Did anyone else notice that Marc and Steven are in the afterlife? Like, they're pretty obviously in the House of Rest. Tawaret showing up at the end of the episode just confirmed it.

I figured it out almost the MOMENT Marc woke up, "What, are they in some kind of Egyptian afterlife care home-OH WAIT THEY ARE"-literally me watching episode 4.

Harry Potter Survey

Hi everyone! I’ve created a survey that covers opinions on Harry Potter before and after J.K. Rowling revealed her true colors as a tremendous transphobe. I would love it if people could fill it out. It’s completely anonymous and the results will be used to examine how feelings on gender, stereotypes, and Harry Potter have advanced in recent years.

I'm running a program where if you are an LGBTQ+ person in need of gender-affirming items (binders, breast forms, etc.) or pride flags but cannot afford or safely purchase it on your own, I will purchase it for you completely free! I will be able to start fulfilling requests immediately due to a grant I received from another organization. Check out my insta @euphoriafund for more info and a link to the website!

REBLOGGING!! THIS IS AWESOME TYSM FOR DOING THIS FOR PEOPLE!!

So apparently, over the summer, Quibi (the shortest-lasting streaming service ever lmao) did a quarantine project called “Home Movie: The Princess Bride” where a bunch of celebrities recreated The Princess Bride in tiny chunks at home.

And like there was no permanent cast, all these celebrities seem to have gotten a scene or part of a scene to do (i’m not sure exactly, I did not ever watch Quibi and thus haven’t seen this yet), and then they just… recreated it as best they could. At home. Under quarantine.

So like, you had Jennifer Garner in a blanket cape playing Princess Buttercup AND the Booing Old Woman with a crowd comprised entirely of stuffed animals:

Or Taika Waititi paying Westley off a badly-drawn Inigo on a piece of cardboard held in front of someone’s face:

And it’s all just delightful.

But my absolute favorite part of this thing that I’ve sadly never seen but assume is probably absolutely hilarious and a treasure and I want to find it some day and watch the whole thing… is that Carey Elwes is in it.

As Prince Fucking Humperdink.

One of the weirder things to be created during the decade that was 2020!

I think you mean one of the BEST things to be created during the decade that was 2020!

I love how the only person playing their original part is Fred Savage

Here is a better version of the video from YouTube

“Why do people like a character who’s committed war crimes but hate this other character just because they’re annoying” because it’s fiction Susan, and being annoying in fiction is a greater sin than being a supervillain, because it won’t make me want to read about them. It isn’t difficult to understand

“It is absurd to divide people into good and bad. People are either charming or tedious.” (Oscar Wilde)

The war crimes are fictional but my annoyance is real.

Reblogging just for that last comment omfg

THE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT COMMENTING ON FIC

I’ve read all kinds of posts both from writers and readers lamenting about comments on fic. Authors are upset when they don’t get any, readers don’t know what kinds of comments to leave, etc. And it finally clicked in my brain why I think a lot of people don’t bother writing comments.

And this is what it boils down to:

Writers do not want praise.  We just want to talk about our story.

I can’t speak for everyone obviously - but I think the majority of writers don’t care so much for the “omg you’re a brilliant writer!!” comments as much as we just want to hear your thoughts on the story. Even if it’s just your thoughts as you’re reading of “oooh x happened! I can’t believe y said this! What’s going to happen now that z has happened?!” We literally just want to talk about what we’ve written like you would with a friend about a tv show. We’re not out here demanding praise like some entitled narcissist.

While praising our writing skills or writing style is appreciated, it doesn’t need to be said on every fic and every chapter that you read. If you regularly comment on someone’s work that’s telling enough that you like our technique. Readers shouldn’t feel pressured to have to praise a writer’s abilities every time they want to comment.

In the grand scheme of things, talking about the fic/chapter is actually more helpful to us writers instead of spewing praise. It’s the same with artwork. As nice as it is that people tell me “wow your art is so pretty!” it’s a LOT more useful to me to get comments like “I love their expressions!” or “the lighting on this is gorgeous!” because then I know WHAT people are liking about it. If no one ever comments on my backgrounds, I now know what to improve. If most people comment on liking the expressions, I now know the strong points of my art and can use it to my advantage to make even better art in the future.

The same goes for fic. If multiple people tell me they liked a certain part of the story I now know that things similar to that are a hit. It’s feedback I can use to improve the story and give my readers more of what they want. Without that I have no idea what they like about the fic.

Talking with a writer about their story also gives them inspiration!! Nothing gets us more in the mood to work on a fic than to have people wanting to talk about it. A lot of times just talking about one of my fics with someone will give me that push to continue working on it. Getting a comment that just says “great chapter” or “you’re a great writer” doesn’t do much to motivate us to continue that particular fic. But if you talk about the story and the characters it gives us motivation to continue working on it, may even give us ideas for future chapters. I would hope that those of you with “comment anxiety” find this approach so much easier than trying to praise the writer every time you read.

So that fic the author hasn’t updated in forever that you’re dying to read? Talk to them about the fic and the elements of the story! It will make the writer want to talk to you about it and will get their mind thinking about it, hopefully inspiring them to continue where they left off. Fics that are left in silence are more likely to be abandoned or even deleted because nothing feels worse than putting your heart into a story to have no one say anything about it.

TLDR; Writers do not want praise, we just want to talk with our readers about the story itself, and these are the kinds of comments that inspire us to keep writing more.

It’s totally about the mutual gushing over the characters beings dorks. XD

All of this ^^^

The reason why I think of my long fics as unsuccessful is because the things I was most excited for people to react to get nothing. Yes, a positive response is fantastic but commenting on what is/isn’t engaging and what you got from the symbolism or what exciting plot point really got you ranting are IMMENSELY more flattering than “you’re a good writer”. Yes, that is a very good thing to say, but don’t be afraid to put more. Believe me, it’s what we want.

I need to get better at this too, but if you see something you like, TELL THE PERSON WHO MADE IT. Don’t just scroll past and assume they know. Honestly most of time, I have no idea if my writing worked or not. There are plot points in both A Moment Beyond and Ten Thousand Years Ago where I am still guessing what readers must have thought.

Emoji reactions are great for similar reasons! They tell me what you felt about the chapter. Or at least what you felt when you got to the comment box, which is not necessarily the same thing, and is certainly not lesser. Since so much of what I’m trying to do when writing is evoke emotional responses, it is excellent to know what hit how I wanted it to and what missed by a meter and what missed by a mile.

No author is entitled to comments, to interaction, to reblogs or likes or reviews or anything, but in a community where you’re essentially a bunch of indie writers, that’s the lifeblood that keeps people *posting*. Writing doesn’t necessarily stop, but when someone feels like no one gives a shit whether you’re sharing or not, you quit sharing.

In the simplest possible terms: creators aren’t entitled to your support, but you’re also not at all entitled to their creations.

If you want content, support content creators.

I think it'd be fun if one of these days when the evil overlord type is like "I Need A Queen. To Rule With" one of the little henchmen is just like "um 😳 if I may, sir, I would like to volunteer 👉👈" and overlord is just like. Okay sure you're cute aha

This is gay of course in case it wasn't clear. I do support henchwomen in their career choices but we're doing gay villains here

Or they could both be girls who knows. This trope is usually done with the Evil Man who proceeds to kidnap someone about it but we could have an overlady why not. Girlboss

Evil Overlady reading outdated Evil Overlord Instruction Manual from the Sexist Old Days: hmm, says here I need to acquire an Evil Queen to assist me in my Rule of Terror and General Administrative Duties. I must follow what the Manual says

Henchwoman who has been wearing increasingly risqué bustiers every passing day of her employment: umm. ma’am. 😳 I would like to apply for that position  👉👈

Evil Overlady: Excellent! This is why I hired you, because you are a Real Go-Getter

I found the cutest picrew!! I figured I’d share it with you guys!❤️

low empathy in autism is often misunderstood. i want to explain it with some examples here to hopefully help you understand how it can affect people (this is how it affects me)

low empathy actually looks like: i don’t understand that what’s fun for me might not be fun for you. i might think i’m sharing Good Feelings with you by telling you about something i love or making you play my favorite game with me, and not realize that you’re not enjoying it because i have a hard time distinguishing that people interpret and enjoy things differently. i might be confused or upset when you don’t want to hear about something that makes me very happy, because it doesn’t make you as happy as it makes me and that’s hard for me to grasp. it is hard for me to put myself in your shoes and consider that other people might not get the same excitement and joy that i get out of these things. conversely, i might refuse to participate in something most people enjoy and come off as a “buzzkill” or self centered because i don’t understand that other people enjoy something that only makes me upset. i may be confused as to why everyone is engaging in something so upsetting or simply boring, like watching sports or listening to music that i don’t want to hear.

low empathy does NOT actually look like: i don’t understand that other people have feelings and therefore, i do things that i know are wrong because i don’t care about how my actions affect other people, or don’t understand THAT they affect other people. i am mean and rude because i don’t think it has any consequences (as opposed to being rude without realizing it, which is related to social skills, not empathy)

It's the Holiday Season!

Holidays in the time of COVID are going to be. . .interesting. Wear ya mask! Be careful when going places that are indoors because that's where spread could be the highest. If you plan to visit family, be careful. Set boundaries, make sure you stay safe and they do as well.

And on that note, let's talk about fun stuff! Music! My family's Catholic, I'm not. My parents agree with me that the church has done some AWFUL shit, but we are big fans of Pope Francis. He's awesome. I love listening to Christmas music, it's one of my favorite genres of music. The classics to the modern stuff, Bing Crosby to the Barenaked Ladies. The Barenaked Ladies actually brings me to my next point!

So. My absolute FAVORITE song on their holiday album is Hanukkah Blessings. It's beautifully done, gorgeously sung, and the lyrics in Yiddish only make it better. I know, I know, I'm not Jewish. None of my family is. I don't go around preaching teachings from the Torah or appropriating Jewish culture. I have an appreciation for it. Hanukkah Blessings is a song that I just happen to love. People can enjoy music from other cultures. To all those who say that's a bad no-no, it's not like we're profiting off of it. And to all those confused about why the Barenaked Ladies have three Hanukkah songs on their holiday album-one of their members is Jewish. They wanted to honor that member and celebrate his religious holiday.

So, wrapping this shit up, be kind! Be understanding. Don't use another's culture and parade it as your own. Go ahead and play that Hanukkah song if you're Christian and enjoy it. Just don't try and profit off of it. The holiday season is a time for understanding, joy, and kindness. It's my favorite time of year. Christmas is my favorite holiday. Enjoy your holidays! Whether it's Kwanza, Hanukkah, Christmas, or some other winter holiday I'm forgetting.

i think that… approximately 100% of the time, parents, teachers, etc… have this misconception that neurodivergent kids & teens don’t know anything about how to handle their neurodivergence.

for years, i suffered through people making suggestions of things that were things i had done, and either weren’t worth the effort or they actually made things worse. i told them this, and if i was still having any issues with the same problem they’d say something about “well if you’re not gonna listen to any suggestions…” when I did. they’re the one who didn’t listen when i told them that doesn’t work for me. They assume that because I didn’t try it in front of them (which is often impossible), I never tried it. I tried doing my homework as soon as I got home. I tried doing my homework at the table, I tried working where I was comfortable. I tried listening to music, I tried working in silence. I tried using a planner, I tried setting reminders on my phone, I tried. I tell people that I have executive functioning issues and they say that I have to work on it like I haven’t been doing that as long as I’ve had to do things and it’s so much better than it was before. I’m as able as I am now because I’ve spent 18 years working on it.

One of my friends has ADHD, and at one point when her grades dropped her parents took her phone, despite her telling them that the only way she can focus on her homework is to listen to music, for which she needs her phone.

I was in a study hall with another friend, who also has ADHD. Sometimes, they would be able to focus and do their work. Others, they would end up being entirely unable to and would do other stuff. The “instructional support” person would start bothering them about it, insist that they try. As if they hadn’t already done so.

I am tired of watching people assume that neurodivergent people aren’t trying, or we haven’t tried. We’re always trying.

Fucking this

I have to make a meme for my sociological theory class. Please enjoy.

Me on a date: So how do you feel about the idea that poor people are stuck in a rut and can't escape?
My date: I think it's bullshit.
Me, stuffing breadsticks into my purse: I have to go.
My date: I think Karl Marx was right and they'll rise up against the bourgeoisie.
Me, slowly pulling breadsticks out of my purse: Go on.
Anonymous asked:

why’re giraffes so violent

most big herbivores are, frankly. if you have a pretty steady supply of food and don’t have to worry about missing a hunt and starving to death, you can afford to throw your weight around more and generally be more aggressive!

that’s why the most dangerous big animals in the world are almost all herbivores.

this is also why walking right up to these things in Jurassic Park would have been a fantastically bad idea

Sauropods would be fucking TERRIFYING and it annoys the hell out of me that media constantly portrays them as passive and harmless. That Indominus from Jurassic World would have been SLAUGHTERED against an Apatosaurus, let alone a whole HERD of them

- @cappucino-commie

No shit, when I was a kid I went on safari in Kenya’s salvo national park (less park, more sprawling wilderness). The campsite was next to a watering hole full of hippos, while a half dozen muscley dudes with massive guns stood guard nearby. I asked one of them if they were guarding us from lions or crocodiles. The guy looked down at me, dead serious, and said “Not crocs. Hippos.”, before returning his stony-eyed vigil over the water.

Also, a few days before we set out, a safari van was knocked over a cliff by a rhino. Herbies ain’t too chill.

Giraffes. . .are very scary. I was on the safari ride at Animal Kingdom(that's right, at DISNEY WORLD) when the car got too close to this family on giraffes that were RIGHT next to the tracks. Dad giraffe did not like this. So he ran up and down the side of the car and moved his head up and down like he was about to flip us. My poor brother was one of the people closest to the giraffe. We had to wait for like five-ten minutes for the giraffe to back off before we could move again.

A few years before that, my dad and I were on the same ride. A black rhino got REAL close to the car and we had to stop because black rhinos are more aggressive than white rhinos. That one got close to running into the side of the car.

Herbivores do NOT fuck around

ADHD life hacks #41,279: Vegetable Management

I’m actually thinking of doing something like this. But I’d also have to do it with stuff in the boxes under my bed like “hey remember you have another 10 jumpers and 3 pair of boots you can wear! Stop wearing the same ones 5 times a week!”

I use clear crates for this very reason - if a person with ADHD can see a thing, they're 110,000% more likely to remember it

This is why I hang all my clothes up! I forget about half of my shirts and never wear them if they're in a drawer, plus it helps me stay organized anyways

My mom taught me to exaggerate my pain so that doctors would take me seriously and all I'm saying is that it hasn't failed me yet

Listen. If you're a Black Woman you absolutely should exaggerate your pain.

We're dying because these doctors refuse to take us seriously. If you feel like something is off exaggerate it until they test for it. We've gotta advocate for ourselves

#when they ask you to rank your pain whatever pain level you think you're at. add at least 2

It's also very common for women to underestimate their own pain. Conversely men over estimate their pain.

I think most women are conditioned to believe adjectives like severe, intense and unmanageable are for other people or other pain. Women assume you would have to be struck by lightning or have 3rd and 4th degree burns over a substantial part of your body to qualify for a 10 but a 10 is a lot more mundane than women expect. I have migraines. I probably 48 days a year spent in classes 9 and 10 pain. So the truth is that you're "exaggerating " is more than likely correct if not somewhat underestimated.

My mom always underclasses her pain because she thinks of the scale as "10 is the worst" she's ever experienced and that, for her, is labor. It is for a lot of women. That doesn't mean your pain is less real than anyone else's and look at this scale for reference if you can!

What’s so bad about periods

At first I was like “no don’t reblog it’ll weird people out” then I was like “oh right that’s the point”

You also lose iron during menstruation. I actually passed out because of that yesterday.

Also shout out to all trans, gender-fluid or genderless people with menstruation out there! Periods don’t make you female. Only you define your gender!

Actually there is a good chance that is not the lack of iron making you pass out but instead drops on blood pressure!

I found this out recently. I’ve always been told my fainting/dizzy spells during my period were iron related but I did some research and because I have a history of low blood pressure and fainting related to it (in times of a restricted diet and pregnancy) it’s far more likely that’s the reason I’m fainting

A lot of other AFAB people report the same

I ended up in the hospital due to severe blood loss and needed transfusions to recover

Not to mention the dip in your immune system when you lose that much blood, just because of all the white blood cells pouring out along with the rest of it.

Or the fact that a lot of the painful/severe symptoms associated with periods are actually due to medical problems that need to be addressed, but people don’t know this because no one wants to talk about it and associate most of the symptoms with a fictional version of PMS
