peace to nothing

I remember when I was young, I used to love reading from a book of Aesop's fables. One of the ones that stuck with me most was regarding a farmer and his seven sons.

I'm sure you could find it if you looked, but the gist is that the farmer's sons were always fighting with each other and their father wanted to see them stand together. He brought in a tightly-bound bundle of sticks and asked each of his children to try breaking the bundle. None of them could do it, and after they were done trying the farmer untied the bundle and gave them each one stick with the same challenge. Each of the sons were able to break their singular stick easily. The farmer told his sons that, like the sticks, if they stand united nothing can break them; but if they stand alone, they can be easily defeated.

Community is the foundation upon which human survival depends, my friends.

We get knocked down to our lowest points and find others there to help us back to our feet, and when the time comes, we pay that kindness forward.

Humanity as a whole is strong because humans - regardless of our power or influence as individuals - work together and support each other.

The past few years have been rough, and we've witnessed and experienced so much drama and vitriol that's been meant to divide and break us. The resilience of the collective human spirit and the hope we've all held onto that we can make it through this has been vital in such trying times.

It can be easy to lose that hope after a while - we need to be reminded that the world we live in isn't all bad and that there are still people fighting for all of us, for the greater good of humanity.

This art blog is meant to be one of those reminders.

Artists of tumblr, we want to see your interpretations and renditions of community, hope, resilience, strength, courage, kindness, and support. Through the latest pandemic, the tumultous political climates, decades of standing up for human rights - no matter your setting or art style, show us what people helping people means to you. Remind us of what humanity is all about.
