mel, saf, or valentine, they/them, 24. queer poly enby lesbian and exhausted architectual designer. i have a master's in architecture and a minor in art. "SEK (sewer evil king) seeks YEM (young evil monsters). must be into: world conquest, punk music. positive attitude a plus."

Ninth was my name,” said the new arrival. “Ninth was my hearth, and my homeland. Here have I come at your calling. None may return from the River unless he be bidden by blood-rite; tell me, why have I been drawn here?

when i read gideon the ninth the first time id been putting it off for ages bc everyone just kept telling me it was about lesbians and thats why i should read it. and its like. man. we've gotten to the point where, while absolutely there is still an astounding lack of lesbian positive literature, theres enough where im not desperate to read something just becasuse it has lesbians in it. i have options.

and i think what got me first (there was lots later, but first) was that while its a lesbian book it isnt a book written for the sake of having lesbians. the fact that the people are queer is intrinsic to the story and their characterizations, but its not a book you read because the characters are gay. every person recommending the locked tomb series with "lesbian necromancers in space" is missing the point.

im just so sick of being told i need to consume a media on the sole basis that its queer. its actually actively put me off from some media forever because ive gotten so fed up. ill never watch she-ra, ill never finish stranger things (actually that ones also just bad but), and if one more person tells me i need to watch utena just because its gay ill never pick it back up again (i didn't love it when i first tried it but i always meant to come back again). its just - cmon. i love a shallow fun queer story as much as the next person but, like,

anyway thats the first thing that got me to love gideon im very very tired

ok i DON'T think the tower princes actually had sex, nor do i want them to, but i DO find them conceptually hilarious as a sexual dynamic. like. what if your rebound girl accidentally said the wrong name during sex. but you couldn't be too mad about it because you did too. also both of you said the same name. because you are rebounding from the same girl. who neither of you actually dated. what would you do.

thinking about nona the ninth again. thinking about how i might need to reread gideon and harrow both. it is simply that they are so good and i love them and pyrrha lives in my brain rent free (in fact im offering HER rent money)

My friend shocked me yesterday by saying she didn't learn to swim until she was 11 because she grew up in a landlocked state and in an area where pools weren't common either. For the purposes of this poll, let's say being able to swim counts as you being able to jump into deep water (pool, lake, river, whatever) and easily get out to dry land on your own.

And of course, if you learned later in life, I'd love it if you added why in the tags.

wanna go on a date not for the DATE but so i can dress up fancy and someone can spend way too much money on me in food and alcohol and flowers #gayrights
