dear gotham. words can’t describe the sadness i feel at this show ending. this show has been like another home to me and watching these characters grow over the past few years has been an amazing experience. thank you to the cast and crew for bringing to life the incredible portrayals of the villains and heroes we’ve come to love in this universe. thank you for everything. (2014 - 2019)
The Endgame commercials that were shown during Gotham last Thursday pissed me off. Fox has done some shady shit but WTF. It wasn't bad enough to put the finale the same night Endgame starts showing.
Fox has been horrible to Gotham. I don’t know if it’s because of Disney buying Fox’s former parent company, or because Fox and Warner Brothers were always fighting over profits from the show. We know Fox never felt they made enough money off Gotham, they’ve said that much. So far Fox has:
- Put the Gotham finale the same night as Endgame’s premiere and refused to respond to fan requests to change the date, after fans begged them for over 2 months. (The Endgame dates were announced by Disney last December).
- Advertised Endgame during Gotham (as you pointed out).
- Canceled Gotham
- Gave Gotham 10 episodes to “wrap up” and then added 2 more episodes after the original 10 had been filmed, so good planning was impossible
- Moved Gotham into lousy time slots and failed to promote it
- Year after year stuck long “breaks” and one hiatus after another into the middle of Gotham’s seasons, so fans were confused about when Gotham was airing
- Insisted on judging Gotham by the outdated Nielsen ratings system, when Gotham clearly has a strong international fanbase
- This list is just a starter set. I think we’re all angry about how Gotham’s been treated.
I have a theory about why Fox is trying to bury the finale.
For there to be any hope of a sequel, ever, the producers knew that they had to make a finale that would get outstanding ratings and social media buzz. They had to deliver Batman. The Batman fandom is much larger than the Gotham fandom and they need to pull in people who are curious to see Batman. It was their plan all along to show Batman at the end of the 7th season (when David would be 21 and Camren 21). This finale is a Hail Mary. They’re doing it at all costs even though it means replacing both Camren and David in a time jump. Let’s face it, some of David’s features CGI'ed onto another actor is NOT David.
This explains perfectly why Fox put the finale on against Endgame. They’re trying to keep the producers’ from being successful. Fox is trying to bury the finale so the producers’ last-ditch effort to find a way to continue Gotham ends up in failure.
This could be one reason why Camren is asking fans to accept Lilli. If this finale can result in a continuation of Gotham, David and Camren could pick their roles back up in a couple of years. Think about how optimistic David has been and enthused about playing Batman again. Why would he be so cheerful about it if he didn’t think there was any chance it would happen?
This is a “scorched earth” policy on the part of Fox. They don’t want Gotham any more and they don’t want it to continue anywhere else, either.
and u know, the 10 episodes thing is really an issue. because they say “gotham is renewed!!” and everyone stops fighting to save it even though it’s only “renewed” for 10 episodes and after that it’s ending, not on the showrunner’s terms but on fox’s
we deserve better and i don’t know how to make ppl see that!!
@singersalvageshop I agree, even now that we’re up to 12 episodes for the fifth season (after several months of a fan campaign, at least we finally got that much) , there’s so much more that can be done with Gotham.
Tze Chun, who is the main producer.writer for the 5th season has been extremely supportive of the fan campaign, even using the @SaveGotham tag on Twitter and suggesting a Batman show to Netflix. The cast has been supportive of the campaign. They’d like to continue, they’re open to a sequel, and Robin has even said he’d like a Penguin spin-off.
I’ve seen some resignation in the fandom, however, that leads to a lack of action. I think it has a number of causes.
- A lack of belief that anything is possible; the belief that because Gotham is ending on Fox, it’s doomed, and there’s nothing that can be done.
- The belief that Gotham is somehow “supposed” to end now, and if it continued the quality of the show would suffer.
- Some fans don’t have a Twitter account.
- We all have busy lives, and some fans feel they just don’t have time to do anything.
My response to these issues:
- No, Gotham’s not doomed: was Lucifer doomed? Fan support and social media have never been more influential, as networks are seeing the limitations of the old Nielsen rating system. Fans have power.
- The plot of Gotham was written to span 7 seasons, not 4 and a half. It’s not supposed to end now, we’re missing 2 seasons worth of plot.
- There are things you can do ( such as sending emails to networks) if you don’t have a Twitter account.
- No matter how busy you are, every small effort helps the big picture. You don’t have to devote hours a day to a fan campaign to make a difference! If you can do something just once; or if you can re-tweet other’s tweets, or make a few tweets per week, what you do is important.
Happy Birthday to my birthday buddy Matt Smith!!!
Happy birthday to our beloved doctor!🎁🎂
As you may have seen, shows are getting cancelled and renewed left right and centre and still Hannibal is missing from the table. I think we need to be louder, more upfront about what we want and we need participation to get it…
PLEASE CONSIDER A SIGNAL BOOST! PLEASE TAKE PART!
So, I am proposing a Summer of Love, basically an Ode to Hannibal!
There are lots of things going on, please take part in what you can and posting about your taking part with #Hannibal and #SaveHannibal in some of what’s below:
FANNIBAL GIFT EXCHANGE - SUMMER 2018 (#FGES2018)
This one you should already know about, Fannibals exchanging gifts, culminating in a mass posting about them on the 29th of August 2018, The Wrath of the Lamb’s birthday. (Sign ups are closed I’m afraid!)
A thunderclap is a pre-organised social media mass posting service. Basically you sign up and the app posts a specific post for you at a specific time, on a specific day. Mass posting out of nowhere on a specific subject is the best way to get you noticed on social media. Unfortunately, the site will no longer let you put hashtags in your post. But please use #SaveHannibal when talking about the project or SIGNAL BOOSTING the link! We’ll need 500 signs up MINIMUM, and it’s a big ask, I could have gone lower but I think we can get 500 easy. If we don’t get 500, the Thunderclap doesn’t happen.
All you need to do is sign up and sit back. The THUNDER reigns down at 7:00pm (EDT) on the 29th of August 2018, The Wrath of the Lamb’s birthday. (Are you sensing a theme?) JOIN THE THUNDER HERE!
SIGNAL BOOST GIVE AWAY
Although tumblr is fab for certain things, twitter is the powerhouse in terms of getting noticed! Retweeting THIS TWEET will enter you into a prize draw for a It’s Beautiful #SaveHannibal flag (1mx0.5m) (T&C’s apply, see twitter for details.)
#HANNIBALSUMMEROFLOVE - Review Party
So, every show gets a bad review, and so I thought, rather than question it, lets just post our own reviews. So between now and the 29th of August 2018, I’ll be posting an in depth review of every episode of Hannibal.
You don’t have to do individual episodes if you don’t want too, they can be seasonal reviews or a review of the show as a whole, a review of the DVD’s/BluRays etc.
Please use the hashtag when posting, please feel free to have some fun with the format, and the best will get a little pack of free badges sent to them. You can post on twitter or tumblr! Please feel free to tag me, and use #HannibalSummerOfLove so I can find them!
FANNIBAL APPRECIATION DAY 2018
Every year since the first airing of the Wrath of the Lamb, on the 23rd of August we’ve celebrated Fannibals! Use this day to send individual fannibals some love, it’s a day to celebrate US! This year personalise your thanks, feel free to post across twitter or tumblr!
#FANNIBALSCHATNETFLIX - 1000 Chat Challenge!
WE POSE A CHALLENGE FOR YOU! We’d like to chat with netflix over 1000 times before the Wrath of the Lamb anniversary, have a bit of a chat, request Hannibal, take a cheeky photo/screenshot, POST WITH THE TAG! And we’ll tally them up and see if we can break the 1000 wall!
#SAVEHANNIBAL MAILING CAMPAIGN
Send Netflix, Hulu and Amazon a little #SaveHannibal business card, sometimes a physical representation of what we’re about works wonders! See the post for full information of exactly how to do this, but feel free to add your own spin on it!
There’s a petition that has been running since the show was cancelled 3 years ago, and it needs a TON more signatures! Please sign and signal boost! Lets get it to 100k!
CHECK OUT MY #SAVEHANNIBAL PAGE FOR THIS STUFF AND MORE YOU CAN DO! I will also make individual posts for the events, and links to these bite size posts will be on the page.
FYI This is what the Fannibal fandom is doing-and think about this, their show got canceled three years ago. They still refuse to give up! Take a look at what they’re doing, it can help us to get some ideas.
SDCC 2018 & Gotham = ???
Today, Warner Brothers Entertainment released information about appearances, panels and signings for San Diego Comic Con 2018. While a small, single mention of Gotham was included upon first release, it has since been removed.
No mention of any panels, autographs or anything else is listed on this site. Fox has not yet given any indication whether or not Gotham will be represented at SDCC 2018 by formal announcement.
As of right now, whether Gotham will have any content, panels or otherwise at SDCC 2018 is unknown.
Update: Fox has announced panels/autographs/representation at SDCC 2018 and it does not include Gotham.
You’d think they’d go all out with this being the final season - a chance for one last promotional push that might generate better ratings and, ultimately, potential interest from other networks or streaming services, but no. Looks like Gotham has been moved to a quiet corner to die.
What sucks the most is this - fans know Gotham itself has a shelf-life, but I was hoping that one last appearance at SDCC might shed some light on any speculated sequels and / or spin-offs etc. Gotham’s exclusion from SDCC suggests to me that there are no such plans afoot and this really is the end.
I’M CRUSHED! I was so looking forward to seeing the cast one final time! Getting to go to the final panels for my favorite shows are a ‘must-do’ for my SDCC weekends. *crying* And no Gotham swag bag either most likely!
You know the cast is going to be upset too! Going to SDCC is an amazing time and RLT has been there from the beginning. The DC night Gotham premiered was AMAZING!
To go from having two Gotham chairs at the WB booth, one being Nygmobblepot, to one year later NOT EVEN GOING!? Gotham really rubbed the wrong people the wrong way to get NOTHING! THIS SUCKS! I’m so upset!
This is a huge slap in the face to Gotham fans. It’s disrespectful to the cast of Gotham, and everyone who works on the show. It’s also showing a profound disrespect for the fans who love Gotham!
However, we don’t have to sit back and take this. Every weekday, fans are getting together on Twitter for the Gotham Power Hour and tweeting in an effort to #SaveGotham
If you haven’t already joined up, please do so! Every fan makes a difference. Every Tweet makes a difference.
@irisbeacon I don’t think this means anything about the possibility of spin-offs or sequels, all it means is that Fox sees no reason to promote Gotham any longer since the show is ending on Fox. Fox didn’t do anything to promote Brooklyn99 or Lucifer, either! Fox threw both of those shows in the trash. Luckily Netflix and NBC realized it was an opportunity for them to gain some amazing shows.
Thanks to everyone who’s been participating in the daily Gotham Power Hour on Twitter! We’ve had a lot of participation! We’re going to take a break on Sunday, then resume on Monday.
If you have questions, comment, or concerns, my inbox is open! If I don’t know the answer, I’ll try to find it for you!
PLEASE REBLOG SHARE AND READ CAREFULLY
In order to be most efficient to save Gotham, we are organizing power hours during which you get to tweet about the show! One hour everyday where you have to show how much you want Gotham to continue. Check the picture for the Hour and put your alarms on!!
Please try to tweet during this hour ONLY because else the tags won’t trend(it’s due to Twitter’s measure system as mentioned in the pictures). The rest of the day, keep the tweeting to a minimum and don’t use the mentioned hashtags. You can use TweetDeck if you’re not available during this hour to schedule as many tweets as you like from as many accounts as you want! It’s totally free and quite helpful 😉 The watch parties on Thursday nights are still on during Gotham timeslot, so 8 P.M. Eastern.
NB: the first power hour happened tonight and it’s was quite good, the number of tweets significantly improved!! If we all keep to the same hour, we’ll get to trending💪
More Season 5 Episodes & More Seasons
More Episodes for Season 5:
The Twitters that hold power or at least have more of a say in how many episodes a series has should be tagged in these tweets, to fully get the message across, or at least cue those running them that this maybe be the start of another fan interest. The twitter accounts suggested for tagging are as follows:
- Fox (@FOXTV)
- DC Comics (@DCComics)
- Warner Brothers Television (@warnerbrostv)
- Main Gotham Twitter (@Gotham)
Using Twitter is the best option to getting fan opinions across, along with one or two hashtags. Only the first three are “counted” towards a Twitter movement Tumblr user @robinllordtaylor made a recent post, suggesting the use of the hashtag #savegotham. The hashtag that also has the most usage when it comes to this subject has been #givegotham22episodes.
More Seasons of Gotham:
Getting across the message that Gotham fans would like it to continue after it has concluded on FOX, on another network or streaming service should be a separate tweet. Again, this is because of hashtag usage, combining too many into one tweet will only result in the first three being “seen” by those tracking such social content. Suggested hashtags are #pickupgotham and #savegotham, or #renewgotham as they have the greatest reach so far, along with being used the most.
Twitters that can be directly tagged in this tweet are as follows, based upon which network or streaming service you prefer, or all:
- Netflix (@Netflix)
- Hulu (@Hulu)
- Amazon Streaming (@AmazonStudios /@PrimeVideo)
- DC Universe Streaming Service (@TheDCUniverse)
- CW (@TheCW)
Also consider once again tagging in the following twitters, as they are also directly involved with Gotham being on air:
- Warner Brothers Television (@warnerbrostv)
- Main Gotham Twitter (@Gotham)
- DC Comics (@DCComics)
Again, please consider the face of the fandom you are putting forth in your tweets when you do this. Tweets that are angry, vindictive, abusive, or hateful will not help this cause. Networks are less likely to add episodes or pick up a show who’s fans are posting malicious (no matter how passionate) messages and tagging them in it. It may in fact, have the opposite effect, making them want to distance themselves from the possibility at all.
Nothing is guaranteed of course, but effort is better than nothing to get the ball rolling and the idea out there that fans would like another full season of Gotham during Season 5, along with more seasons.
Why Gotham Shouldn’t End with Season Five
1. Gotham is fresh take on the Batman mythos. Gotham doesn’t reproduce the comics because that would be boring. Gotham references the comics, but doesn’t mimic them.
2. They have so many more stories to tell! They could go on for a long, long time without running out of fresh material. 10 more episodes isn’t enough.
3. Bruno Heller originally mapped out 7 seasons of Gotham, so we know he had more in mind.
4. David Mazouz is the best Bruce Wayne ever. He’s earned the opportunity to continue to mature into the role of Batman.
5. And then, there are the other actors and actresses, who’ve taken on roles and made the characters their own! I never imagined that anyone could make Oswald Cobblepot come to life the way Robin Lord Taylor has. The rest of the cast is amazing, too.
6. Gotham is the first and only Batman prequel, and it needs time to bring Bruce Wayne up to the point where he becomes Batman. No other endeavor has allowed us to come to know Bruce Wayne so well. After that-the stage is set for Batman, so why not use it? It easily lends itself to a sequel where David and the other actors and actresses reprise their roles.
7. Gotham has created a believable, fully fleshed out version of the city itself as a character. It’s a familiar place now. Gotham exists as its own world, and has the potential to become even more complex and fascinating.
8. Gotham is the first live action small screen Bat-verse show in 50 years. It was a long wait, and there doesn’t seem to be another one waiting in the wings. As a Bat-fan, I want this one to last as long as possible.
9. The Gotham fandom deserves more! There are Gotham fans all over the world who enjoy Gotham and are eager to see more of it.
10. The Bat-verse has no conclusion. Gotham is a creative template with infinite possibilities to explore. Whether they’re explored with more seasons of Gotham or in a Gotham sequel doesn’t matter. Gotham is just getting started!
This is a tweet from a Lucifer fan: “In total, we had almost 10 million tweets in the Lucifer tag. It was five long weeks. Every day, we always had some time for the campaign. Sometimes we spent all night long here. Even without much news, we never lost hope….We have seen that with determination, love, and unity we can be heard.”
