I have two contradictory headcanons for Dr. Mario at this point and I like them both equally.

Headcanon #1 (nostalgic): Dr. Mario is Mario & Luigi’s dad. Yes this is largely out of blog nostalgia but also I still love it because reasons.

Headcanon #2 (canon compliant): Dr. Mario is Mario from a disease-ridden alternate universe and was forced to become a doctor because the Mushroom Kingdom (and Bowser’s Kingdom) is so desperate for doctors that they’re willing to recruit actual infants and the virus outbreak is so high that the only two choices for an individual is to either become a doctor or doctor’s assistant (often at such short notice that they’re unable to get a medical degree) or fall victim to the virus themselves.

How would everyone (especially the DLC challengers) have gotten their *physical envelopes* that contain their invites anyway? We clearly saw Isabelle get her’s when she got her mail came in back in September 2018, but what about everyone else (Piranha Plant being an elephant in the room on this subject)? Does an overworked Lakitu have to navigate through countless worlds, universes, dimensions, etc. with these specifically-addressed invites? But this is how I think all the DLC fighters got their invites:

  • Joker probably either got his in the mail or he stole one, then smuggled Morgana in for all the taunts
  • Hero (or in this case, four Heroes) I have no comment on since there’s four invites that had to go out for four specific people from across varying times
  • Banjo & Kazooie had their invite especially-marked in the mail where a celebration took place and Gruntilda continues to be salty
  • Terry got his when the envelope was let loose and everyone else in the Fatal Fury cast couldn’t hold onto it (there’s a video on it)
  • Sothis received Byleth’s invite somehow and only dropped that on them in that moment in the video as a genuine surprise
  • Min Min got her’s mixed in with some work mail
  • Steve found his in a small marked chest with a small book signed by Master Hand
  • Sephiroth stole Geno’s invite, rewrote it, and got away with it
  • Pyra/Mythra got theirs and didn’t tell Rex until that moment when he was looking for them
  • Kazuya (the one revealed today) I can’t think about since I know nothing of Tekken and because the trailer didn’t show a lot to go off of
  • Master Hand is keeping the last invite from being sent for now, and is withholding the name written on the last invite in the second series (Smash Pass) for a later date. It’s unknown if the Hands will write more invites for a third series (third Smash Pass)

Not all of them joined via a written invitation, not to mention that some invitations don't seem to be addressed to anyone specifically.

  • Bowser probably begged Master Hand to let Piranha Plant in.
  • Joker canonically stole his iirc (the original owner is not specified). It's implied that he was the cause of K. Rool's reformation (gameplay footage in one of Joker's trailers shows him stealing K. Rool's crown, and K. Rool is shown to be much more amicable in World of Light and reveal trailers following Joker's), so he showed up before World of Light.
  • Eleven, Arusu, Solo, and Eight were allowed in as reward for their help during World of Light (they showed up in the Dark Realm to help Link).
  • Banjo & Kazooie got their invite in the mail sometime before World of Light and after Joker's trailer, since their reveal trailer shows K. Rool and the Kongs just relaxing together, and they appear in the final battle in Sephiroth's trailer.
  • Like you mentioned, Terry was the only one who managed to keep a grip on his invitation long enough to redeem it.
  • Sothis got an invite and passed it to Byleth (whether it was addressed specifically to them or it was unaddressed is not explicitly stated).
  • Min Min got her invite similar to how Terry got his. Initially it had been claimed by Spring Man until he got some teeth knocked out of him.
  • Steve was with Mario when Master Hand went to retrieve Mario from Minecraft and Master Hand was like "Holy shit is that Minecraft Steve" and gave him an invitation on the spot. This probably happened sometime after World of Light.
  • Sephiroth *technically* helped during World of Light when he landed the final hit on Galeem so he was allowed to join despite all the chaos he caused immediately after.
  • Like you said, Pyra and Mythra got their invitation and kept it a surprise from Rex until he managed to find them on his own.
  • I'd be willing to bet the only reason Kazuya got in is because he showed up and asserted dominance.

Okay so you've gotten asks about this before so feel free to ignore this one, but I have hyperfixated slightly on the other smashers reacting to how absolutely fucked the kirby universe is (Mecha Knight, Dedede getting possessed on a fairly regular basis, the amount of trauma kirby probably has) and I was wondering if you had any more hc about it? No pressure though, and I love your blog!

  • King Dedede told Mario he sympathizes with his various misfortunes in Smash, and stated that his reason for doing so was because of how often he's gotten possessed/mind controlled. This made Mario slightly uncomfortable.
  • Many people get concerned whenever Meta Knight jokes about his totally-not-at-all-trauma surrounding cybernetics and robotics. He insists nothing is wrong but is adamant about not using the jetpack during matches.
  • Kirby likes to introduce the other fighters to his friends. Some fighters express concern about how many of Kirby's friends previously tried to take over or destroy the world, but Kirby doesn't think anything of it.

A quick round of 3rd party hcs?

  • Snake, Bayonetta, and Shadow once tried giving Pac-Man a gun and they were all scolded for a solid thirty minutes for it.
  • Steve and Alex will occasionally place a flower pot in front of someone and place a flower inside as a show of friendly affection.
  • Those who are unfamiliar with Banjo-Kazooie or haven't played Banjo-Tooie are often disturbed by how casually Banjo and Kazooie talk about death.

To finally free myself of this intrusive need I have to turn Sonic characters into humans here is as many characters I could actually care to do. (Also a lil redesign for Eggman)

also pls commission me thanks :)

If anyone’s curious regarding how Tikal looks compared to other characters in her world, there you go. Mind you, everyone is a bit older here, so as a result Cream being roughly 13 years old at 3′8″, Shadow being… whatever, just passing 4′ or so, and Tikal being a bloody 4000+ years old at a horrifying ~4′5″. It’s all approximate, though, and subject to change, but the order is what would stay the same I think. I’d consider that Tikal stuffed herself into the emerald at about 15-17 (because I kinda didn’t like the thought of someone too young going through something that awful), and her body, technically “alive”, aged more and more slowly until about only a few years-in she completely stopped somewhere in the ballpark of whatever could be considered “biologically mature” for a mobian without quite hitting full “adult”, which would still be a little bit young for human standards but eh.

Cream looks a bit different in the AU, starting to resemble her mother a bit with the exception of an important feature: eyebrows. truly an incredible change in evolution.

Shadow, he doesn’t look much different. Grew out the muzzle very slightly, because that’s obligatory among 99.99965% of Shadow AUs set later on because let’s be fair it’s a nice look on him, but that’s about it. I don’t know if that weird jacket on him is going to stick, but we’ll see.
