31% of black renters are facing eviction as the CDCs eviction moratorium is being overturned. 31% of black renters are behind on their rent in stark contrast with only 12% of white renters being behind on their rent and facing eviction if the DOJ doesn’t maintain this hold. This is what structural racism looks like.

Speaking of which, the number one thing that I get asked for help with when applying to our Black Covid Relief Fund is for help with Rent. These are often big numbers.

We’re doing a pull tomorrow if you wanna donate.

Turns out...the entire conception of Private Property inherently leads the owners thereof to destructive ends regardless of their intentions

Some dude should write a book about that then die of ass warts

I really hate to ask but I have very few summer clothes and a good deal of my wardrobe is leftover from high school and I have been gradually outgrowing it. Even most of my wardrobe that fits I feel extremely uncomfortable in because when I was in high school I felt so ashamed of my body and my clothing really reflected that. As I’ve been getting rid of what I don’t want and what no longer fits me I often don’t even have clothes I hate because they’re some of the few that fit me. I have virtually no shirts that I can wear in the 90 degree weather we’ve been having.

Usually I would be buying stuff from thrift stores or other cheaper places but with COVID19 that isn’t an option for me, especially not with my state’s (Ohio) lazy approach to the virus. Most people living here are not wearing masks and won’t even maintain 6 ft distance from you.

If you donate 10 dollars or more I’ll do a little sketch for you of whatever you want (provided it isn’t creepy lmao). I don’t have many examples of my work yet but what I do have can be found here

My cashapp is $mismedusa

For anyone looking in the notes here’s a drawing I did for someone who donated!

So lemme get this straight

They’re telling me how many kids they think will potentially die based on corona statistics where children were not going to school during any of the heights of corona because it wasn’t safe … and now we’re at levels worse than we’ve ever seen …

and then they want to say it wont overwhelm hospitals that’re already overwhelmed to a point where people with chronic severe illnesses, pregnant people, etc. are dying because they can’t gain access to legitimate medical care.

And they want to cut federal funding to schools who don’t open, schools that are primarily funded by the value of the property around the school … meaning the richer the area the longer the school can stay closed … meaning the poorer schools have to open

meaning they’re forcing open schools who can’t afford paper and printer ink and sending them there with no real protection, no real PPE for teachers, students, or staff, schools that can’t even afford clean drinking water for their children …

And they think these kids wont get sick en masse, get their parents sick en masse, get the schools staff sick en masse, in areas where again the hospitals are already overwhelmed to a point where disabled people, people with chronic illnesses, and people who need their health monitored are already dying en masse and they want to throw more corona cases at the fire

And they don’t want me to call that genocide?

This is genocide by biological warfare, it’s not that fucking hard to see.

Help a gay trans latinx couple and their dog out.

A bill hit our account this morning and put us $200 in the negative and an overdraft fee will be tacked onto that if we don’t cover it within the next few hours. Rent is due in a week. We need money for our dog’s vaccine, food, and gas. We’ve been applying to jobs with no luck as of yet. If any of you has any money to spare or you know people who would be willing to help, please reach out.

grace was put on probation because of charges of assault and theft for “biting her mother’s finger and pulling her hair” and stealing another student’s mobile phone which she later returned. she expressed remorse at her actions multiple times afterwards and participated in therapy sessions and completely stayed out of trouble, her mother and teacher said that she was doing well at school despite the switch to online classes which caused her to become distracted due to her ADHD. she couldn’t keep up with her homework and her caseworker filed a violation of probabtion against her without bothering to learn about her disabilty or academic performance. the judge ellen brennan called her a “threat to the community”. all because she didn’t complete her fucking homework. she’s been in the juvenile detention centre for over a month now.

UPDATE:

Grace’s case has been dissmissed and her next one is not until SEPTEMBER!!!! THIS IS NOT OKAY! She is a 15 year old girl!

Her family has opened up a gofundme to pay for legal expenses! Please considering donating and/or signal boosting this! Please still sign the petition and check the resources at the bottom of the change.org page on who to contact to help her case!

On this day last year 23-year-old Korryn Gaines was killed by Baltimore County police and her 5-year-old son was shot in the limb.

She was wanted for a traffic violation, but apparently a SWAT team thought she was way too dangerous for them to try and arrest her without fatally shooting her.

I still think about Korryn a lot.

Let me tell you about my panda mini-washer

As an apartment dweller, this is a game changer. My current apartment doesn’t have a laundry facility and the closest Laundromat about a 30 min bus ride which is just not practical. The mini-washer is a life saver

The panda mini washer hooks up to the sink, is incredibly lightweight (about 28 pounds, so light even I can lift it) and easy to use.

It has a surprisingly large capacity. The basket from the first picture represents about one and a half loads. The jeans took up a whole load while the rest filled the bin only half way.

Here’s the inside. The left is the washer the right is the spin dryer. Yes, it even drys.

Basically you shove your cloths into the washer, fill it up with water and let it go. I use my shower head to fill it up so it goes faster, the sink hook up took about five minutes to fill the whole tub, with the shower head is is down to a minute an a half. I do it in three wash cycles, a five minute rinse with baking soda, a five minute wash with soap and a three minute rinse with water. You have to drain and refill between each cycle so it’s a little more labor intensive than a traditional washer.

That’s the spin dryer. It’s about half the capacity of the washer so one wash takes about two loads to dry. The spinner is much more effective than I was expecting. A three minute spin gets my cloths about 90% dry. I hang them up to air dry for that last 10%.

The machine cost me about 150$. When you factor in two dollars for the bus, five for the machines (per week), the mini-washer pays for its self after only about six months worth of laundry.

I’m not great at expressing emotion, but I’m hoping you can tell how excited I am.  Let me just say that the panda mini-washer is great and I highly recommend it to anyone currently using a Laundromat.

Read this and immediately bought it on Amazon for $180. I spend $15 a week to have my laundry done so this pays for itself in 3 months for me. THANK YOU JESUS.

@ all my nyc pendejas

Oh by the way, they have table top dishwashers that are pretty much the same thing:

This is one of the biggest technological breakthroughs for the everyday homeowner in the current decade: the realization that refrigerators aren’t the only things that can be miniaturized for better affordability and minimal space requirements.

Can you IMAGINE how this is going to change the lives of college students and apartment-dwellers? Or anyone with a lower income who can’t afford a place with “luxury” appliances like dishwashers and laundry machines?

There’s an even cheaper option called the Wonder Wash where you tumble the thing yourself and you’ll have to line-dry the clothes, but it apparently works very well.

As an apartment dweller, I want to spread this.

But please, I beg of you, find out what water pressure your chosen outlet gives vs. what your washer can hold, and make sure it closes with a tight, waterproof seal. Don’t be my upstairs neighbor who has at last count flooded us five times.

All of Riot Rib’s grills were ruined last night! If you don’t know who they are, they’ve been providing free food for protesters and homeless people in Portland! The cops have been purposely targeting them over and over and over and they need support!

they also recently had their medical tent targeted, and the pigs pepper sprayed all of the exposed medical supplies, ruining them. if you didn’t know, targeting medics is a war crime.

riotribs is out on the front lines 24/7. one of their cooks recently was targeted by the feds, resulting in their ribs being broken - and they returned that same night to continue cooking for the people.

PLEASE donate to riotribs, they’re an incredible group of folks who are doing much needed work to support and protect the protesters in pdx right now, and they’re being targeted for it.

every day i find new ways to loathe white western vegans who willingly remain ignorant of indigenous cultivation and culinary traditions

like, in southern mexico, the maya have been tending honey bees for thousands of years. it is part of tradition, nutrition, and cultural endurance. meanwhile, the white vegan demands to use agave nectar as an alternative. but agave nectar, which comes from the desert plant the agave, requires an absurd amount of water to grow in order to meet the rising demands for this honey alternative. so not only does the white western vegan participate in an unnessary usage of precious desert water, which they pretend to care so deeply about when they somewhat correctly critique the meat and dairy industry, they are also diverting water from communities (to a growing form of industrial agriculture) and ignoring the cultural value of a foodstuff, honey, that has been sustainable for thousands of years in the hands of indigenous central americans (among others).

Didn’t white western vegans also make quinoa so expensive that the indigenous people who were cultivating it for thousands of years couldn’t afford it?

the demand for quinoa from peru did increase and as a result indigenous peoples and local farmers there also had to increase their productivity exponentially.

“The price of quinoa in Peru rose more than 500% between 2005 and 2014, while production grew from 32,590 to 114,725 tonnes in the same period, according to Peru's ministry of agriculture.” (Livingstone, 2018)

Avatar

Yeah sure because only white vegans eat quinoa and agave syrup, right?

Avatar

No, but when something becomes popular with specifically WHITE people (esp if they're rich), then it becomes considered more "valuable" and therefore more expensive on the grounds that white people like it. The same thing happened with Lobster and Ribs. So it doesn't matter if only white people eat quinoa, because it's when a lot of them DO that suddenly change things because of capitalism and environmental racism.

Avatar

Yes I'm a (Black) vegan and I hate how primarily white vegans think everything is cut and dry. They get mad at bee leepers and then drink almondmilk and eat avocados. If you don't eat local stfu about how beekeeping is harmful. Beekeepers loving and taking care of their bees is better for the environment than only eating a bunch of pesticide sprayed fruits and vegetables from Brazil on unsustainable farms. How you impact the earth itself also impacts the animals you want to protect.

And they steal everything from other cultures, depleting all the resources. It's either harvested inhumanely or a staple in that community being ripped away from them.
