That is the exact spot my parents found a stray kitten. Nice little addition to the family, but would have been a terrible addition to the pavement had she not been very vocal OTL

No joke, the place where that cat is resting in this picture is called a “dead cat hole” it’s an automotive term.  Don’t believe me, look it up.

This is also where I found a stray cat, she was up in there during a thunderstorm and I begged my dad to let me being her inside and that’s the story of how I got my first cat.

Please don’t skip over this without reading it and making a mental note. Even if you don’t have a car, tell your parents or whoever, and make sure to do this. You think that’ll never happen but that’s what everyone thought who had this happen and didn’t check, and that poor cold cat met with a terribly sad end.

Small kittens and other creatures can also sometimes crawl up into the engine compartment. Give your hood a few bangs with your fist before getting in and if you hear noises in response but nothing comes out DO NOT START YOUR CAR. Pop the hood and check for any trapped animals, and then call animal care and control if you find one so they can safely free it and check it for injuries. Do NOT attempt to free the animal yourself unless it appears to be in an immediately life-threatening situation (e.g. being strangled by a belt) as you’re likely to put both yourself and the animal in even more danger.

As always when injured by a strange animal, if you free the animal yourself but are harmed by it in the process SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION ASAP. Even if it’s just a small cut or bite mark. You have no idea what kinds of diseases a random animal could be carrying and you should never wait out a possible infection.

Please keep yourself and any stray creatures you encounter safe this winter!
