I think the best approach to VTM lore is to Have Fun and just take what you need bc it does get to the point that itโs so overly complicated it is difficult to work with. That being said whenever the writers do attempt to simplify the lore at all (see: vampire the requiem) I reject it vehemently. You can pry that convoluted religious vampire cosmology and 100 minor clans from my cold dead hands. Cain WILL rise from ancient vampiric slumber to eat his children and make the sky rain blood I can tell you that much
A very long time ago in a notebook of currently unknown location I started a hannibal / vampire the masquerade fanfiction lmao. Having a VTM AU is always really fun and youโd think itโd be really accessible as just a vampire AU but actually bc of the specificity of the clans and mess of faction politics and straight jargon itโs actuallyโฆ.not. But I was still writing it. Hannibal was a tzimisce passing for a ventrue among the camarilla and will was a malkavian. Obviously!!!!
