He gave us the romance of the ages.

The Doctor ran down the slippery stairway. He had to find out where everyone went. This planet should be teeming with life, not empty and silent. The clouds hung ominously overhead threatening to drench him with rain. Logic told him he should head back to the TARDIS and wait for the storm to pass, but he kept running frantically trying to find an answer.

He got it. He reached the top of the building and a familiar, emotionless, mechanical voice came from behind him. “STOP!” The voice shrieked, “DO NOT GO ANY FARTHER!” He skidded to a stop and his hearts froze. A hatred filled him. A hatred so passionate it filled him every time he heard the voices of those disgusting things.

“I should have known,” The Doctor said through gritted teeth, “That this was work of the Daleks.” He pulled out his Sonic Screwdriver from his coat. He had no idea what’d he’d do with it but he would find some way to destroy his timeless enemy.

“I. Am. The. Only. One.” The Dalek announced.

The Doctor pointed his Sonic at the Dalek. Who made no attempt to exterminate him. It just sat there for a moment. The Doctor wasn’t sure what the creature was planning or why it didn’t kill him like it was meant to.

“Do. You not. Remember. Me?” The Dalek said, and unnatural hint of sadness in its voice, “I remember. You. Doctor. But. You have. Changed again.”

The Doctor stared at the Dalek. Could it be? He lowered his screwdriver and shame filled him. It was, the only Dalek he could ever trust. The only one he ever loved, “Yes, I remember you. I remember.” His voice cracked. It was like an old wound had reopened in him. One he tried so hard to ignore. The rain started to fall. The Doctor’s clothes began to stick to him, and a fine film of water rolled off of the Daleks shell.

He met the Dalek during his Eighth regeneration. A life very loving and very compassionate to all things. This Dalek became more than his friend. It became a companion and love. It seemed like their happiness would never end…but then the Time War broke out. Two lovers at both ends of the warring factions. It was like Romeo and Juilet almost, but sadly there was no happy ending. The two Shakespearian lovers were separated forever with no hope of reuniting. They both thought one another was dead like the rest.

The Doctor and the Dalek approached one another. They looked into each other’s eyes through the rain. The Doctor put his arms around the Dalek. Who rested its eye-stalk on his shoulder.

“I missed you.” The Doctor murmured.

“And. I you. Doctor.” The Dalek replied.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry so I’ll just settle for high-fiving the author.
