hi im new and want to learn about radical feminism :) i also really like cats, history, art and philosophy
i need y'all to steal and repost my anti-lawn memes to as many pinterest boards and facebook pages as possible
if i was a feminist on tumblr in the early 2010s and witnessed the transition from the whole of tumblr hating gender, being ok with the man hating, being all ‘pizza rolls not gender roles”, centering bio women in their feminism & hating femininity & masculinity, to inventing 468547 more genders, claiming that gender is empowering, the patriarchy “hurts” men too, that femininity, plastic surgery & makeup is empowering to women & that feminism should include males, i think i would’ve killed everyone then myself
one of my favourite fun facts is the knowledge that in medieval islamic arabia, lesbianism was thought to be an illness which can only be treated with a regular prescription of rubbing one's vulva against another woman's. they really said "you're sick with lesbianism, please have lesbian sex to treat it. and if your lesbianism is acting up again, have more lesbian sex"
Maybe i'm being overly literal but i never saw "sisterhood" in the feminist sense as a behavior or choice based system. I always thought it meant that just like real life sisters, we're connected by chance, that we wouldn't necessarily bother with each otherwise (if one or both of us were men, for example). In this way, sisterhood works as a mental shortcut to class consciousness. The awareness that we all have something in common outside of our control.
I'll never wear makeup again. not to any fancy event not even to a wedding nothing. this is what I look like. don't invite me if you don't want to see my face
it’s unbelievable how nobody questions the notion that a woman's natural face is unceremonious and incompatible with a formal event
I think one of my first, idk, peak thoughts was that "femininity" is strictly a performance while "masculinity" is simply the absence of performing. It is masculine to keep hair where it naturally grows on the human body. It is masculine to not partake in makeup or uncomfortable fashion. It is masculine to age, while it is feminine to stay forever young. It is masculine to be a person, while it is feminine to be an object, a very unrealistic and unattainable object at that.
I became 'GNC' when I realized I had the choice to just... not do all of this extra shit imposed on me, and I could exist happily and comfortably without it.
That's why I reject the ideas and labels of masculinity, feminity, and gender nonconformity. I exist in my body and I will live in it until I die. I will exist as female without adhering to sterotypes, masculine or feminine. I am female, and I need no other words attached to be a human person.
i want art to feel EARNEST. this disgusting, near pornographic level of tongue in cheek meta humor is making me sick to my stomach. i don’t know how many more movies i can take about clever subversions and the movie winking at you to say “we know it’s a little silly, but…” where is the whimsy? why can’t we believe in the pretend you’ve created? why don’t you have enough faith in it? in my ability to believe?
Being female 👏 isn't 👏 a 👏 performance 👏
A reminder of some things you do NOT have to do in order to be female:
- Wear makeup
- Wear perfume
- Wear heels
- Wear dresses
- Shave legs
- Shave armpits
- Remove any/all body hair
- Keep your nails long
- Speak softly
- Smile when told to
- Pretend to know less than you do
- Date/marry males
- Have children
Warning, not doing these things will call into question your femaleness to most people. This just makes it all the more important to make sure they see you. You can help change the expectations/requirements for the next generation(s) of women.
feminist analysis of clothing is only valid when talking about women being given small pockets, i guess. the moment you bring up that clothing makers purposely create sexualized clothing for girls, youre victim blaming now.
& the reason we get the small pockets in the first place is that appearance is prioritised. Large, bulky pockets "spoil" the look of thin tight clothing that hugs the body
“queerness” is a performance, not a lived reality
if biphobic homosexuals dedicated half as much energy toward supporting other women as they do toward obsessively hating bi women for like…existing, we would have peace on earth
i’m a bi woman, and i’m critiquing the homophobic language and ideology used by a fellow bi woman
hope this helps
chronically online and chronically on tumblr are two different things btw
Before the internet, librarians were the gatekeeper of knowledge. For your reading pleasure, the New York Public Library released a cache of queries and conundrums called in from the 1940s to the 1980s.
why isn’t anyone allowed to be wrong anymore? it’s okay to be wrong. being wrong, and realizing you were wrong, is how you learn and grow.
