The Dubois Sisters

@duboissisters-pkmn

(Blog currently under construction)
A Pokémon OC RP blog for my OCs: Honey, Weiss, and Bronte Dubois. See pinned posts for trainer info and teams. Canon is cherry-picked from the games and shows. Open for asks/RP. SFW only, barring canon-typical violence. No magic anons.

Hi Professor! I’ve lived with Vulpix all my life but recently, an Alolan Vulpix came into my life and I’m not sure how to deal with him! He’s awfully small and shy, and I’ve never dealt with a displaced ice type like this before!! Do you have any advice?

Oh damn, it’s really not my area of expertise. Ice types never come my way.

Standard procedure, establish a safe space for them ONLY. Do not let other Pokemon go into that space. It could be. Room, a box, a crate, whatever, just set up a zone that is only for the new Pokemon. Tell them it’s theirs, allow them to have some say over it’s decoration if they have opinions on that. This area is a good place to go if they feel overwhelmed, stressed, or simply want some alone time; if they are within this space, ask your other Pokemon to give them room, and only interact if they come back out of the space. You shouldn’t even go in their zone unless they express a want for you to. If you have to clean it, which you will, tell them, give them time to get use to the idea, and then clean fast and replace things the way you found them.

Have a regular place and time for eating and drinking, so they always know where to get a drink, or that a dinner will be coming.

Because of its typing, and my lack of info on your lifestyle, location or resources, I’d suggest getting a nevermeltice chunk, keep it in a tub of water, bucket will do, somewhere the Pokemon can reach and be around it. The ice will not melt, hence the name, it will just freeze the container of water, making it a cool location for ice types to settle near. This is more important in summer, but if you get cold winters, it becomes less necessary.

They can be fussy eaters, trying lots of blends and flavours may be the key to them getting a balanced diet, supportive reassurance of new foods helps them feel safe trying new stuff. Be enthusiastic if you can, if they’re not very old, it’ll be nice for them to feel joy and excitement in the mundane tasks of the day, like eating. Their omnivorous, scavengers, though you’d not think it looking at their pretty form. Thankfully your other Pokemon is also a vulpix, so you’ll have a good idea of the endless brushing, and poke-pellet foods that may suit them.

They show stress in the same ways as kantonian vulpix, chewing of legs, scratching, panting, being genrally skittish. All signs to look for, indicators of their nervousness or discomfort. Lucky really, vulpix in general are tough, they can drink and eat just about anything to survive, and have a knack for breaking and entering should they need to. Their immune system is pretty top notch, they run too cold for most infections to settle in, and often no bacteria survives in that condition either. You shouldn’t have too much issue raising one but y9u did come to the wrong professor for this.

Anyone got more info? I’m not an ice keeper, this trainer needs us to rally for aid on how to care for these icy cool suckers!

Honey mentioned this case to me so, as a resident Ice Specialist in Alola I thought I could help, especially given I’ve raised one of these Pokémon before. The Alolan variant of the Vulpix line is actually rather sturdy to temperature changes compared to other Ice types, but it absolutely needs an isolated place to cool off, as Professor Peach said. If you have a running stream or spring near/on your property, another option is to build a spring house (an old precursor to a refrigerator), its essentially a stone-bottomed shed that is enclosed and allows the stream to flow through it in the middle, naturally cooling the interior. The Alolan variety of Vulpix/Ninetales tend to be loners, so it’s important they have a space to retreat to when overwhelmed by the rest of your team, including yourself. The Nevermelt Ice is a fairly common item, but an Icy Rock will also work; do NOT use an Ice Stone as it triggers evolution in this species.

A very important question for all of the apple trainers out there.

I always have to tuck Honeycrisp under my arm if I have to carry her. It’s important to give them proper support! Plus if you lose your grip on that first option you might peel off some crust and that’s not good for them! ~Honey

me explaining to the other trainers that apricorns are unknown outside of Johto because of deliberate suppression by the Silph and Devon corporations to present artificial pokeballs as the only means of capturing pokemon and establish regional monopolies after they eliminate renewable sources

eternalfarnham replied to your post

you’re in the pocket of Big Ball, I see

there’s no pocket for me to BE in, there’s no LOBBYING involved, there’s no SUPPRESSION campaign because you don’t need one! traditional methods suppress themselves when you make modern pokéballs available. you might as well start accusing AT&T of deliberately suppressing the noble traditional art form of the goddamn semaphore.

not to mention OP demonstrates a total lack of understanding of the market realities of the pokéball industry- Silph and Devon are not monopolies, if they weren’t in constant competition their magic monster domination spheres wouldn’t cost two bucks a pop. the ball spec is a public standard, and Bill Masaki’s storage system based on that standard is an open-source project. they’re only the two largest players because they’re able to leverage economies of scale. you still get smaller operations like the Laverre City Poké Ball Factory, with better regional supply chains and local brand recognition, making room for themselves in the market.

sm FUCKING h at y’all granola-crunching conspiracy theorists. you probably also believe Super Potions cause autism.

Ok, but it is a shame that artisanal balls are basically off the market now. Like, you have to ride the monorail and hike through a half dozen routes just to find someone willing to sell you a Fast Ball. Believe me, when your boss at the power plant needs five Electrodes by Tuesday you are not going to want to make the trip to Alola; you’re going to head on down to the Mart and get some Ultra Balls, which will do the trick but aren’t well tailored to the job.

I’m with you that modern catching techniques are better, not to mention more humane, but there genuinely is a loss from more niche balls becoming harder to find. Maybe someday the long slowpoketail of consumer demand will be met, but I wouldn’t hold my breath for that Shellder.

In universe discourse is the most RIVETING shit possible, dude. I would read HOURS of in universe Pokemon discourse, god, seriously.

As a heads up, I am slowly making pixel art of all the pokemon on this blog. This will be a slow process (18 customized sprites is a lot of work) but eventually there will be some art! The sprites will get their own posts by team, then when relevant posts/asks come up they’ll show up again.

Jouleborough: A Summary

Hi there; Bronte here! It struck me that since most trainers only go to the towns on the main Gym Challenge circuit (and, lets be honest, so do like 70% of tourists) that many people wouldn’t have heard of my city. So, I’m gonna write you guys up a lil something-something so y’can learn something.

Jouleborough is located on the Northwestern coast of Galar, on a spur of land wedged between the sea and the mountains north of Wyndon. Just outside the city is what’s locally referred to as the Pikachu Forest, as there’s an unusually dense population of that Pokemon and its evolution line there. Before Chairman Rose established his Dynamax power plant, Jouleborough was the primary source of energy for the region, harvested from wind turbines off the coast and solar farms. After the switch in energy sources, however, it kinda fell to the wayside. The city is known for its bright neon lights, modern architecture, large performance hall, and its Electric type Gym. Most outsiders don’t realize that there’s a gym for every type in Galar, but only the top gyms get to be on the official Gym Challenge circuit.

My gym hasn’t been on the official record for several years, and is instead used on the “minor” circuit for people to “practice” on. Now that I have taken over from the previous gym leader (a lovely older woman named Florence; she’s more than earned her retirement), my goal is to get Jouleborough back on the map. One of the other things working against us right now is that the city doesn’t have a Dynamax Spot, so it’s not a “popular” option. It suits me just fine though; I specialize in Double Battles anyway. We’re currently in the process of updating our challenge and changing trainers, so stay tuned for that news!

We’ve had a rocket attack go down in the last 24 hours. Until the issue is contained, the island docks are closed to visitors. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and the labs should be running functionally after a couple of days to recover from the damages.

No Pokemon were taken but some staff sustained injury, so don’t worry too much.

Luckily it seems none of them were stupid enough to try for the North half of the island this time. Seems they just tried for so-called “easy targets”. Odd that Omen didn’t pick up anything beforehand, but perhaps because this wasn’t a “disaster” his abilities didn’t pick it up? Either way, we will be redoubling our efforts on our patrols. ~Honey
