Mom Frank’s writing micro horror again

Oh god

When she was in her late teens to early 20s, Frank read a book called The Shining.

In it, one character, Jack Torrance, has a sleep paralysis episode where he is haunted by a “little chihuahua that keeps barking in his sleep, and is never far from his waking thoughts.” Jack Torrance’s wife believes that Jack, in his sleep paralysis episode, “might become unhinged.”

Frank really wanted to believe that story, and it had a huge influence on her. She spent much of the time that she was trying to write Welcome to Night Vale, dreaming up scenarios where Cecil was haunted by “the little chihuahua that kept barking in his sleep” and “never far from his waking thoughts.”
