“Dave’s a 20 year old Californian in-the-closet trans guy who’s just like anyone else you’d see on the street. He loves to play D&D over phone calls, he adores his Maltese pup, Snowy, he draws almost exclusively with mechanical pencils and he thinks that the Marvel Movies are the best thing since that sliced bread idiom. And he’s currently living in an extremely abusive home. Despite being 20 years old, Dave’s mother refuses to let him leave the house on his own, even to do things like walk to the McDonalds down the street. She’s stated that she still sees him as a three year old little girl playing with Barbie, and that she doesn’t want him growing up. She’s extremely critical of his difficulty in handling third level education on his own, openly homophobic, racist and transphobic, shamelessly insults both his appearance and that of any of his friends, refuses to allow Dave to leave the house if he’s not dressed femininely or to let him cut his hair any shorter than shoulder length, and he’s constantly under threat of her confiscating or monitoring his mobile phone or laptop, cutting him off from his support group. Dave needs to get out. As it stands, Dave’s friends are trying to get him out of the house, and he’s got somewhere he’ll be able to stay for 2 weeks before he needs to start paying rent at a rate of $700 a month. He’s going to start jobseeking the moment he’s out of the house and drop out of college until he’s able to financially support himself and get an education abroad with support from international friends like myself, but as it stands, he’s going to have a hard time doing so. The money from this fundraiser will, effectively, be used to pay for anything he might need help with while running away from an abusive household- stuff like rent, transport costs, food, etc, to keep him afloat until he can get a job that’ll pay for him (and his dog!)’s life away from his abusive home. Every donation will be a little more towards getting him stable and, for the first time in his life, be himself, starting with a haircut and some new clothes so he can finally look like a Dave. You can make a difference in a young trans guy’s life- and all of us, his friends, will owe you everything for your help.”
