Why do you think Simon said "I gotta go" and left when Wille first started talking to him at the party in Episode 1? Did he just not wanna talk to Wille or was he shy? I think about this scene way too much.

I love this scene. I love the ‘i’m nervous when i’m around you’ atmosphere of this scene.

It’s their second time interacting and the first being this close to one another, so they’re clearly embarrassed and it shows: they barely talk but their body language and ‘awkwardness’ say a lot. I feel like there are kinda flirting vibes going on here too, in the way they hardly can keep their eyes off of each other, in search of whatever sign or next move.

I think simon’s “i gotta go” has nothing to do with him not wanting to talk to wille, but it comes from his mixed feelings instead: he is nervous and can’t help it, so leaving is definitely the easiest way out of it, but the look on his face, the lip bite and the little smile right before walking away tell me that he also hoped, as much as we did, for wilhelm to follow him and for their evening to not end yet. In fact, he soon took his words back and stayed when wille asked him to. because they wanted the same thing after all.

THIS moment always gets me. It is the first thing that has ever happened between them that can not be misinterpreted. The first blatantly sexual gesture they have ever made towards each other. There is a moment of hesitation and then Wilhelm gets on top of him and Simon immediately opens his legs to make room for him. They fall into their dynamic so easily and this is the first time we (and they) see it: Simon is underneath him, watching him carefully and Wilhelm is looking down at him, not breaking eye contact as they position themselves. Imagine how fast their hearts would’ve been beating in this moment…

Wilhelm's grief

Creating content for the Levok2 project, has made me reflect on some things.

As I've been forced to try to put myself into the state of mind of the characters, when coming up with texts, it hit me how fast we've been to dismiss Wilhelm's grief.

I think the reason for that, is that we see him grief, we see him hit rock bottom, and we see him happy again on the other side... Until other unfortunate events happen, that kind of puts Wilhelm in another shitty mental state, that is not related to his loss. We see his grief peak out a little again, when he talks about needing Erik after the video leak, but that's kind of it.

Grief in media is often portrayed as a straight line. We see a classic act of grief, with anger, tears or depression. And then when they are finally able to be themself again - to laugh and smile, we consider the grief to be over, and we have moved on. But grief is not like that!

Grief comes in waves. You can cry one day, and then laugh the next day. And then on the third or 50th day you can crumble up in a meltdown again. It's not a straight line. Sometimes it's two steps forward, and sometimes it's five steps backwards. And people grieving often feel bad about laughing shortly after a loss, because they are suppose to still be in a state of grief. But that state is complex, and it's okay to be happy one moment and sad the next. And people need to understand that just because you are happy and laugh, doesn't mean they have moved on.

I really wish we could see more of Wilhelm's grief process in season 2. It doesn't have to be part of the plot line, but their ability to add moments that didn't have the purpose of pushing the plot in season 1, makes me think they should be able to do the same in season 2.

Give Wilhelm a moment where we see him being drowned in grief again. Where he misses Erik for no other reason than he just does. Show that Wilhelm hasn't moved on. He is still grieving and even though he is able to laugh and love again, doesn't mean that he doesn't get hit by breakdowns or sleepless nights. It has only been a few months, and we need to see that grief is not a simple phase.

August having to jog next to a walking Simon, even though he has the longest legs in town, is the gay realism I'm here for 😂😭

Even the shift in power dynamics between Wilhelm and Simon is so well done that I can't help but talk about it.

At first Simon is the confident one. He is out and proud guy and knows who he is. So he is the one to ask Wilhelm to come to Rosh's soccer match and he is the one who initiates their first kiss. Whereas Wilhelm is shy and stammering and he literally trips over is own feet because he is busy watching Simon.

But after they have sex their relationship dynamics changes and Wilhelm becomes the more confident one because now he knows what he wants or rather who he wants (Simon). Now he is the one pulling Simon back in the woods to share a sneaky kiss. While Simon can't even name his fishes without stuttering.

The shift is masterfully done that it makes me want to scream in elation. I love that I can pull out any scene from Young Royals and find a deeper meaning.

i’m thinking about wilhelm today. about how he followed felice to make sure she was okay at the parent’s lunch even though they weren’t friends. about how even in the wake of his brother’s death he was kind, and gentle, and offered felice his coat because she was cold. about how he looks at simon with such reverence when they’re together, like he can’t believe that simon wants to be with him. about him making simon a sandwich for breakfast and wrapping it with so much care, and getting grumpy when he couldn’t immediately give it to him. about “i’m not supposed to speak on political matters” and “sorry, i’m not - fuck, i’m not-“ and “i want you to hold me.”

i’m especially thinking about how much he craves touch, and love, and affection. about how he melted into that hug with the headmistress because the one thing he needed at that time was physical affection and his own mother couldn’t, or wouldn’t, give it to him. how he has panic attacks, and rubs his chest, and spreads his arms wide because someone must have told him it helps. how being with simon was the one thing he felt he had some semblance of control over, and how that control was ripped from him in the cruelest of ways.

i’m thinking about how strong and how brave he is to give a speech to his peers after his brother’s death. about how he said “it feels so wrong that i’m the one still here, instead of him.” about how much he struggles and agonises over his love for simon because loving simon feels as easy as breathing, but the weight and the pressure of the life he is being forced to lead never eases. about how he probably doesn’t think that he’s worthy of simon’s love, and how losing him was almost unbearable.

there’s something about how he extends kindness to everyone he meets. about how he sees the way simon stands up for himself and for others and falls in love with that fire, that defiance. how he tried to give simon advice with his studies. how he went out of his way to sit with simme at the parent’s lunch, made sure simon’s mum was comfortable. how he said simon was singing from his heart. how he holds himself and rubs his hands up and down his arms because he’s always subconsciously looking for physical contact to steady him.

he’s strong, but there’s a softness to him that remains untouched by all of the pain he’s been through. i hope he doesn’t lose that softness.
