Okay so this is something I like to call a "breathing room" shot. The scenes prior to this one (in both media) are full of drama and chaos, and instead of continuing, that breaks and you're given a moment of peace and silence. This is very notable in older movies, off the top of my head- I watched "ferris bueller's day off" again and I adore the calmer moments where nothing's necessarily happening but the characters are just existing(tm). Breathing shots could differ wildly from simple views of the scenery to far shots of the characters silently doing something.
