Not even summer yet and already almost as much of my home state has gone up in smoke than the last three fire seasons combined. Our national gov’t is still trying to deny this unprecedented fire season has any link to climate change. It continues to increase coal exports and the country’s greenhouse gas emissions are rising. My state’s government is similarly denying climate change links, today debated in favour of legislation to make it easier for coal to be mined in NSW and has also reduced funding to fire services. Over 150 homes have been lost and three people have died. There is still all of summer to get thru, and as the world continues to warm this kind of exteme weather, in Aus and elsewhere, can only get worse. The self-interest and shortsightedness of state and federal LNP is… I can’t find a better word than “fucked”. It’s fucked. Their houses should burn and they should go get fucked.

I’ve never seen a meme with such a clear expiration date as “let’s raid Area 51 on September 20th” because some loon is gonna do it and they’re either gonna get shot or disappeared and ain’t nobody gonna be joking about it any more

us on september 20th when someone photographs and liveblogs their journey into area 51 and they suddenly stop posting

Who is Malak al-Kashef?

Malak al-Kashef is a 19-year-old activist, human rights defender, and transgender woman located in Egypt. She supported a protest against the government.

She is currently being held in an all-male prison, at risk of torture, and facing potentially, the death penalty

She was kidnapped from her home by police.

She faces the potential (fake) charges of “aiding a terrorist organization” and “misusing social media to commit a crime punishable by law.” She has already been subjected to:

  1. Solitary Confinement
  2. Misgendering
  3. Sexual assault under the guise of medical examination

And potentially many other things we are unaware of. She has already been tortured. If released into the general population, she could be murdered by prisoners.

This is now her 127th day in prison (as of July 11th, 2019), and we need to do something.

Here are some ways to help:

- Signal boost.

- Get her name into the media. You think it might sound ridiculous, but the Egyptian government has shown time and time again to respond to negative press attention. Tweeting, blogging, and getting creators to make videos about the subject are not wastes of time.

- Send a fax to the Public Prosecutor, Nabil Sadek. Amnesty International recommends that you use their letter or a version similar to it. Please do edit their letter, as it has now been more than 3 times that her detention has been extended.

- Sending faxes for free internationally is very difficult to find, but you can find low-cost services like GotFreeFax ($0.70). For more options, check out this list. You can also fax (for a cost) at places like OfficeMax, OfficeDepot, and your local library.

Where can you learn more?

Middle East Eye - They do graphically describe the assault/torture in this article.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO HELP HER.

terrifying your own child into submission makes you an abuser.

watching your child cry and screaming at them to stop and invalidating their pain and reasons for crying makes you an abuser.

staring at your child in disgust and contempt after they displease you makes you an abuser.

threatening to your child to take away their basic resources if they don’t give you exactly what you want makes you an abuser.

forcing your child to feel ashamed for not living up to your ideals makes you an abuser.

using slurs, hateful names and insults on your own child without any regard to what it does to their mental health makes you an abuser.

forcing your child to chase impossible expectations and making them feel like they’re worthless for not achieving them makes you an abuser.

acting like your child is a burden and a waste of space and blaming their illness/disability/depression on it makes you an abuser.

behaving like your child will never amount to anything and isn’t worth any resources and nurturing makes you an abuser.

making your child feel like they’re never good enough makes you an abuser.

if your child’s heart is hurting because they know no matter what they do and how hard they try they will always be a failure in your eyes, you are an abuser.

if your child can’t look at themselves without self hatred because they had to look at themselves from your perspective and all they saw is disgust and hatred, you’re an abuser.

If your child is struggling to believe they have the right to live and to be cared and loved, if they can’t stop hearing your hateful voice putting them down and using their every action to prove they’re worthless, you’re an abuser.

If you watched your child in pain and assured them they deserved it, you’re an abuser.

If your child can’t love themselves from how badly you hated them, you’re an abuser.

Hey- I can’t read half the essays I repost here. I assume they align with my beliefs but if I start sharing weird things please understand it’s cause the aro community can’t format for shit.

Ive shared a few posts about dyslexia/adhd and the massive walls of text this community posts. My drafts are full of these essays I can’t read. I mostly get the point but sometimes it’s really annoying.

Please make your next war and peace sized novel on amatanormativity more accessible. Thank you

There’s times where I just like stuff to read in snippets lmao

Yeah this is a mood, sometimes I’ll just kinda skim read something and tag it with what I think it’s generally about, and comment in the tags that I didn’t actually read it…sometimes I write long-ish things, but I always try and make it readable by using a lot of paragraph breaks and bold/underlining stuff for sections.

But yeah like….more paragraph breaks is such a simple thing to make stuff 10x more readable and I think more people should acknowledge that. And in general, it’s important to recognize accessibility issues like that.
