. It just sits perfectly. And you can't feel the seam at all - stitched them with back stitch as i normally do.

I'm amazed.

Some finds I came across in PA this last weekend

The crucifixion ala seashells

A wooden elephant puppet I wish I had space for

A very unique copy of scarface

One traumatized Peppa Pig

Concernly disproportionate mickey mouse

An Ernest that still haunts my dreams

And a bootleg Pikachu beanie baby I did end up buying.

Holy fuck, I had that Ernest doll as a kid! The neighbor-kid broke the pull string, alas. (Pretty sure my parents were happy about that.)

I love that he has his box, but it looks too scuffed to be worth $80. Knock it down to $60 and we might talk. :3

June 24, 2023 - Hespera without lacework

As mentioned, I realized I did my stitches wrong and had to undo nearly all of the cowl (down the to the garter stitch edge). When I reknit, I skipped the lace section, which also made things go much faster.

Now, I'm further along than I was before the redo. And that's just stitching at home, between library visits. I'd say this is 14 hours worth of work, as a guesstimate.
