New Design! ✨🌊 Amphidrome 🌊✨ 💖 This calm & easy-to-work project is the antidote to the chaos of everyday life. A warm scarf, a pretty wrap & a light blanket all in one! 🌟 The pattern has a video tutorial to get you started & the instructions are both charted and written out. 🧶 Knit in beautiful BFL silk yarn from @thewoolkitchen in the aptly-named Twilight colour way. These pics do not do it justice! Check out TheWoolKitchen.com 👀 for yarn kits 🎁 As ever- subscribers to the EastLondonKnit newsletter get an exclusive discount! 🧐 From the Greek amphi ‘around’ & dromos ‘running’ describing the still central point of a wave system around which the tides rotate. 💻 Pattern available on @hi.ravelry and @lovecraftsknitting Links in profile! 🤓 tech edited by star editor @findmeknitting 😘 #EastLondonKnit #TheWoolKitchen #AmphidromeShawl https://www.instagram.com/p/CMry7RkJr_W/?igshid=1phmyxtvhqpcl

Hey there knit folk, I have a new pattern out today! Amphidrome is a large rectangular shawl knit from the centre out, with an easy-to-memorise lace pattern. It is A Very Useful Knit; a warm scarf to wear over all the knitwear, a pretty wrap to go out with in the spring time, a light blanket when you are travelling. It is meditative, pleasing-to-work knit, and a great excuse to get some beautiful DK yarn from The Wool Kitchen. I used the colour way Twilight, which is so very gorgeous! Hey hey everybody! How's it going?! I haven't really known what to post lately, so posting nothing seemed appropriate. Between our latest lockdown, recovering (slowly but surely) from an unexpectedly severe surgery, and the horrors of the political systems in my homelands, this year has been quite the kick in the teeth. How has everyone been keeping sane? No, really, what have you been doing to be able to stand it? Normally knitting would be my refuge in stressful times, but this year I have struggled to knit. A combo of lacking motivation & then after surgery, I couldn't see or concentrate very well, means I have barely knit a stitch until recently. I found other ways to entertain myself, such as drawing pictures (I recently started posting my sketchbook pics on @alovelettertoa ). And just in the last couple of weeks, I have felt the urge & the ability to knit again. It is such a relief. It doesn't take away from the sick feeling I get when I hear the orange conman's name, but there is some soothing to be found in the stitches once again. I hope you are well, & I am sending my love out to everyone holding their breath right now. It’s looking hopeful... [photo description: Renée looks at the camera smiling with her hand on her head. Happy #fairislefriday 💗 As we are headed for a little heatwave here in the UK, this is not the most seasonal post, but plan now! Autumn is just around the corner.... I have a new fair isle project coming soon too! Small, but perfectly formed and a fantastic project for small amounts of gorgeous yarn and practicing your stranded colour work technique. I really did appreciate the jokes everyone posted in the comments a few days ago. We should do it again sometime: Do save them up for us! I think my favourite was curtesy of @vinca56: The past, present and future walk into a bar. . . . It was tense. 🌟🌟 . . . #briocheknitting #eastlondonknit #samawrap https://www.instagram.com/p/CC7906zJbeY/?igshid=1mmcbaqwh8xpm

A lovely Sama from @KettleYarnCo 😍 I forgot to mention that I put out a podcast Friday with a bit of handmade wardrobe chat curtesy of Linda. And just like that, the weekend flew by... 🌬️ I had a lovely weekend, and am feeling a little sad it is over. And thank you so much to everyone who wished us a happy anniversary! 17 years (22 if you could the years of living in sin!) sounds like a long time, but, like the weekend, they have flown by. I must be feeling nostalgic and emotional, because every little lovely thing brings a tiny tear to my eye. Or maybe these strange days make the nostalgia more potent. Who knows, but I am wishing you a lovely week. ✨✨ I am wearing the Miala sweater in this photo, on a windswept day at the beginning of the year. 💙 #eastlondonknit #mialasweater https://www.instagram.com/p/CClb8kTpdNA/?igshid=15st3hlsfy91h

I was going to post this pic on the 4th of July, because the shawl looks like a flag to me for some reason. The fact that it is not quite red, white and blue seemed apt, because, in truth, I am not quite patriotic. Although I was born in the United States, I don't really think of that as an accomplishment, and therefore something to be proud of. Like many immigrants, I had no particular sense of myself as American until I moved away, when it suddenly became (sometimes painfully) evident to me. That seems like a long time ago now. I think I have, since then, comfortably settled into my foreigner status. I know not everyone has that privilege, and I am grateful for it. As it turned out, I was quite busy on Saturday, and didn't get around to posting, but here it is today. I hope you don't mind. The shawl is #angularmomentumwrap #eastlondonknit https://www.instagram.com/p/CCTJi4qpR7P/?igshid=9szlpj7p47fz
