Bisexual aro, feminist woman, considered an edgy hufflepuff, born into the wrong world, barely surviving it.

You are not weird because you are aro or ace or both. You are not broken. You are not worthless and you are not unhuman. The lack of sexual or romantic attraction got nothing to do with your worth as a person, and I am so so sorry if anyone has ever made you feel wrong for being the way you are. You are worthy. You are valid. And being true to who you are is a beautiful thing, and you deserve to know that. You deserve people who understands, and I hope you have them in your life, otherwise, I promise they are out there. 🌸

“To be in favor of solitude is not to be against community or friendship or love. It’s not that being alone is better, just that without the experience of it we block ourselves from discovering something enormously beneficial, perhaps even vital, to selfhood. Who are you when you are not a friend, a partner, a lover, a sibling, a parent, a child? When no one is with you, what do you do, and do you do it differently than if someone was there? It’s hard to see someone fully when another person is always attached to them. More importantly, it’s hard for us to see our own selves if we’re not ever alone.”

send me some!

When people get pregnant, they will give up smoking, give up alcohol, give up coffee and soda, give up fondue and raw cheese, give up cold cuts and sushi, all because they have heard somewhere, from someone, that these things can be bad for the baby. They don’t know the research, haven’t looked at the studies, can’t talk about sample sizes and control groups. But their dedication to their future child’s safety is so strong, their caution is so overpowering, that they give up these things just in case

So it baffles me when those same people will insist on spanking their kids.

People are so invested in this ability to hit their kids without judgement or consequence, that it absolutely confounds me.

I’m just going to say this- if you come on this post, which specifically critiques spanking children, ignore all the links which provide evidence for why spanking is bad, and argue that you either DO or WILL spank your own children -

You are either an intentionally bad parent and/or a deeply damaged child.

We can forgive our parents for fucking up in their ignorance and acting out on their own damage. You don’t have to condemn them or hate them for it. They loved us, and they weren’t perfect.

But you are your own person and you have an obligation to be better.

I think most people agree that hitting a baby hard enough to make them cry is not OK. In fact, you could be brought up on abuse charges for it. Non-consensually hitting an adult hard enough to make them cry is illegal as well; it’s assault/battery.

So why do some people believe that there is there some nebulous age in which it’s perfectly OK to hit someone hard enough to make them cry? Someone who is too young and too small to even defend themselves against you? Someone who you are supposed to protect?

“When I was about 20 years old, I met an old pastor’s wife who told me that when she was young and had her first child, she didn’t believe in striking children, although spanking kids with a switch pulled from a tree was standard punishment at the time. But one day when her son was four or five, he did something that she felt warranted a spanking–the first of his life. And she told him that he would have to go outside and find a switch for her to hit him with. The boy was gone a long time. And when he came back in, he was crying. He said to her, “Mama, I couldn’t find a switch, but here’s a rock that you can throw at me.”

All of a sudden the mother understood how the situation felt from the child’s point of view: that if my mother wants to hurt me, then it makes no difference what she does it with; she might as well do it with a stone. And the mother took the boy onto her lap and they both cried. Then she laid the rock on a shelf in the kitchen to remind herself forever: never violence. And that is something I think everyone should keep in mind. Because violence begins in the nursery–one can raise children into violence.“

Anyone got any advice on how to cope with family members like this?

So my mum is quite a negative person, even though she claims she's the opposite. She's more judgemental than Simon cowel on a bad day, she says negative things when girls wear what they want to wear, she fat shames children and adults (not to their faces but still around me) and no matter how many times I explain how negative her views are she still refuses to change.

She's always blaming me for things that go wrong and no matter what I do its never good enough. Like these past few months:

She wanted me to change my phone to the new one she got me and badgered me into it. But when I finally did it she complained that I was on it.

Then she says she wants me to talk to her more but she's always either on her phone or saying negative things that make me feel uncomfortable. And when I explain that she says I'm trying to change her.

And due to covid I had to quit the course I was on and she made me feel like shit every day because I was unemployed. Now I have a job and she won't stop saying that " it's at the wrong time" and "now I can't have a life/I'm busy too".

We were arguing really bad in lockdown to the point where I was planning to move out and now I'm back to that mentality again but I don't have the money. Any time we argue now rather than apologise she acts like nothing has happened. It never resolves anything when I try to take the first step. Any advice?

repeat after me:

  • even if i don’t like my body today i will take care of it
  • even if i don’t like myself today i will still be patient and kind with myself
  • even if i do not love myself i will still take care of and be kind to myself, despite not wanting to

So you don’t have to watch the video every time you need one of these hacks immediately:

1. If you feel nauseated, smell rubbing alcohol.

2. If you feel like throwing up, start humming.

3. If you have a runny nose, put your tongue to the roof of your mouth and press your thumb to your forehead for about 20 seconds.

4. If you have a headache, pinch the webbing between your fingers and rub it back and forth for about 1 minute.

5. If you’re lightheaded from standing up too quickly, clench your butt cheeks.

6. If your arm’s dead/has the pins and needles feeling, rock your head back and forth.

7. If you need to pee badly, think of sex to trick your brain and relieve the pressure.

8. If you have a migraine, stick your hands in ice water.

9. If you wanna calm your racing heart, blow on your thumb.

If you're lightheaded while standing up, opening and closing your fists is also something to do. Also try stretching before getting up!

(These are vasovagal syncope tricks, to get the blood pumping where it should be)

Thanks for adding another hack!

I used the humming one when I randomly started dry heaving today, and that shit worked so fast!👌🏼

A trick I have used often when I stand up too fast/start to see my vision black out is to quickly hold my hands up over my head.  A doctor taught me this, it has always helped!

I don’t want to grow up

I wanna build a fort in the woods and play using sticks as swords

None of my friends wants to play anymore.

not to hijack or anything OP but like I think this is one of the most devastating things about our society

we are taugh that we’re meant to spend our adult lives generating capital and recovering from generating capital and then doing it again

play is one of the most creative things a human can do and we’re not meant to stop playing when we get big, our storylines are just supposed to get in-depth

but capitalism is like “no, freedom to play is for CHILDREN, your purpose is to PRODUCE”

WoW tea

Most adult animals play too. Everyone needs to play to relieve stress and feel better, and society would be much less tiring and depressing if everyone understood this. What is really frustrating is when society will only allow playing (which includes anything creative) as a form of capital-generating work. Do you draw in your free time? Then you gotta master your skills and sell your art, otherwise it’s pointless and childish. Do you play videogames? If you aren’t good enough to be a competitive player and make money out of it then what’s the point? Do you play sports? Better to turn yourself into an actual athlete or you’re just being immature.

This mindset is so freaking toxic. You don’t need a reason or a goal to play or be creative. You need NO REASON besides the fact that it makes you happy.
