I get what internet (often borderline or overt rad)feminists are trying to say with shit about how men never have to deal with x, but sooo many of the examples get shot to shit when you apply any other Man to the example than a cishet rich thin white guy.

“When have men ever had to worry about being killed for something they wore?” Black men. Gay men. Trans men.

“When have men ever been body shamed?” Fat men, balding men, disabled men.

“When have men ever had to worry about walking home at night?” Black men, gay men.

People reinvent “if men could get pregnant” over and over and when someone says “oh they do actually” it’s always viewed as hostile and not a potential intersection.

Like no, you do not have to coddle men, but men saying “hey I do know what it’s like actually” are not outright our enemy trying to center themselves, they are often extending a hand saying “hey I do get it too.”

the worse climate disaster gets, the more you’ll see closet eugenicists start to advocate for letting people die. you need to be prepared to combat the ideology wherever you see it, because it’s only going to get worse and worse Read everything having to do with climate disaster critically. If the central argument underlying what’s being said is that the death of disabled and/or racialized people is inevitable, natural, or desirable– that’s a fascist.

they might be appear to be a garden variety republican or liberal or even a leftist at first, but know that if that argument is being made, their underlying ideology is one of supremacism, and given additional climate stress, they will become more blatant about it.

I wrote this post before the global pandemic, and it’s depressing how correct I was.

If the central argument underlying what’s being said is that the death of disabled and/or racialized people is inevitable, natural, or desirable – that’s a fascist.

It’s not even an underlying argument, it’s so openly expressed as part of mainstream opinion. the eugenicist ideology has accelerated so rapidly in the last four years, even in leftist spaces. It’s extremely disturbing.

Know your history:

Gay:

  • Used to mean carefree
  • Then sexually deviant
  • Then prostitute
  • Then slut
  • Then sodomite
  • And THEN as we know it today but only as a slur
  • Reclaimed in the seventies

LGBT:

  • Invented in the nineties
  • Has faced constant backlash (from both straight, queer, and LGBT folks from being not inclusive enough or too inclusive)
  • Every year there are pushes to change to acronym
  • LGBTQ
  • LGBTQ+
  • LGBTQ*
  • LGBTQIA
  • Mogai
  • Alphabet soup

Queer:

  • Used to mean “other”
  • Became a slang term for “not straight” in the 1400s
  • Became a slur in the early 1900s
  • Reclaimed in the 80s.
  • Sudden push back from within the queer community to have it seen only as a slur in the 2010s, a push that can be traced back to terf ideology.
  • Is the only term that includes all non cishet people

Homosexual

  • A medical diagnosis
  • Used for decades to make queerness into a mental illness
  • Used as a slur for the latter half of the 20th century
  • Rejected by the queer community as an acceptable term for a brief period of time in the early 2000s before coming back into fashion.
  • Only describes the experience of cis gay men and cis lesbians

Think what you want, believe what you will, but every word we have ever used to describe ourselves is coated in blood.

Op ur so brave to assume people on this site can read well enough to get this

I actually talked to an older queer guy who said he was amazed to see how many young people call themselves gay. When he hears it, he just hears a slur…but he also said he was glad that people are able to reclaim it, and he’s happy to see a generation of lgbt+ people comfortable with it.

People on this site could learn from him

With some people it’s like yeah you don’t use gay as an insult anymore but do you still argue with someone when they say they look gay in an outfit

Recently my dad was giving away some flannels, and he offered to let me look through them and take what I wanted. I said “thank you for donating to the Jane dressing like a lesbian foundation” and he said why would you say that? You don’t look like that

also a few weeks ago I visited my aunt and (clearly elated) told her that the barista in the coffee shop had called my outfit soft butch and I was over the moon about it. She said “oh what a rude thing to say, it’s not like that at all.”

Girl I WANT to look gay. I want to look butch!! I am BEAMING telling you about this! Read the room!

The same goes for the word fat by the way. It is not enough to just not call somebody fat if you have a problem with someone else calling themselves fat you are an asshole.

Y’all should reblog this post with the last part attached. It was not an afterthought, it was made within seconds of the other post. Fat is also not a dirty word.
