Dril, on twitter a couple of months ago, said that he would block every single user with a blue checkmark. people on bluesky, a website that is not twitter, have said that this is bad because content creators and sex workers sometimes buy blue checks on twitter to advertise their content. that’s literally the entire thing leading up to these posts
I don’t get it, man. why. why do we have to homogenize everything. why does every product have to look and behave and feel the exact same way. why can’t tumblr maintain its individuality? why can’t it lean into the things that make it a unique and refreshing offering instead of scrambling to make it a carbon copy of twitter? sucks, man. sucks.
it’s just like. this broadcasts loud and clear that the people behind the curtain have no pride or faith in this site at all. that tumblr, as a whole, has no worth or merit unless it’s somehow tricking the larger internet community into thinking it’s actually another site. and the users are supposed to celebrate this? where’s the dignity? where’s the self-respect? where’s the joy? it’s disheartening and embarrassing to be forced to conform. smh.

I think it’s funny that ppl don’t like game sonic for not being flawed enough when game shadow is very flawed and they can’t stand it when he is 💀 he’s canonically labeled as a green horn, something they like to see in sonic, and they can’t stand it when shadow is when it makes sense considering sonic has more experience than shadow in the first place.

but yeah ive been thinking abt this post and its so true bc its like people want to justify shadows mean and callous attitude by having him match up to the "rude but smart and wise etc bc of what theyve gone through so they get to be rude to the more inexperienced funny guy" trope. but that is entirely disregarding canon and his and sonics established characters
putting sonic under the classic mc label of "fun loving protag who still has a lot to learn" to make him bounce off of shadows "stoic lancer character who has seen it all" is so incorrect, for both of them. sonic is way, way more experienced than shadow in a lot of things, but most importantly to me hes more experienced in life itself. he travels around a lot, he sees a lot of different places and people, and he makes lots of friends and connections with those people who then share their stories with him, and his worldview expands bc of it. it doesnt change him, per se, bc one of the values that sonic and shadow both share is that they do their own things the way they want, but it does reinforce his way of thinking; that people are worth it. that life and relationships are worth it and so he'll never give up in making sure everyone gets to live the ways they want to
and obviously hes been fighting eggman and other bad guys and going on adventures for a lot longer than shadow has lmfao
meanwhile shadow is a guy who suffered extreme trauma after who knows how long he was on the ark for (which was isolated from the rest of the world) and then was in stasis for 50 years. and now even on earth, alive, he remains distant from everyone, even people you would assume he would be close to (rouge and omega). he doesnt like humans either, so he absolutely doesnt get the same array of interactions on the same basis as sonic does, and as a result he stays in his head, stays self reliant and is as steadfast in his beliefs as sonic is with his own. he remains stagnant in his mindset, much like sonic, except in an exactly opposite way; he fights because he chooses to want to. not for humanity or maria or anyone else, but because (due in part to his own past) he thinks its shitty for anyone to impose their will on other people
i think i got lost in the sauce but my main point is that sonic is more likely to come up with a reliable plan of action than shadow is. i think ppl tend to forget that shadow is as impulsive and brash as sonic, and that often leads him into trouble specifically because of that green horn label; hes not as well versed in the ways people act as sonic is, who has been messing with eggman and getting to know locals for his whole life. shadow is not a perfectly calculating machine who is above it all and knows everything like fanon enjoys making him out to be a lot of the time. hes a guy with a strict mindset and tunnel-vision determination that often makes him reckless.
all this to say ITS OKAY FOR SHADOW TO HAVE CHARACTER FLAWS, DAMN. ITS WHAT MAKES HIM INTERESTING. and let him be mean but not bc its somehow justified by a trope that doesnt actually fit him. my mans been through shit. plus sometimes characters are just naturally mean and i think its good and funny

That's not what I searched for, youtube. I typed in a search query because I wanted to see search results, not random unrelated garbage you have placed in my way apparently to either inconvenience me or force me to scroll further for actual results. I despise your wretched little games and every time I see it I can only instantly close the tab as I am overcome with the urge to burn something down.

They also refuse to actually show the parameters you searched for. If you sort by “upload date,” the first few videos might be more recent ones by upload date, but anything past that you’ll find a video that was uploaded five years ago, then five months ago, then three years ago, etc, which—NO! That’s NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!! PUT THEM IN ORDER!!!
Also sometimes the “people also watched” bullcrap will not only be entirely unrelated, it will also be videos with violent, sometimes outright triggering thumbnails. I’ve gotten some AWFUL unrelated video thumbnails just when searching for video game music videos.

There’s a promotional blackout for members and non-members on work covered in TV/theatrical/streaming contracts (check the ‘Where can I read the rules?’ section). There’s even a specific bit of FAQ on the strike site about influencers not posting about struck productions as fans. But this is all for people in situations where doing this kind of promo is either part of adjacent to their job. Which, as this is site is famously not an easy place to make money however you may try to do it, is not quite relevant to the majority of us here.
If you don’t want to talk about any struck productions or companies on your own blog, even engaging as a fan, that’s fine. But if you wanted to, you wouldn’t be doing anything wrong per the strike order.
I’m not saying it doesn’t feel icky for some people. If it feels icky, don’t do it. I’m still not going to reblog from the official [redacted] movie blog, cause, no thank you.
But part of why the unions are not calling for a consumer boycott is that it’s important for the execs to feel the squeeze. There has to be demand while there is material, so that its absence will be felt when that material runs out. Not only can consumers see new material despite the strike, they can talk about it, too. Talking about it isn’t the same as promoting it, especially if you’re not being paid to (or wouldn’t in non-strike circumstances be getting paid to, like influencers posting as fans).
Social media definitely blurs some lines when it comes to promotion, and what promotion means. But a person who isn’t and has never been paid for what they put on social media posting a picture of themself in front of a movie poster is not going to hurt the strike.
This is all as of 19 July, 2023. Instructions may change. But for now, I think it’s still okay to do fandom things on the fandom site.

if someone does fandom shit for the merch movie I think they’re a rube but whatever. if they actively work for the merch movie, producing promotional material featuring striking actors who have made it clear they’re withdrawing their labour (specifically over the fact that studios abuse the rights they hold to actors’ likenesses!) I think they’re amoral mercenary scum and should be treated accordingly. in that context sharing their posts isn’t scabbing or violating a boycott but it is deeply pathetic and speaks to an utterly toothless aesthetic pretense of solidarity.
both sag-aftra and wga have stated that non-union members already under contract are obligated to fulfill their contracted work. marketers are not performers or screenwriters and their contracts are not covered by the union. you’re allowed to dislike them, whatever, but making promotional content as part of their job using previously filmed content is not scabbing.
please read what the unions have written before deciding what is and isn’t part of the strike. spreading misinformation hurts the cause.
