there’s just something so similar about rory encouraging jess in “teach me tonight” and the “why did you drop out of yale?” speech. those two scenes really encompass why rory and jess work. they know and understand each other better than themselves. rory knows jess is smart and he has things to say that are worth listening to so of course she’s gonna talk about how much he can do. and later in life their roles have switched rory is lost and she doesn’t know what to do with her life she needs that push from jess. someone who knows how ambitious and hardworking she is and knows she has something to offer. it really all comes full circle during “the real paul anka” rory yelled at jess and he did something with himself. jess yelled at rory and she fixed her life. it would’ve been the perfect moment for them to get together but no, we get the ultimate “right person, wrong time” moment thanks to logan
