Aro/Ace Attorney

@dei-lab-assistant

I am two out of the three descriptors in the name of this blog--and I've never studied Law.

Last night, before bed, my brain decided it would be fun to write a scene in which I interact with my D&D character. So I guess I’ll figure out what kind of commoner I would be in the game, and then write a scene in which I interact with the character I play every week.

I think it will be fun, and now I’ve decided random people on Tumblr should also do this.

The only downside is that anyone who reads my scene will discover how NOT COOL my character is.

Major Monogram's Job was Not Terrible

On the rare occasions people found out what Major Monogram did for a living, they often assumed his job was difficult because it must be “like herding cats.” He originally thought this comparison was inadequate, as many of his agents were both more dangerous and more difficult than he imagined cats to be; also, the consequences of failure when herding cats were considerably less. The addition of cat agents began to change his mind, perhaps the simile was more apt than he originally assumed.

Other people flat out belittled both him and his line of work. Why did no one trust him with human agents? That was a common question his doubters asked. Do they clean out their own litter boxes? An equally common question. Some called him Noah or Doctor Dolittle to his face. However, over time, the Major came to realize his “completely unglamorous job working with those stupid animal agents of yours” was both important and surprisingly fun. Perhaps not as fun as being a gymnast, but decidedly fulfilling and enjoyable.

Although he would not readily admit it, Major Monogram knew the turning point in his opinion of the O.W.C.A. was the unexpected result of his attempt to requisition some muscle to work security in the building. Instead of a bodybuilder, a gunslinger, or a martial artist, he found himself working with Carl Karl, the unpaid intern who knew everything about computers and nothing about fighting. Apparently, some of the agents had been complaining about the poor quality of their mission briefings, while others thought their computer system was capable of more than games of Minesweeper and collecting spam e-mails, which resulted in Carl being assigned.

I'll throw out some of the options that seem fun to me, and if you want to write one of them, great! (Please forgive my longwinded ask.)

(A lot of the options seemed like they would be romantic, but I think these work for my personal, platonic desires.)

  1. Rescue/Saved/Finally Safe (Knowing and/or befriending the Kaibas inherently brings risks, but presumably it's great to know they've got your back when it gets dangerous.)
  2. In the Rain/Thunderstorms Outside (I don't know why "In a Thunderstorm" isn't an option. Do other people not enjoy that particular experience? It's just a peak high-sensory experience, and I have great memories of being out in Thunderstorms with various friends.)
  3. Trust (Honestly, people trusting me is one of my favorite things, because I put effort and intention into being trustworthy. Mutual trust is at the heart of most of my fantasies.)
  4. Cooking for Someone/Cooking Together (Because I love cooking with people. Legitimately have done it with friends in Real Life, and it's great. I think I like that it's hands-on, interacting with the world and making something together is what life is all about.)
  5. Adventure (See my comments on 21. Only this time the reader gets to be more involved as an active participant. One of my favorite genres.)

Rescue.

Maybe rolling your eyes isn't the best idea in this situation, but you can't help yourself. "You really don't want to do this," you warn the men standing around you. "I'm sure whoever is paying you isn't paying enough." You're not joking. Anyone willing to pay enough would get better quality kidnappers. These guys have to be random thugs from a bar or something.

"Just shut up and put your hands in the air!"

"Well I warned them," you mutter to yourself. You raise your hands and while they're in the air, you press the button on your wristband. You wonder who will get here first as one of the men pats you down and takes your phone.

Then he tosses it to the ground and stomps on it.

"HEY!" You know Kaiba will replace it, but still, now you have to set up a whole new device. "What's wrong with you?!"

"We don't need your boyfriend tracking you before we get the ransom money." The man laughs. "What, do you think we're stupid?"

"Honestly, yes." You can't help but smirk. Kaiba must be rubbing off on you. "And he's not my boyfriend."

Then you hear the distinctive sound of a helicopter. Instead of looking up, you wait until the draft from the helicopter is blowing everyone's hair and clothes around. You take a step away from the man next to you. You don't want to be in the line of fire and none of the men are looking at you anymore anyway.

Kaiba swoops in with his jetpack, knocking over the man closest to you before landing dramatically low to the ground with one knee bent and the other leg spread out.

A high-pitched "HIYEEEEEEE!" can be heard over the noise of the helicopter as two more people land. The noise is coming from the smaller person, and he's wearing a helmet while brandishing a gun.

All the men begin screaming as he shoots wildly at them. The splashes of color give away the fact that he's wielding a paintball gun, but you don't think any of the men getting shot will notice that right away.

You tried to warn them, but nobody ever realizes that it's the gremlin little brother that they really need to watch out for.

Kingdom Tales

This is my entry for the first prompt in the Stars in Our Mind writing contest. The prompt can be found here.

My entry is about 90% original stuff I made up, and 10% from the world of the video game Yu-Gi-Oh: The Falsebound Kingdom. (I was trying to imitate the old-fashioned writing style found in the Sherlock Holmes stories.)

@kataraseye (Sorry, I should have told you I intended to post here on Tumblr sooner. Also, sorry for posting this on the deadline.)

And now...my story! ____________________________

Over the years, my readers have sent many letters to my publisher, oftentimes with questions for me about my adventures in the Kingdom. Of these questions, the most common is to inquire as to the method by which my companions and I returned to these United States. After much consideration, I have concluded there would be no harm in answering such a query, so I now lay before you an account of my last night in the world of Kingdom.

Not long after we celebrated our first year in the curious land called Kingdom, we found ourselves in the fortress city of Rhuninn-Grahd, which housed the pioneer’s merchant office. By this point, my employer, Mrs. Smith, was quite the celebrity, and the merchant’s guild was more than happy to provide us with all the food and drink we could consume.

After drinking slightly more alcohol than my good Christian mother would approve of, I collected a variety of foodstuffs and headed for the roof of the merchant’s office. As expected, I found Mrs. Smith using a crate as a makeshift desk. Her clothing was a mixture of patched clothing from our world and newer pieces from this one. Once, I would have thought it strange to see a woman wearing a long tunic and trousers, with her corset loosely laced over top of her clothing, but Mrs. Smith had been forced to slowly amend her attire as the rigors of the battlefield tore away at her fine New York clothing. What remained of her skirt had been fashioned into a cloak, which was loosely tied about her shoulders. Indeed, the only aspect which remained largely unchanged was her hair, which was pinned up in the same simple style she had worn on the day she hired me back in Ohio.

Still a trio after all this time 💗

[ID: A drawing of Miles Edgeworth, Larry Butz, and Phoenix Wright; both from the present and past. Near the top of the image the trio is posing for a photo; Larry, in the middle, is grinning widely, and leaning his elbows on the shoulders of the other two. Miles crosses his arms, looking toward his friends and scowling over the contact, Phoenix smiles fondly while observing the interaction. In the middle and lower half of the image, and superimposed over their older figures, is a picture of their younger selves in a very similar position. Young Larry is once again in the middle, leaning his arms on his friends’ shoulders, while young Miles opens his mouth in protest, and young Phoenix is again observing his friends and laughing with a open smile. End ID]
