Ducksalot1 Was Here

@ducksy1

So, my bed frame squeaks. Usually, this isn’t a problem. It’s not too hard to rustle about amidst a storm of sound to settle in a position that leaves me fairly free of squeak. Usually.

Then there are the nights where my bed frame is suddenly so sensitive to movement that it squeaks in rhythm to my breathing, or even worse, to my heartbeat.

What do you even do about that!? Am I to just will my body into ceasing automatic functions? That doesn’t seem a terribly practical thing to attempt.

Just in case

I’m actually going to reblog a thing just because this is really important.

As someone who has epilepsy and used to have several grand mal seizures a day, I’d also like to add that “offer help” can range anywhere from keeping the person calm to explaining to them where they are and what they were doing to even just telling them they should sit and rest for a while longer (lack or coordination is common, and it can be hard to walk straight or see clearly).

It’s okay for them to take up to a half hour to fully regain their bearings and sort out what they were doing prior to the seizure. Just answer any questions calmly and be there for support.

If they come around and you start to panic or shake them or ask them what the heck is wrong with them they are going to freak out and panic too.

I cannot stress it enough that this is bad.

If someone has a seizure and they come out of it, please. please stay calm. They are likely disoriented and confused, even if it’s only for a minute or two, and you don’t want them panicking on top of that because they can have another seizure as a result.

IMPORTANT

IMPORTANT because last year a kid in my class had a seizure, none of us even knew he was at risk for them either so just cause you don’t think you know anyone doesn’t mean you don’t

stay safe

I have to stress how important it is to time a seizure. If it lasts more than a few minutes, call an ambulance.

DO NOT CALL THE POLICE. I’m dead fucking serious. I had a grand mal in public once and the POLICE were called and imagine coming out of the seizure, feeling like you got smacked in the head with a sack full of bricks, confused, dazed, in desperate need of some sugar to boost low blood pressure and some DIPSHIT has called the police and I was being threatened with being ‘drunk and disorderly’. It took a phone call to my doctors office to get them to back off. The police cannot properly deal with sick people

Offer help can be:

  • assuring person where they are/what time it is
  • getting them something to drink if they can; seizure burns so much energy and does cause a blood pressure drop
  • getting them safely to transport or a carer
  • getting them some dignity like a blanket/towel [loosing control of your bladder and bowels is fucking horrifying]
  • ensuring they have a way to get home. Someone who has just had a seizure should NEVER DRIVE straight after
  • calling emergency services if you notice any of these symptoms because they may have stroked out.

Why you shouldn’t put anything in someone’s mouth: they will choke. Yes, they may bite their tongue but I can assure you it’s less traumatic than cracking your jaw on someone’s greasy wallet or choking on a spoon.

DO NOT HOLD ANYONE DOWN. Example: someone pinned my right shoulder mid-seizure a few years back and how I have a permanently displaced and clicking shoulder. Let the person flail around, those muscles are out of control and restraining them does cause more damage to the patient and you.

choking on water is the worst because how do you stop choking? drink something? well ive got some bad news for you

Lean your head forward, preferably to knee level, and let the water kind of drain out of your mouth. When your are able to, take deep slow breaths. No heimlich maneuver or physical assists from somebody else should be used beyond this, otherwise you could vomit and escalate the issue. Its about keeping the larynx open. Hopefully this helps.

Reblog to fucking save a life.

4 Tips for Autistic Writers

Autistic writers can face unique challenges when it comes to writing. NaNo Participant Auden Halligan has tips to handle some of those challenges!

So, you’ve just sat down at your desk, all ready to work on your next chapter, but you just can’t seem to start. Something is itching at your brain, and no matter how hard you think, you can’t figure it out. For autistic writers, that itch might be even harder to get around when compounded with autistic inertia, introspection issues, and sensory processing disorder — even if we were super excited to get started, sometimes the stumbling blocks are enough to keep us from going anywhere at all.

Here are four tips to identify your struggles and work around them rather than against them as an autistic writer!

good night to the least favorite child, to the third friend who has to sit alone, to the one nobody makes eye contact with, to those who don’t know how to pet cats, to the quiet one and the really really quiet one, to those who get interrupted, to the one person who left early because it makes no difference. goodnight to the forgotten ones. good night to the side characters.

food moods:

  • i would Rather Die than consume a food
  • if anyone stands between me and consuming my food i will devour them whole
  • i can consume only this one, singular, specific food
  • i do not know the specific food i am Allowed to eat but all other food in my vicinity is illegal
  • i regret consuming a food
  • i regret consuming That Food Specifically
  • i WILL regret consuming this food, but it will not stop me
  • didn't know how bad i needed to consume a food, threw a minor tantrum about it, consumed the food, am undergoing an unauthorized magical girl transformation
  • i deeply resent that consuming foods regularly is a requirement of existence and i WILL be taking this matter up in Ghost Court with whatever entity or entities are responsible for this suffering
  • food is the best and i will consume every food allowed near me with gleeful abandon
  • i crave Specific Food so intensely that i shall tragically perish if forced to consume any alternate food
  • wanted to consume this food, now it's in front of me, appetite's on strike
  • ate this specific food so many times for such an extended period that i will fling myself from a cliff if you even suggest i consume it ever again
  • Food must Cronch, all else is poison
  • Food must NOT Cronch, all else is poison.
  • nothing in this house is food. food exists in shops. shops are a) too far away b) closed c) both

additional food moods:

  • i waited too long to consume a food and now consuming the food is forbidden by The Nausea
  • i have consumed so much of the food i am juuuuust this side of miserable and regret nothing
  • i have consumed so much of the food i am on the other side of miserable and regret everything
  • i was so impatient to consume this desperately desired food that i rushed the preparation, called it good enough entirely too soon, and am now deeply disappointed that the food is Wrong
  • i desired the food, prepared the food well and promptly, and the satisfaction and tastiness is causing Victory Euphoria
  • this food was great in my memory but nostalgia betrayed me and damn this really Isn't Good, huh
  • nostalgia has romanticized the food to heights of perfection reality surely cannot hold up to--Oh My God It's Actually That Good
  • food was Tasty but then A Texture happened and i am seized with revulsion and Mouth Trauma
  • too tired to consume a food, but now too hungry to sleep, which is Some Bullshit

Every artist who sees this post should do the following:

- Watch the video.

- Follow the instructions

- Reblog

I can’t stress you enough about how important these exercises are for your drawing hand. You don’t wanna get CTS of Tendonitis and similar stuff that will prevent you from making art or even hold  a pencil.

Avatar

Okay, this guy is my HERO. I just did these exercises as I watched the video, and already my arms and hands feel better. I have a degenerative tendon disease that prevents my muscles, tendons and ligaments from retaining their elasticity, and so anything that maintains the health of my bendy parts is important.

I URGE YOU. Even if you don’t draw, do these several times a day. Even just sitting at a computer can do serious damage. My dad, who was a rugby player, a carpenter, and now a handyman, suffered from severe carpal tunnel syndrome, simply as a result of sitting at the computer at the end of the day to play a little solitaire. Don’t let it happen to you!

((Guys, I will reblog this like, 5 times a day just so you all will see this. This is REALLY helpful, and it’s quick and easy.))

Wow, these are REALLY helpful. And yes, this is not just good but IMPORTANT for more than artists — if you type a lot, play a lot of video games, do anything that requires lots of repetitive movements of your hands, wrists, and arms (gardening, sewing, factory work), these can help. Even if you don’t yet get pain these are a great preventative measure, because the damage builds up over time. Youth is no protection.

And like he says, you should feel a stretch, but don’t push it too far!

Signal boosting.  Guys, I just did this and holy cow do I feel incredibly light and limber in my arms.  Again, even if you don’t have any sort of disease, do this as a preventative measure.

I had to reblog this because i need to escape my carpel tunnel t-t
