Foodie Friday: Pumpkin Pie!

Ingredients (Pie Crust): -1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour -½ tsp salt -1/3 cup vegetable oil -2 tbsp cold water

Ingredients (Filling): -2 eggs -½ cup sugar (or more as needed) -About 2 tsp pumpkin spice (or more as needed) -½ tsp salt -1 can (15 oz) pure pumpkin puree* -1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk

1) Heat oven to 425 degrees (Fahrenheit). In medium bowl, mix flour, salt, and oil with fork until evenly moistened. Sprinkle with cold water, 1 tbsp at a time, tossing with fork until all water is absorbed. Shape into a ball and press into a pie plate to cover bottom and sides evenly.

2) In a large bowl, beat eggs slightly with wire whisk or hand beater. Beat in ½ cup sugar, spices, salt, pumpkin, and milk.

3) Place pie plate on oven rack and completely fill with filling. Bake 15 minutes.

4) Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees (Fahrenheit). Bake about 45 minutes longer or until knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Place on cooling rack and allow to cool completely (about 2 hours). Top with whipped cream and enjoy!

*Chef’s Note: Specifically get pumpkin puree, rather than pumpkin pie mix. Additionally, I recommend checking the ingredients on the can. Many pumpkin purees supplement with butternut squash due to the similarity in flavor, but for the best results, you want 100% pumpkin!

Magical Ingredient!

The ultimate dessert. The pie that defines America more so than apple pie (in my opinion, of course). And easily one of my greatest weaknesses. Pumpkin pie is an absolute staple of American Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s celebrations. Being an autumn pie, it also works well for Samhain, which is an additional bonus to us witches!

Every ingredient in this dish, I have covered previously in Foodie Friday installments. However, I wanted to touch on a common kitchen witch technique since this is the first opportunity I’ve had thus far to include a recipe for pie from scratch.

Pies are incredibly versatile for the kitchen witch. They can be layered, they can be decorated, they can be filled with all manner of delicious goodies. But perhaps one of the most wonderful things about them is that they are ideal for the discreet witch in terms of using sigils and symbols. In the past, I’ve discussed how oils can be poured into sautee pans in the shape of sigils for intent, but pies take it a step further.

The pie crust recipe here is helpful in that you can press or cut the symbol into the crust before adding the filling (which wouldn’t be noticed after cutting). Whether using the pumpkin filling or making any other kind of pie, the method remains the same. Ideally, you can match your intention with the sigil to the type of filling that you’re using for the pie (such as protection or health for pumpkin pie, fertility and love for apple pie, et cetera).

Additionally, pie crusts can be made magical in the same way, but less discreetly, through decorative crust on top of the filling. I’ve seen gorgeous pie crusts featuring sigils, religious iconography, and even natural decorations done with appropriate intention.

This, as I’ve mentioned, is a very common form of spellwork used by kitchen witches who enjoy baking, but it deserved note here at some point!

How might you incorporate spellwork into your pies! I’d love to hear your experiences and thoughts in the reblogs/comments below!

And as always, May All Your Meals Be Blessed! )O(

Who has borderline and agrees they feel this way?

When you literally can’t put your thoughts into words. You always feel like your brain is stuck, and you can’t find the right words to speak.

This happens to me always.

I don’t really want my relationship to be like romantic as fuck all the time. Like yo I need a girl that’s gonna surprise attack me with water guns or lay around in the same pair of our pajamas we’ve worn the past three days eating pizza and playing grand theft auto. Don’t get me wrong the romantic shit is nice but I enjoy being weird and wild together too.

the worst pain is to make small talk with the person you once told everything.

The worst pain is stepping on your pet’s little feet and knowing that they don’t understand what “I’m sorry” means 😩😩😩😩

The first one..

It hurts so freaking bad

“I realized, I was crying over someone who simply didn’t care. I’m finally moving on. Although you did teach me one thing, to never hold on to someone who isn’t holding on to you. As for me, I know better, as for you, you lost a person who actually cared.”

I needed you, and you left. I thought we were over - I spent days trying to get that through my head. You shut me out. You made me feel like I did something wrong. It tore me apart, believing you were gone. I’m not sure how to let someone come back from something like that.
