people have never wanted their posts to pop off on here that is... not a new development

if anything it used to be worse because your activity/notifications used to be directly on your dash. so you REALLY did not want a popular post. if you got one you didn't see your actual dash for days

tumblr is a pvp enabled zone, kids

Used to be like this kids and it was fucking awful

A popular post meant seeing all notifications between each post on your dash as they happened. It's also why we hated spam rebloggers.

this post is giving war flashbacks to everyone who was on tumblr before 2016 and i will not apologise

This is why I was (pettily) thrilled my most popular post ever was a reply to someone else. OP had to suffer the consequences of all my notes.

I had nearly forgotten about this "feature" oh my god....one time....the Official Doctor Who Tumblr™ reblogged a gif I made on new episode premier night and it was a nightmare.

You’ve been sentenced to 400 years for multiple murders. It’s been 399 years and your jailers are starting to get nervous.

I was twenty… twenty-five, I think?… when I was sentenced. Four hundred years was a length of time I couldn’t even imagine. It was a length of time I don’t think anyone could imagine, even the judge. It was just a big showy number that let everyone know I’d never see the light of day again. The mages who cast the spells were dramatic about it, practically shouting the part about ‘until death claims you, or four hundred years hath passed, forsooth, thou shalt be imprisoned here’. They don’t waste that kind of magic on most prisoners, but I was special.

The Slayer, they called me then. The Monster of Sentan. I’d killed nineteen people… I remember that number because I was so furious that they stopped me so close to my goal of twenty-one. And I didn’t just kill ordinary people, no, but the Chosen of the Gods. The Great and Good. They were terrified of me. So they locked me away, to die forgotten.

It had been a little less than a hundred years when the king died without heir, and a civil war tore the country apart. When the fighting was all over, the losers were dragged down to the deepest cells under the castle, and the new king and his soldiers stopped and stared at me. “Who… who is this?” he asked, frowning. “Some victim of the usurper?”

People like cooks and jailers and scrubbers don’t change as easily as kings. The same man who’d been bringing me my meals since there was still brown in his hair and beard shuffled forward, hunched and grey now. “No, yer majesty,” he said humbly. “That be a special prisoner, from before the old king died.”

“Special? Special how?” He frowned, moving closer to my cell. “The old king died more than ten years ago. This woman must have been a child then. What could she have done to - “

“Don’t get too close, yer majesty,” the old man said sharply. “That’s the Monster of Sentan… an’ she bites.”

That was true. I do bite.

I really feel like Television should enter an era of allowing happy endings. That’s not to say characters can’t suffer along the way or that storylines can’t be “dark” but I would really like to see stories end on hopeful notes. I’m so sick of every story having tragic endings, especially considering the world we live in right now. Call me naive, I don’t care, but hope breeds hope. Love breeds love. Happiness breeds happiness. Allowing our characters to overcome and find the light in the end is powerful. Allowing characters to be happy is brave because happiness is not boring. I feel like we’re surrounded by dark stories in fiction and in reality and I find myself wondering where’s the hope and happiness.. is no one overcoming the darkness?

As Terry Pratchett said:

Why does the third of the three brothers, who shares his food with the old woman in the wood, go on to become king of the country? Why does Bond manage to disarm the nuclear bomb a few seconds before it goes off rather than, as it were, a few seconds afterwards? Because a universe where that did not happen would be a dark and hostile place. Let there be goblin hordes, let there be terrible environmental threats, let there be giant mutated slugs if you really must, but let there also be hope. It may be a grim, thin hope, an Arthurian sword at sunset, but let us know that we do not live in vain.”

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):

  • “For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.
  • “But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.
  • “When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.
  • “When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”
  • “This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”
  • “There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.

And!

  • “If you’re breaking dialogue up with an action tag”—she waves her hands back and forth—”the dashes go outside the quotation marks.”

How come we can't just have villains anymore

What if the evil fashion designer wanted to skin puppies because she was evil? What if the guy that stabbed a bunch of teenagers did that because he wanted to stab a bunch of teenagers? What if the evil witch wanted to cook and eat children because she was--you guessed it!--evil? Why's everybody gotta have some tragic backstory for sympathy points? Boo! I want to see some unrepentant bastard do bastardly things and, perhaps, a woman covered in blood, also.

Everyone thinks their villain can be goob from meet the robinsons. Your villain will never be goob from meet the robinsons. Just make them evil.

@crvggio I’ve been laughing at this for 47 years

Reblogging again because that last addition is IMPORTANT

But when the world needed him most, he pulled the wrong lever...

Oh my fuck I’ve fallen in love with this post

“I’m so anti-fascist I report my friends and neighbors to the feds”

“I would have never snitched on Anne Frank! Anyway, here’s a person I’m related to at the capitol!”

Avatar

Hey I don't know if you know this but snitching on someone for storming the capitol with intent to kill someone is not the same as snitching on someone for the crime of... *checks notes* being a jewish child

Did somebody really just compare snitching on Nazis to the feds for trying to violently impose their Nazi ideology on the American people to... the reporting on Jewish people hiding from, y’know, the Nazis???

Thank you for being a constant in my life for more than 7 years.

Thank you for helping me become who i am.

Thank you for being my home away from home.

Thank you for being one of my first anchor.

Thank you for being my hope past hope.

Thank you for everything.

Supernatural Season 1 - 3

Now that we’re nearing the end, I needed a little walk down memory lane. So I’ve decided to make one “poster” per season, featuring all the episode titles of the season. I’ll be releasing these slowly in batches of three to four, finishing with a poster for Season 15 <3 This batch was a nice little trip through the early seasons, with monster of the week and many memories of when I first fell in love with Sam and Dean’s world.

I’d love to hear what your favourite episode from the early seasons of Supernatural was!
