you’d been by neteyams side longer than either of you could remember. you both understood each other in a way no one else did, gravitating towards each other no matter what the circumstances. this fact was the undeniable cause as to why you both ended up so infatuated with each other as teens. of course this infatuation led to a romance between you and the sully boy, which brought you to your current relationship status. it was irrefutable that you and your boyfriend were in love with each other and you both made it evident that your love was indescribably strong, much to the dismay of other na’vi your age in the village.

Pain.
Pure pain is what you felt as you watched your home getting destroyed by the sky people, the people you care for and love being killed. You didn’t deserve this. None of you deserved this. And yet, this is what you get.
You were nothing but a bystander, watching from miles away as your people fought. You felt guilt pile in your stomach, you wished you could find the courage to go and help, but you found yourself glued to the spot. There were swarms of bullets going in every direction, you were bound to die immediately. Tears streamed down your cheeks as you watched, feeling useless.
An explosion sounded out not that far away, and your eyes snapped in that direction. You waited a moment to see if anyone else had been attracted to it, but it seemed that everybody was far too preoccupied with the battle.
You sighed and began sprinting to where the explosion came from. Maybe you can’t kill all of them, but at least you could kill one. Maybe then you wouldn’t feel as shitty.
You rushed over and saw a machine that the sky people used to fly in flames. You grabbed your bow and gripped it tightly, ready to shoot at any given moment. You waited for any sign of life.
Nothing.
You sighed and realised that you still couldn’t do anything. Lowering your bow hesitantly, you turned to walk away when a cough sounded from the machine. A sky woman began to weakly clamber out, bleeding from her hip and head. You watched in slight curiosity as you watched her quickly put a mask on a breathe deeply.
You swiftly remembered what your initial intention was, and your bow returned to being held high. You hissed at her and her head snapped in your direction.
“Shit— no harm, I bring no harm! I’m on— I’m on your side!” She begged for mercy, crawling backwards as you slowly stalked towards her. You only hissed again and pulled back your arrow, ready to kill her. “Fuck—Sully— Jake Sully!”
You momentarily paused your actions, hearing the name of the newly-appointed Omaticaya. But he was recently proved to be a fraud, with stereotypical sky people intention. You growled quietly as you resumed pulling back your bow. “Please don’t! I want no business with the other bastards that are trying to take your planet, okay? I’m just— I’m takin’ ‘em down. Was shooting them from my helicopter here, that’s… yeah, destroyed. But— I’m helping you guys, okay? Not them. And— wait, can you even understand me right now?”
You frowned at her rambling and rolled your eyes. “Skxawng. How do I know I can trust you, demon?” You bared your teeth and watched as her eyes slightly widened in slight shock before gulping and shaking her head.
“Look— I just.. you don’t need to trust me, okay? Just— I don’t know, keep me captive or whatever. I wont do anything to harm you, I swear, but don’t kill me. Just.. if you really want, tie me up or something and keep me close to you…” She practically begged.
You contemplated in silence. On one hand, you’d be saving your pride by killing her. On the other, well… murder wasn’t really your forte. You took slight pity on the girl, and that was enough for you.
You sighed and groaned before putting your bow back on your behind. “Fine. Come with me, demon.”
She scrambled to her feet and watched cautiously as you turned and made a sound similar to a bird call.
She nearly fell back onto the ground when a dragon-like creature flew down from the clouds.
“Sänrr..” You gently whispered as you patted your Ikran’s cheek. Her name meant ‘glow’, for her eyes glowed a dark purple in the dark. “Do not look her in the eye, demon. You will suffer much pain.”
From your peripheral vision, you watched the woman swiftly turn her head. You tutted and climbed onto Sänrr and created tsaheylu. She watched you like a lost puppy, not really knowing what to do with herself.
“What are you waiting for, skxawng?!” You impatiently asked and she quickly climbed on top behind you. When Sänrr took off slowly at first, she gripped your waist tightly, looking down at the floor with anxiety. Of course, she flew helicopters, but this was an unstable animal. She wasn’t exactly comfortable with that.
“I don’t know whatever you keep calling me, but I’m sure as hell it ain’t good so… the name’s Trudy. What’s yours?” She slightly shouted.
You tutted. “Srung, Eywa… I am (____) te—… (____).” You replied with a sigh. You flew down to a clearing where there were minimal bodies and no current attackers.
When you disconnected the bond and slunk back onto the ground, you watched as she looked around in complete awe of the forest.
You smiled amusedly before quickly remembering her species and letting the smile drop. What were you going to do?
It had been a few years since the war. Jake Sully had redeemed himself as Toruk Makto, and him and Neytiri had given birth to their first son Neteyam.
Trudy’s and your friendship had grown significantly, you were now very patient with her and more kind. But it seemed that after all these years, she still couldn’t learn your language.
“Very good. Now, what is moon?” You asked.
“Uh.. oare.” She replied uncertain.
“Síltsan! Can you remember the longer version?”
“Uh…” she trailed off as she blew a raspberry. You sighed.
“Eywa’eveng, Trudy. I suppose we can leave it now for the day, have done well. I am proud.”
She flashed a warm smile at you and your heart slightly melted and your face heated up. It had been this way for a while now, you felt to Trudy as you would with a mate. You knew it was wrong. She was a sky person, although trusted, still.
As she stood to head back to the Sky Person camp, you sighed and caught her shoulder before she left. She turned in confusion.
You felt your mouth go dry. Your emotions had suddenly gotten the better of you and you stopped her without thinking. Now, you didn’t know what to say. You needed to get your feelings off of your chest, but how?… Wait.
“Oel ngati kameie, Trudy.”
A confused smile overtook her features. “What did you say?”
“I said that.. I am proud of you.”
“Yeah, you’ve said that. Well, I’ll see you tomorrow. Gonna hit the sack, I’m exhausted. See you later, yeah?”
You nodded and smiled softly as you watched her walk away into the jungle.
You sighed and made your way back to your camp.
You shouldn’t feel this way. Not for a Sky Person, and especially not a woman, for then you couldn’t reproduce. That was your whole purpose… or, so you’re told.
But why did it feel so right? Every lingering touch, every stare, every smile.. could Trudy possibly feel the same?
It was unlikely.
Truth is, Trudy didn’t feel the same way. Well, not at first. At first, she was petrified of you, to be honest. Then, when your friendship grew very, very slowly, she started to warm up to you and trust you. But she didn’t think she liked girls that way, that she was completely straight.
That all changed when you won the war, and she saw you in your true element. After losing so many of your people, you managed to overcome the fear and fight. She watched as you brutally took out those intending to hurt you, and god, you looked heavenly.
That’s when she began to realise how much she truly cared for you, more than platonically. She began to notice the smallest things about you, how your eyes turn down when you’re nervous or upset, how your tail shifts when angry or happy, how you rapidly blink when surprised, and how your eyes lit up when you saw her.
She knew that the chances were slim to none that you’d reciprocate her feelings, but those glances you constantly steal, your gulp whenever she shows up, she hoped that maybe you’d actually like her back.
When she got her avatar made and didn’t have to crane her neck to look up at you, it only made her fall more. Seeing you from a new angle, your beauty was breathtaking. She could finally come to terms with her feelings.
Something told her that the thing you said didn’t mean ‘I’m proud of you’, because you’d already taught her what that was.
Her mind stayed on that phrase for so long, she remembered the exact pronunciation. Which was good, because in her sight came Norm.
“Norman! Gotta talk to you.” She panted from slightly jogging to the lab.
“What? I’m busy.” He dismissively spoke, not moving his eyes from the thing he was working on.
“Yeah, I don’t care. Uh, can I ask you something?”
He sighed knowing she wouldn’t let up. “You just did. What is it?”
“Err, what does oel ngati kameie mean?” She somewhat reluctantly asked.
“Seriously? I thought (____) was teaching you the language.. whatever, it means ‘I see you’.” He sighed.
She narrowed her eyes in confusion as to why you’d lie to her about such a small thing, and what ‘I see you’ even meant. “But—”
“Look Trudy I gotta do this work, alright? Just… I don’t know, buzz off.” He rolled his eyes and turned back to his project. Trudy scoffed and walked away, still pondering.
That night, Trudy lay in bed thinking. “I see you… I see you? But.. I know she sees me,” She groaned and turned over. “Makes no damn sense…”
She thought for hours, when suddenly a memory popped in her head.
“I see you. It’s not just you’re in front of me and I see you in my sight, it’s I see into you. Into your soul. It’s basically them saying they love you.” Norm explained.
Trudy dramatically gasped and sat up in her bed. She looked around and made sure no one was awake, before sneaking out to go and find you.
Could it be true? Did you actually love her back? She was desperate for answers. She needed to know if you felt the same way.
It wasn’t hard to find your camp as she knew the way off by heart, and the dark did nothing to slow her thanks to the bioluminescence of the forest.
When she arrived, she immediately went to find your hammock, careful not to wake any of the Na’vi. When she finally reached you, she let out a breath of relief as she took in your peaceful state.
After snapping out of her trance, she gently shook you awake. When your eyes drifted open, you were about to let out a yelp of surprise when she covered your mouth and placed her index finger over her lips. When she knew you’d calmed down, she dragged your sleepy self out of the camp and somewhere more private.
Although butterflies swarmed your stomach, you still wanted answers as to why you were woken up at such a late hour and what she needed.
Once you both came to a stop you slapped her gently across the head. “Skxawng! I was sleeping, what is it that you want?!”
“Ow, Jesus!” She yelped as she held her head.
“I do not know this Jesus you mention.”
She sighed and shook her head in slight annoyance, before breathing heavily. “I— uh.. I was thinking about what you said earlier…”
Your face twisted in confusion as you listened to her.
“Y—You said.. oel ngati kameie, and you said that it means proud. Of me. But, that can’t be because ‘Lenrra’ means that, so… I found out what it meant, and it means ‘I see you’. Norm explained to me what that meant and I— I wanted to know if it’s true,” She gulped. “If that’s how you truly feel.”
Your eyes widened before you began to breathe heavily. Shit! She wasn’t meant to find out. Oh Eywa, why?
“Trudy…” You breathed slowly. “I.. I’m so sorry. I did not mean to have these feelings for you, I— I did not wish for you to find out this way— or any way! It is okay if you do not feel the same.”
She smiled at you and held your face with both hands. “Who said I didn’t feel the same way?”
Your saddened eyes lit up in a mix of shock and happiness. “You are saying… you love me too?”
She let out a breathy chuckle and nodded eagerly. “Yeah! I mean, God, was it not obvious?”
“Who is God?”
“Eywa, I meant Eywa. Anyway, uh… I don’t really know what to do next.” She nervously chuckled.
You placed your left hand on her cheek and glanced down at her lips, softly licking your own. “I may have an idea.” You spoke quietly as you leaned in.
Her smile faded as she leaned in also and her lips ghosted yours.
You sucked in a nervous breath before taking the first love and colliding your lips with hers. They were soft but also slightly chapped, but it was euphoric. Your free hand lay on her waist, and she only kissed you harder.
You couldn’t believe you denied the fact that she could love you back.
