Hellscarred 4

Previous - First - Next

Page 4 of the commissioned sketched lineart comic, Hellscarred.

After the fight ended quickly, both Loona and Octavia discover they possess the winning tickets which grants them access to see the champion, Havok the Hellscarred, in person. However, upon arriving at his quarters, they discover it is but a prison cell where imps torture him nonstop and without mercy. Angered by such cruel treatment which Loona somewhat experienced long ago, she attacked the imp servant while Octavia used her father's grimoire to open the cell and knock the imp handlers out. Yet, Octavia discovers that the collar around Havok's neck is the source of the problem--The reason why his abilities are restricted and why he cannot just escape. Luckily, Octavia's skill in magic at this time is strong enough to break this powerful collar, allowing Havok to break free of his chains. However, the scarred hellhound immediately grabs Loona and spews words at her that leaves her frightened and confused. But the moment is cut short when reinforcements arrive, forcing Havok to turn on them and tap into the source of his power: A unique, synthetic form of Hellfire that will burn and destroy all in his path.

Commission and Havok belong to:

Loona, Octavia, and Helluva Boss belong to Vivziepop

I think one of the things with the repeated conspiracy-like accusations about Vivziepop, Hazbin Hotel, and Helluva Boss is that they do prey on genuine fan concerns.

like the most recent allegations are clearly preying on the fact that Hazbin Hotel has been apparently delayed, the official promotions on social media have tailed off, and that other shows with release windows much later than 'Summer 2023' have gotten release dates and teaser trailers and we know where they'll be airing.

So it's easy to twist the same-old "Viv's a toxic problematic person" routine to fit fan anxieties, and make up some shit about A24 'canning Hazbin' even though it's so easily debunked by people actually in the know like Sam Haft (the songwriter on the actual show).

It's the same thing whenever Spindlehorse puts out a call for new animators and the "Viv's desperate because animators are leaving her abusive work environment" accusation gets trotted out again. However in that case, new Helluva Boss episodes do keep on coming; we have the teaser gifs to assure us of that. With Hazbin, the lack of official information about what's happening with the show creates a breeding ground for speculation and worry and conspiracy.

While I understand the nature of NDAs, I understand that A24 cannot produce or stream shows while the SAG and writer's strikes are ongoing, and I definitely understand and appreciate Viv's solidarity with the strikes... I think there is a good amount of onus on A24, or whichever streaming service will be hosting Hazbin Hotel, for not at least announcing the delay and giving a definite, official confirmation on what's going on.

If there is one thing I will criticize Viv for, it's that her more-informal use of Twitter means that when she does tweet serious announcements about her they might tend to get lost or overlooked.

Yeah, I found it very apparent with these recent allegations that bad-faith pot-stirrers are deliberately preying on fans’ worries in order to sow discord and panic. I’ve seen some apparently well-intentioned fans fall for the conspiracies.

Viv did warn at the beginning of the strike that HB AND HH were very likely to be affected in some way by the ongoing conflict but, while I don’t blame her, the lack of clear communication with audiences about HH’s release did contribute to this atmosphere of uncertainty and speculation that people with a bone to pick would take advantage of.

The curse of modern fandom is that it has allowed fans to get even closer to artists, but they won't view the artists as people.

Human limits, human mistakes, human feelings, human needs, are never ascribed to artists, and when other fans rightfully point out, "hey, humans are making this, maybe don't harass them or demand they cater to your personal tastes," it gets shut down under, "uh, people who make popular mainstream things are automatically Public Figures who are also probably rich, so eat the rich and destroy artists over every perceived minor fault. <3"

Even though there's, y'know, a really big strike currently going on because those artists are very much not rich or influential or in control of the bullshit.

The more friends I make in the various facets of the entertainment industry, and the more widely my own art gets shared, the more I realize that a lot of y'all genuinely don't see artists as human beings if they meet some arbitrary standard of Being Known Online.

There is no amount of online fame that makes someone subhuman and a valid target for blatant disrespect and harassment.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not actually own and control a piece of art just because you like it a lot. The artists are not subject to your personal whims and tastes. They owe you nothing.

The Barbie movie really said. Yes you will grow up and childhood wonder will vanish. Yes you will grow up and learn to hate yourself, your body, your awkwardness. Yes you will grow up and lose your confidence and certainty and sense of purpose. Yes you will grow up and the world will seem a bleaker, lonelier place every day, and society will seem bleaker and lonelier every day, and you won’t understand what went wrong in the span of just a few years, what took you from a happy and secure young girl to a sad, uncertain, scared grown woman.

And yet. You will learn to find beauty again. You will find joy in not having a purpose, in building a purpose for yourself. You will find beauty in connection, with the people and the world around you. You will learn to love signs of ageing as proof of a life well lived, of experience and happiness. You will take that little girl by the hand and tell her “I know, this isn’t what you thought it would be, but it’s real. Let me show you how beautiful it can be.”
