hello 911 i just witnessed a murder

alright this has gotten on my last fucking nerve.

I play WoW. so does my nearly fifty year old mother. so does my nearly seventy year old grandmother. and we do so because of a group of blizzard gamers, nearly all of them men.

they invited us to play with them. they shower us with gifts and extra things that don’t matter to them but that they know we like. they drag us through dungeons they’ve done a million times and are far below their level to help us grind for things they’ve had for literally years. they’re all incredibly patient with us, because we’re not as proficient as they are at the game, and are willing to sit down in discord and explain things they already know and are basic knowledge to them. they know my mother is chronically ill and worry over her if she doesn’t show up for a few days. they–part of a guild who are in the top ranks not only of their server but worldwide–would rather cancel a raid then force her to play when she’s not feeling well. due to my mental health issues I haven’t entered the discord server in nearly a year and they still ask about me and have the invite open for whenever I feel up to coming back. they ask to play with us knowing we aren’t on their level and that we prefer a play style they don’t.

my mother has been playing various MMOs literally since before I was born, more than thirty years. before that, she played tabletop games. most of the friends she made and people she played with were men.

I’ve been playing and participating in games for over a decade; I currently play four MMOs consistently. most of the friends I’ve made and people I’ve played with have been men.

my grandmother just started playing video games less than two years ago. she’s slow, she’s not good at it, she gets easily confused. all but two of the people–not including my mother and I–who help her and patiently wait for her to catch up are men.

just because some guy yelled at you for making some dumbfuck mistake in a dungeon one time doesn’t mean male gamers as a whole are toxic or dislike playing with women, and this ongoing effort to silence female or non-white gamers is actually the worst fucking thing I’ve had to endure as a female gamer.

the gaming community as a whole is currently fighting against companies who don’t respect their own consumer base and have been repeatedly attempting to demonize or commit fraud against gamers in the past several years. it’s a group of people passionate about something they love trying to push back against the backlash of idiots bringing back arguments that were torn to shreds in the goddamn nineties because of some dead fucking stereotype and a con artist making shit up to get money from gullible fools.

US agents deploy a restricted chemical weapon on the border. Articles say it was to stop them crossing. Meaning it was on the other side of the border.
