i have a little collection of websites i tend to use for coming up with ideas, naming people or places, keeping clear visuals or logistics, writing basics about places i've never been to, and so on. i tend to do a lot of research, but sometimes you just need quick references, right? so i thought i'd share some of them!

STOP GIVING THEM MONEY! stop trying to make crab day or whatever else happen. paying for stuff from the shop is rewarding them for ignoring the userbase continuously and doing things the majority don't want, even if the things they're doing and allowing can cause actual deaths. staff shouldn't be praised and get profit for ignoring their users in exchange for trying to turn tumblr into twitter 2 ft. tiktok. at this point i don't even care for "staff are people 🥺 be nice" arguments, because even when people are being very polite in feedback, they're perfectly fine ignoring it in exchange for implementing changes nobody wants or asked for, all because new users may like it more (and forget anyone who's used the site for years, apparently).

leave bad reviews. don't buy things from the shop. send feedback, even if they never reply. email them and @ the staff, send asks to the wip blog. don't just blindly buy into "we need to support the site, buy xyz shop product", they don't deserve more money for giving a worse product.

slur reclamation is all about personal choice and comfort. if you're using a "reclaimed" slur on someone against their expressed wishes, that's not reclamation, you're just calling them a slur. so, good job, i guess

Because I'm only seeing other Jews posting about this, non-Jews I need you to be aware that for the past month or two there has been a wave of bomb threats and swattings at synagogues all across the US. They usually do it when services are being livestreamed. I haven't seen a single non-Jew talking about this. High holidays are coming up in a few weeks, which is when most attacks happen against our communities. We're worried, and we need people to know what's happening to us.

Jesus fucking Christ dude. A house show in Minneapolis got shot up. Two guys walked up, unloaded into the crowd, and ran off. One dead and six injured.

Yeah. Okay. News stories were kinda making it sound like it was more Senseless Minneapolis Urban Violence, but folks that were there are saying this seems like a targeted attack on the venue and the scene for being trans positive. My fucking hometown scene got hit by a fucking terror attack.

Give em money. Everyone involved really needs it.

Richard Siken continues to kill it on twitter. He just explained why his poetry is so popular in tumblr graphics - "you can take any of my quotes and apply them to any fandom or picture and they will work because they are sad and mopey and full of longing" and then proceeded to demonstrate this. With cat pictures. With lines of his poetry slightly altered to be lol cat speak.

Not to be a doomer, it's fun clowning on Trump.........but also you really should be more worried about Ron DeSantis. It's unlikely Trump will be re-elected with his being arrested business and more and more Republicans basing their identity around "never Trump". But Ron DeSantis is a real danger. Unlike Trump, he's entering the race with previous political experience. He knows how to and has passed horrifically transphobic, homophobic, racist, and misogynist bills in Florida. His political experience is also more likely to convince "centrists" to support him, because "oh well at least he knows politics he's sensible, unlike Trump who is just a celebrity". Nobody took Trump seriously at first when he first announced his bid five years ago, "oh he's too extreme no one will vote for him," everyone said, and lo and behold, he won the presidency. Now Trump is old news. But you have to take Ron DeSantis seriously, because he has more of a chance of winning and more of a chance of causing the most harm.

If you've ever wondered why people in Hawai'i hate tourists, try to wrap your mind around the fact that there are CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, tourists sipping martinis and looking at fish within swimming range of the fresh corpses of local people who couldn't escape the overnight destruction of their entire town.

Try to comprehend that there are fully functional, high capacity boats passing through the waters in front of an area full of survivors who are stranded and in need of supplies, refusing to help. They are hosting snorkeling tours.

Really think about, try your best to actually picture over two thousand people unhoused and in need of shelter, with nothing but the clothes on their backs and nothing to return to. Understand that the island, stolen land, is littered with hotels full of air conditioned of rooms with beds and showers and toilets, each fully equipped to host hundreds of families for weeks, turning these people away because they're booked up with tourists who refuse to leave.

And understand that these tourists were offered free transport to return home or be hosted on other islands. Free. Courtesy of local tax dollars. 4,000 wealthy tourists were offered free flights shelter on Oahu and begged to leave the island, BEFORE the survivors were given shelter.

And enough still insisted on remaining and carrying out their vacations that people are left without shelter and resources while they enjoy "their stay in paradise".

In case this gains any traction, I NEED people to understand that this is not an invitation for mainlanders to get on a soapbox and start telling each other whether or not or how to visit Hawai'i. The tourism situation is complex and difficult and you don't get it if you haven't lived through it at minimum wage. You don't fully understand the complexities and you will not. And you are liable to do more harm by trying to dictate rules and ethics of visiting the islands to each other.

If you want to help, listen to local people. Seek out and boost what they're saying. Send each other local sources of information. Research from local sources. DO NOT take this crisis as an opportunity to insert your views and speak for us.

Over twenty years ago my big brother got me a job at a Taco Bell in the St. Louis suburbs-West County. He warned me that it was the “gay Taco Bell”, but since I was coming from the “gay Howard Johnson’s” I wasn’t shocked. It turns out it was the black trans women Taco Bell complete with black trans women in management. And they’d worked out an arrangement with the local teen Narcotics Anonymous group so that twice a week we would shut down the drive thru and the dining room and exclusively serve 60+ teens in various stages of recovery. And many of the women I worked with were in various stages of being out or transitioning and they were from all generations from teens to over 50. One woman I worked with had a regular corporate job presenting as a man 9-5 Mon-Fri and then came to Taco Bell and worked 6pm -2am Friday and Saturday night so she could be herself surrounded by other black transwomen in those stolen weekends. And we had customers come from all over the metro area because they knew they could be themselves in the dining room. I only worked there from 1999-2001 but for young me, this was a vital, formative experience. Some of the girls came from north city all the way out to the “gay Taco Bell” on Manchester in west county because they heard it was safe to work there. Like- I know times have changed but they haven’t changed much in 20 years. I’m still convinced that for lgbt youth, finding a job at your city’s version of the “gay Taco Bell” is key to survival.

there isn't such thing as a good cop. a "good" cop still upholds the system and laws that designed to hurt and oppress. listen there's sooo many resources on this, if you put in your own research you will find an answer to any question you have about this. and I've also talked about acab and why police are inherently bad on this blog a lot

this sound like a good cop? someone you want to have an insane amount of power? "cops are meant to help people" tom literally was the most helpful person in the town, but he still want to leave and go to the city BECAUSE he said he doesnt feel like a real cop. kinda sound like he doesn't actually care about helping those around him, but instead feeling important. also his trigger control is non existent. also he made fun of and dismissed crazy carl because "he's crazy" - a cop acting like that towards someone who is (percieved to be) having mental health problems?? also if tom was a "good cop" and followed laws the movie would end pretty much immediately, since robotnik worked for the goverment and told tom to hand over sonic. funny how for tom to be the hero and good guy he had to break the laws that he swore and oath to uphold

Idk when I was younger, you could just go and go and find exciting new websites full of whatever cool things you wanted to explore. An overabundance of ways to occupy your time online.

Now, it's just... Social media. That's it. Social media and news sites. And I'm tired of social media and I'm tired of the news.

Am I just like completely inept at finding new things or has the internet just fallen apart that much with the problems of SEO and web 3.0 turning everything into a same-site prison?
