Unicorn Women by Brian Froud
The unicorn is a wild beast, tamed only by being soothed in a virgin’s lap, or the sight of a pale breast. Unicorns are usually male, and in alchemical symbolism are representative of spirit and the creative heart. But we are in Faerie, where things are upside down and have different perspectives. Here the female takes on the attributes and strengths of the male unicorn, whilst still retaining her femininity. The horn emerging from the forehead is a symbolic of the spiral energy flowing through the body and connecting to higher planes. It is also a psychic force penetrating into other worlds; an emblem of focused female wisdom and strength and the power of their intuition.
