Larry Stylinson is not a ship.

First off, let me just say that I have not been here since the beginning. I had heard One Direction’s music but never really paid much attention to them.

What brought me here was just one simple photo; it was a photo of Louis with Eleanor at Jay’s wedding. It had been posted onto my Facebook.

I was honestly confused at first because I was so sure he was with Harry. I took to Google and looked up Harry and Louis, before I even know the term “Larry” existed.

To my shock, I found that I wasn’t the only one who thought they were together. Thousands of people did. And after watching countless YouTube videos, I could see why.

In their first videos, the video diaries, it was apparent they shared something with each other that none of the other band mates did. It was completely obvious.

I soon realized that One Direction was made for the sole purpose of making money; if that meant closeting 2 members, then so be it.

Think back to 2012. Think back to the last time Harry tweeted Louis. It was almost as if they were never friends in the years that followed; that the affection we seen between them never existed.

Some people still argue that the fans who “shipped” them forced them apart, even though “shipping” is just a normal part of any fandom. Why were no other ships inside of One Direction scrutinized to the point Larry was?

Because it’s real; it always has been.

Now, imagine when they had just been signed by their “mentor.” Imagine the thrill they must’ve felt when they first ventured into this whole new world of singing, touring, fans.

Imagine the pain they must’ve felt when they were told by management they were no longer allowed to interact. Imagine how hard it must’ve been to stop themselves from doing something that just came so naturally to them.

Imagine Louis during Haylor; having to bite his tongue whenever it was brought up. Imagine how he must’ve felt while Harry’s reputation was destroyed by being called the “womanizer” by media, even though his heart belonged to Louis.

Imagine walking out on stage and singing to thousands of people nearly every night and your soul mate who you’ve loved since day one is standing right next to you, but you can’t even talk to him.

Imagine being forbidden to travel with this person, or be seen publicly with this person. But they’re your entire world.

Imagine having to keep any and all contact strictly behind closed doors because you have no say whatsoever.

Imagine inking your skin with this forbidden person, not once but multiple times, because you aren’t allowed to openly express yourself.

Imagine having to control your real emotions when it comes to this person just because you’re in love with someone they say you shouldn’t be.

Imagine having your good name taken from you by lies the media has sold. Imagine people thinking the worst of you because of the untrue stories they have read about you.

This has happened to not only Harry, but now Louis. Louis Tomlinson is not who the media portrays him to be. They changed all of their images, but Louis was the most changed.

Imagine being 18 and absolutely carefree in who you are only to discover that you have to change how you act, speak, and dress because they don’t want people to assume you’re anything but straight.

Imagine being in the biggest boyband in the world with the love of your life but no one is even allowed to know.

Imagine how hard it must’ve been for the two of them to change; from the free, affectionate boys on those stairs to two men who seem to act as if they’re not even in the same band.

Boyband members have been closeted in the past. Anyone who says otherwise needs to do some research. It’s happened multiple times. The closet DOES exist. And Harry and Louis were forced into that closet at a very young age.

Now, imagine that in spite of everything you have gone through in 5 years, the pain you’ve dealt with, you and this person who holds your heart have only become stronger.

They found ways to show us who they were; they have continued to do so.

Harry has made comments that people take as a joke; to Harry, it’s not a joke. It’s his way of screaming through those shut doors. It’s his subtle way of showing who he really is outside of the media’s eye.

Louis has done the same. He is portrayed as homophobic in the media, when he has shown us countless times he is NOT. He is portrayed as a party boy who doesn’t care about anyone but himself.

But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Louis cares, and he cares deeply for those he loves. Louis has accomplished so much at such a young age, even though it came at such a high price.

5 years later and Louis and Harry have not changed. We catch glimpses of the boys they were now more than ever. Their interaction has become a normal thing again. Why now?

After 3 years of not even speaking publicly, they seem very at ease with one another. They seem very comfortable around one another.

Tabloids have been made that have said they’ve been enemies since 2012. But once again, the media has construed who they really are.

Out of the public eye, they are two very different people. They’re two young men who have endured so much together; but it never changed who they were.

The real Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles is not what we see through their team or the media.

After 5 years of their team constantly denying Larry, even making it seem that 2 of their band mates denied it as well, this “ship” is stronger than ever.

I have never witnessed a “ship” with as many believers as this one. Maybe it’s because we see what is really there.

We see bravery. We see courage. We see determination. We see strength and endurance. But most importantly, we see love. We see trust. We see two individuals who have been there for one another through every shit storm that was created to break them.

I wish we could live in a world where everyone was treated equally for who they loved. But even though we don’t, when you find a couple like Harry and Louis who have dealt with all different levels of pain, it only makes you believe more that nothing is impossible.

If they have spent the last 5 years fighting for who they loved, it only makes you believe that love is worth fighting for. Love isn’t a fight, but is something worth fighting for.

Harry and Louis have taught me that; they have taught thousands of people that you don’t give up just because the odds are not in your favor.

They taught us that true love shouldn’t be hidden, but shown for the whole world to see. They taught us that even though the world says you shouldn’t love this person, it does not change your love for that person; it only makes it stronger.

One day, the truth will be known and both of them will finally be allowed to be them, whether it’s next year or even years from now. Whenever the time comes, I’ll be there for them. Because even though it was their fight, we have all fought with them.

Larry Stylinson is not a ship. It’s a love story that will one day change how the world perceives love.

Like Harry said, it all comes out in the wash. Eventually, their suffering will end and they will be free to love. They will be free to be those young boys again. And I cannot wait to witness that day.
