Doc Holligay, the First of Her Name, Queen of the Neptunians and the Uranians and the First Lesbians, Angstlord of the Tumblr HaruMichi Circle, Executioner of the Realm, Khaleesi of the Great Sea of Tears, called Satan, the Fiendish, Mother of Gays. So named by the great Oathkeeper-of-Tarth

Hi, hello, hi.

I do want to say, before I say this, this is not a widespread problem, this is a ‘handful of people’ problem, but I need something to pin atop my dash:

At the end of the day, this is my space, and I can do what I want with it, and...it is, in fact, an extremely unconstitutional monarchy. My rule is law.

You don’t have to like me. You don’t have to like my opinions. You don’t have to like my way of doing things. In fact, I would say there’s a number of people who I would call my friends who do not like items two and three at least SOME of the time.

But. Despite everything. This blog belongs to me. And, while I try to be an engaging person, responsive, friendly, and generous of spirit, at the end of the day, I do not owe you anything in particular. I am a human being, with personality and quirks and likes and dislikes and also, strangely, feelings.

All of this sounds like it was prompted by some weird edgelord take but it seems to be centered around anime and how fast and regularly I answer asks.

More later but I took a little hike today

Holligay Read My Fuckin’ Book You Shitheel--2023

Oh yes, guess who’s back for unlucky book number thirteen!?

For every thirteenth book, I draw from this particular well, which is all books you don’t have to pitch to me. You don’t have to sell me on them! Now, ideally, you still think I would LIKE the book, but I suppose it isn’t strictly necessary, as long as you’re fine with the fact that I might nuke it from orbit.

This is mostly designed for: “I think you would like this book but there is no way in HELL I could ever convince you to read it”

But, like I said, I don’t really have requirements for this one about content! So! Whatever, man!

There ARE rules though, so pay attention:

  • question one actually can be answered in a halfassed way, but try to be honest “Why do you want me to read this?”
  • Yeah I’m gonna ask you to give me a compliment on my writing for question two, it’s like you’ve never even been here. I am that kid telling you about her sparkly shoes and you better pretend to be dazzled.
  • If it’s a manga or visual novel or whatever, you have to be willing to send me a copy. They’re too expensive otherwise, not just being a hater.
  • MUST be available in print.

I think that’s it! I’ll reblog this when we get close to me ordering for this batch, always

Books That Have Pitched Successfully 2023

These are the books that made it through to be drawn when I get to book four! In no order

  • Shattered
  • Broken Harbor
  • The Neverending Story  (Drawn 1/14)
  • Frog Music (Drawn 2/8)
  • Absent in the Spring
  • Horrorstör
  • The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives in Your Home
  • The Knight of the Maison-Rouge
  • Our Wives Under the Sea
  • Babel, Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution (This may be the first time in history I picked a book I think I will not like because the pitch was so intriguing and well-written. Whether it ever pulls or not, I wanted to give a nod. You should write for the backs of books.)
  • Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind  (pitcher said they would send me a copy)
  • She Who Became the Sun
  • Four Treasures of the Sky (drawn 4/15)
  • Great Circle (drawn 5/26)

If your book didn’t make it through on the pitched draw, you can always do the pitchless draw!

Pitch Me: Books edition 2023

This was, I thought, wildly successful last year and made me read a lot of things that are outside of my wheelhouse, while still being something I would enjoy. My literal FAVORITE book from last year came from this, so thank you!

I am doing it again this year! Every fifth book I read will be from this list.

This year, I am trying very very hard to write a little blurb, at least about every NEW book I finish. Ideally it’ll be every book, but the perfect is the enemy of the good.  I did this for about 75% of the books last year, which I am pretty proud of!

What are the guidelines? Pretty loose, actually:

  • On that note, please please please remember that I AM NOT BOUND TO LIKING THE BOOK. It is also MY hope that I will, but if your feelings will be Damaged Forever by me not, or even hating it, let’s not go there.
  • No graphic novels unless you’re willing to send me a copy for free/cost of shipping. They’re just too expensive for the time it takes me to read them.
  • If you pitched last year and it got through but didn’t get drawn, absolutely feel free to pitch again! There’s functionally no reason it won’t get through again and I only clean house in case you’ve lost interest. Here is the list of what pitched successfully last year.
  • I’d PREFER books where I can get a used version, but this isn’t an absolute.
  • The book MUST be available in print. I don’t enjoy reading from a screen and I won’t do it.
  • If it’s a trilogy/cycle/whatever, I’m only committing to the first book if drawn.
  • There is nothing I have to be warned for. I’ll be fine.
  • I’m happy to answer any questions!
  • That’s….pretty much it. No limits on word count, but try not to spoil the whole thing for me, of course.

How I am going to do this:

Any pitch that sounds good will get put into my Next Book List

When book five comes up, I’ll hit the randomizer! Whichever gets drawn, will be my Crowdsourced Book.

I’ll reblog this when I’m on Book Four, every time.

I am coming up VERY FAST on the next one, so get any additonal in!

You have the schedule for this week?

Posted yesterday!

My peony bloomed!! I didn't expect it to in its first year at all

Schedule:

@skylineofspace is coming to visit! We're going to Glacier and then doing that wild ass 24 hour run

So I'll be around! But not anything formal.

Patrons: Utena stream is at 7 pm mountain

Please look at me and my wife at the shrek rave

Went for 'Victorian Frog' and came out with 'lesbian lost boy' but I leaned into it

No exaggeration, this is the greatest event promo poster I have ever seen.

I love where we live

So this venue is, I shit you not, the old bus station, and this is their COMPLETE copy for this event

GUESS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO TONIGHT

my family will play it much cooler, but I'm leaning into "who cares. Cool is dead." And my look for the night is "gentleman swamp Frog from the wind and the willows." (Club version)

I LIED ABOUT BEING THE ONLY ONE COMMITTING MY WIFE IS WEARING HER CATERPILLAR COSTUME FROM PURIM

After some tweaking for heat and logistics: I will be doing "Dockworker swamp Frog from Wind in the Willows" (club edition)

No exaggeration, this is the greatest event promo poster I have ever seen.
