I don’t know if anyone has noticed but I tend to switch between Yami and Atem a lot. This is mostly because while I think of them as the same character I know a lot of the fandom splits him in the middle like , “That’s Yami wait he has his memory so it’s Atem now,” kinda thing.

I’m not a big fan of that ? I just feel like really devalues his character arc.

Atem’s storyline is one of my favorites because in the beginning he is one step away from being full on evil. Early manga Atem is a spirit of anger and pettiness, fully willing to kill over the smallest of injustices to those he calls friends. It’s been pointed out that early manga Atem is worse then Bakura at points and it’s true.

And it’s only because he made friends that he stopped playing dark games/ killing people. His friendships were the thing that made him become his self again, not his memory. By the time he got his memory back the only thing left to learn about his self was his name.

I just like ’ a teenager king tried he’s hardiest to save his country and friends by sacrificing his own soul only to be corrupted/driven insane over the next 3000 years from being in an item made from people so when he awakens he is only a dark almost evil shadow of his real self when but slowly puts his self back together from the ashes with the support of his friends ’ more then ‘oh it was a completely different character who did that’
