A friend of mine posted this and tagged my old instagram account, asking me to share it. I figured sharing it here where I actually have a following, would be far better.

Please remember that just because the government is giving into pressure and greed, that doesn’t mean that any of this is getting any better, in a lot of ways it’s getting worse. And even if you yourself aren’t being as heavily affected anymore, there are people and communities that are.

Stay safe Darling ones, and help others remain safe too.

All that advice at the start of the pandemic telling people to focus on things that they haven’t had time for, assuming everyone would take up needlepoint, yoga, or dust more. Seems the thing everyone wished they had more time for was dismantling the white supremacist police state.

If I ever doubt myself I just ask “WWDDOOTDDD?” (What Would Doug Dimmadome Owner Of The Dimmsdale Dimmadome Do?)

everyone check out this twitter thread bc it’s fucking mind blowing

YES I HAVE WONDERED WHY THIS IS

It’s partly because people are only showing the photographs that “prove” the idea.  I have a picture of my mom from when she was 11.  She looks like 6 in it.

But using JLo as a comparison is lols.  JLo has access to – and uses – the most up to date anti-aging technology from botox to creams to cryotreatment to lasers to the photograph they’re using of her is retouched.  She is artificially young-looking.  I’ve seen the unretouched photos of her.  She looks every year of 50.

A lot of it is aesthetics.  Post-1960s youth culture is the dominant driver and the dominant aesthetic.  The 15 year old doesn’t look old; she looks like a 15 year old in a fashion we associate with older people.

The other big thing other than we arrest aging in general is pollution.  Our air quality is so so much better than it was mid-20th century – or late 19th century – it’s not even a comparison.  London’s smog used to be so bad visibility was 20 feet, people used to walk into the wrong front door, and acid rain ate everything.  You can still see the effects of acid rain in what trees and plants were used in landscaping that are still around today.  We don’t used leaded gasoline, we have filters on our cars, our coal plants are not right in our cities, we have regulation on pollution.

And poverty and smoking.

But also better makeup textures on celebrity faces that use anti-aging tech you haven’t even heard of.

Sunscreen is also way more popular and better researched now.

Plus fashion used to be “look like an adult” and now it’s “look like you’re barely 20.”

But also, like Squee said, Botox, Photoshop, makeup.

Anyway, that photo of The Rock? Hilarious.

An artist in Baltimore wrote names of fatal victims of the police force along the sidewalk.

She began with victims killed on May 1st of 2013 and wrote every name that was recorded until the present day.

Names stretched from Penn Station to a George Washington monument in the middle of the city, which is nearly a mile in distance.

#RIP to the lost ones by police brutality.

a few years ago there was an exposé in the intercept about how, according to the fbi, police departments are so thoroughly infiltrated by white supremacists that it's policy to avoid working with them when possible. just something to think about
