I NEED people to understand that condoms aren’t free because “MEN like to FUCK lol,” they’re free because thirteen thousand people die from AIDS every year in the US alone.

Stop framing free menstrual products as more essential than free condoms. They should BOTH be free.

If you want to clown on this post, I can and will block you.

Free condoms are not less important than free menstrual supplies.

“But you can abstain from sex!!!”

Sex workers deserve safe working conditions. Impoverished people deserve access to safe sex.

End of story.

"I Don't Have A Special Interest"

For those who are seeking diagnosis, are questioning if they're autistic or self-diagnose as autistic.

Special interests are often portrayed as knowing everything there is to know about one niche topic. It's often shown as the ability to state all facts about that topic, proving every NT in the room wrong.

Whilst yes, this is also how a special interest can work, it is not the only way.

How a special interest can present (just examples and not an exhaustive list):

  • Collecting random information about a broad topic such as having a Pinterest board of science facts or a folder of dinosaur pictures.
  • Collecting books about topics but not knowing all the information. Remember, it's the fact that this interest excludes all other interests that makes it a "special interest". It's not the memorising of every fact.
  • Collecting objects. Having shelves of figurines, stuffed animals, D&D dice, Funko Pop Vinyls etc.
  • Watching videos on a topic. Not everyone has the money to collect items and other neurodivergences can make reading difficult, so watching videos on your special interest counts as engaging in your special interest.
  • Learning all you can about a person or character. People can be a special interest.
  • Your work can be a special interest. Some autistics end up in a field of work that they want to know all about, and it becomes their SpIn.
  • Multiple small Special Interests. Not all SpIns are big huge topics. Some autistics have small, narrow interests or sometimes broad, vast topics as special interests. They all count.
  • "Average" interests can be special interests. It's intense interest to the exclusion of all other interests...it's not about whether allistics also like those things. Euphoria can be your latest special interest, a cartoon can be your special interest, a new video game etc.
  • Collecting images of a topic.
  • Making that special interest part of your life, such as owning cats or being a dog walker because you love to learn and interact all you can with them and if anyone asks you'll gladly gush for hours about how amazing these animals are etc
  • Writing stories. I truly think there is a huge amount of amateur fiction and fan fiction written by unaware autistics based on their special interest.

And many many more ways.

Remember: an standard interest is "yes, I enjoy that. I will talk about this topic if it is brought up.".

A special interest is "I love this and want to discuss it now. Can we bring this topic around to my special interest? I feel like my heart is pounding just even thinking about this topic. Even my standard interests would benefit by having some of my special interest added."

being unafraid to post lazy, unpolished art

thank u everyone that recognized bec i panicked and didn’t know what to put on the paper so i just doodled something that made me happy. i haven’t touched homestuck in almost a decade [has it been so long??? god i’m old] i dunno what it is about that dog that keeps me comin back to it. the shapes make my heart happy and always will

fun fact: if there is a ‘no dogs on the beach’ sign, please respect it, because the beach is probably a nesting site for plovers, terns, or other marine birds. their little babies are the size and shape of dandelions and your dog might eat or chase and terrify them and you wouldn’t even notice

wait here’s a photo

Something I don’t think enough people recognize when it comes to making shows more diverse, there is so much going on behind the scene that you literally can’t “just add them.”

Alex Hirsch had to wait until the end of Gravity Falls to show that Sheriff Blubs and Deputy Durland were in love so that way the show didn’t get prematurely cancelled. And even still, that was censored in other countries.

________

The Owl House has a bisexual afro Latina protagonist that falls in love with a white lesbian. They kiss several times on screen and say “my awesome girlfriend.” It also has Disney’s first nonbinary character (Raine Whispers), their bisexual love interest (Eda Clawthorne), and an aro/ace woman (Lilith Clawthorne). However, because like five people said that TOH wasn’t the “Disney brand” the show is prematurely cancelled. So even with everything that TOH did, it only won battle but lost the war.

________

The art crew for Encanto had to fight to make Luisa buff. And when they were finally able to make her buff, Disney didn’t make as much Luisa merchandise because they thought little girls would want Mirabel or Isabela’s since they’re more “feminine.” (I think the same thing happened with Namaari when RATLD came out but I’m not sure. So don’t quote me on that.)

*Also, Luisa out sold Mirabel and Isabela. So that’s a win.

________

Bubblegum and Marceline couldn’t kiss until the series finale of Adventure Time because it would’ve been cancelled. So throughout the entire series, the crew always just had to imply undertones about their past. Since HBO produced Obsidian, they were able to kiss on screen.

________

Korra and Asami’s relationship had to tempt down so that way Nick could continue airing the show and they weren’t allowed to kiss until the comics.

________

Turning Red got so much unwarranted criticism because not only did Mei’s mom say “pads” but she showed them on screen. (I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if that made you uncomfortable, that’s a sign that we need to do this more and not less.)

________

Some countries marked She Ra as 18+ because Catra and Adora kissed on screen. (Once again, I’m not sure if this completely true but ND Stevenson had to fight to actually show them kissing on screen instead of a fade to white.)

________

Steven Universe is the gayest show I’ve ever seen in my life which was both good and bad. It was good for obvious reasons. Example being that it was the first show that introduced to me nonbinary people in a way that wasn’t “haha, look, she uses they/them pronouns. She’s so funny and quirky.”

And it’s bad because it put a target on it’s back. SU has been censored so much that it’s honestly a miracle that we got an ending. And in most of the countries that censored SU, they usually portray Ruby as a man. So I can’t imagine how bad the censors were when the wedding happened and Ruby wore a dress and Sapphire wore a suit.

________

Also, you have to remember the outdated idea that gay/trans topics are “too mature” for kids to handle (there’s an episode of Adam Ruins Everything that talks about this). So it’s easier for shows with an older audience (like Arcane) to have queer/trans rep.

Not to mention, if you ever go on Insider’s website to look at the queer/trans characters in cartoons [here], most of the characters are revealed to be queer only online and not in the actual show.

________

All of this BS because God forbid that kids find out that other people exist.

Representation is important but please, just be aware of the actually struggles that go on that you don’t see and be thankful that this is where we are now because even though it might seem like it at times remember that this is actual progress. We need to keep pushing studios to do more. I’m sure that there’s millions of untold stories that would be made if not for this prejudice.

hey you know what's really fucking annoying is like how all the articles about autism are "if you have a child with autism" or "for your child with autism" or generally aimed at parents. like. autistic people grow up. surprise. it's utterly humiliating that the language of all our resources are directed at the people who raise us, like we're just children forever, and "they couldn't understand anyway, OBVIOUSLY there's no need to write articles addressed to autistic adults lol"

twitter sucks for art because you have a maximum of 48 hours before your art post completely fades out of existence whereas tumblr lets things circulate forever. and also you can read all of the fun lovely things that people leave in the tags that they’d probz be too shy to say in a public reply

"You arent a real monsterfucker if you only like humanoid beings"

1. Why are you gatekeeping wanting to fuck monster? Is this the hill you're dying on?

2. Sorry i don't want to fuck anything that doesn't at least have enough sentience to know what sex is (like tentacle monsters are the most ill do, but only if they're like sentient)

Reblog if you hate picrews with no dark skin options (yes even the ones where the shade of white is even a little darker, and yes ashy tones too bc there SUPER annoying, and the ones with no curly or protective hair like braids)
