I don’t have food stamps but I need to know how to eat well for $4/day. Thank you for this.

I love this cookbook!

Tips and tricks on how to survive being working class.

I’ve seen this kind of thing before and a lot of them are full of random weird shit you’d never make…because of time constraints or like, it just sounds super gross.

But this one had a whole section that’s just “Things on Toast”. Another that was all about putting crap in your oatmeal to make it better. Those are fairly pedestrian and don’t take forever.

I haven’t looked through the whole thing yet but so far it’s actually pretty practical. Also if you’re broke like me and don’t know how to make Dal, you should get on that.

I also liked that there’s this at the beginning:

This book isn’t challenging you to live on so little; it’s a resource in case that’s your reality. In May 2014, there were 46 million Americans on food stamps. Untold millions more—in particular, retirees and students—live under similar constraints.

Been there. Done that. Advice on this art is always welcome.

The link above seems to be broken; here’s one that still works.

The Good And Cheap cookbook is 100% free as a PDF download from the author’s website and is available in English and Spanish. It is practical, tasty, easy, and kind. Physical copies are one of my top “so you have your own place now” gifts. Highly recommend.

(note that the PDF is oriented the same as the physical book - two square pages - so it’s more landscape format and might be difficult to read on a phone)

When I say this book saved me between 2011 and 2013, I genuinely mean it. Download it if you can’t afford anything else, but if you can, do buy a copy.

i've been thinking and i think a lot of celebrity discourse wouldn't be a thing if more people understood how PR works and that these famous people have been carefully curated as products for consumption 99% of the time. the reason a lot of actors seem so much like their characters is because, a lot of the time, they're deliberately playing that aspect of themselves up to promote the project they're in. why do you think so many straight actors starring in gay films have vaguely gay anecdotes prepared for interviews? why do you think leads promoting rom-coms often play up their chemistry in interviews? none of it is accidental. pedro pascal isn't walking around calling himself daddy because he happens to genuinely call himself that. it makes him more marketable. i think a lot of us know that celebrities' public personas are curated, but it doesn't stick because we want to be entertained and to like these people. the more I interact with PR people as part of my job and am made aware of the "rules" surrounding celebrity interactions and interviews - the more I've realised just how much of a performance all of it is. now i am not saying it's a Bad thing, i think this curation is mostly in place to protect privacy and keep promotion focused on the show/film. but i don't think it would hurt for more people and fans to remember that almost everything you know and see about celebrities is incredibly curated and tunnel-visioned to make them living breathing promo material for whatever they're in, which is to say that these are the last people who should be looked to as role models for moral and ethical guidance because they aren't *for* that.

Please help me crowdfund $640 to pay off my medical bills & my next credit card payment for Sept. I'm a trans guy in Florida who hasn't been able to work as much the last few months with the impact these transphobic laws have had on my mental health. I'm only paid once a month currently & my next check is only going to be $180. We also just got denied food stamps and my pet of almost twenty years just died on Friday. I'm having. A time. I am better able to work again now but am really gonna be struggling for a minute to catch up bc of this shit, so this will really help. Thank you in advance to anyone who can donate / reblog. I also am still crowdfunding for housing / food needs for another trans friend & their pet here. Thanks again for any help you can provide either of us.

"Butch women being treated poorly is evidence of anti masculinity" that is literally misogyny. It's just misogyny. Women being hated for being masculine is part and parcel of the misogynistic systems of domination that keep women oppressed.

it shouldn't be called unemployment benefits it should be called pretty princess boy points and it should be $10k a week

fuck "girl lunch" fuck "girl math" a woman is a hairy animal who sweats and grunts and excretes and hungers and gets wrinkly and dies eventually. you have to love that.

I like the total lack of solidarity displayed by French towards English when it comes to the word colonel. I mean they did borrow it from us and we did take the Italian colonnello and spell it coronel, but then we sneakily switched back to colonel pronounced co-lo-nel. We pointed English in a weird direction then turned tail. It’s like “debuted” pronounced day-byood… in French débuter is pronounced intuitively, with the T, and yes I know we don’t pronounce the t in début… and English went with that and kept the silent T in verb form, meanwhile French was like no, début with a silent T is just the right amount of silly but débuter with a silent T would be crazy, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere. And we sat idly by as English committed all the way to something we’d started

[ID: a comic in a sketchy stick figure style. In panel one, two fluffy creatures that look like sheep or llamas bound jauntily towards a cliff. The creature at the front is labeled French, and the one behind is labeled English. French says, “I’m jumping I’m jumping!!” and English, following, says, “me too!!!” The bottom of the cliff is labeled “commitment to linguistic absurdity”. In panel two, French has stopped at the edge of the cliff, saying, “wait no that’s dumb”. English, tumbling over the cliff, is looking back and saying, “HEY”. End ID.]
