One of the worst parts of current internet culture is that it makes good old fashioned complaining so difficult. I don’t wanna cancel anyone or bully anyone, I’m not trying to form a hate mob I’m not calling anyone out, i just wanna bitch about something. Because complaining is fun, good for you, even. Is that too much to ask? Where is the room for shooting the shit?
snw having chapel play chess with spock like that is such a glaringly obvious example of the writers cutting and pasting all the moments of intimate friendship between jim and spock and putting her there instead.
it is so infuriatingly clear their exact intentions in scraping all subtext from the genuine connections between jim and spock established in TOS and using chapel as their platter to display them in a palatable, heteronormative way.
like... chapel suddenly being the "i love you as you are" character when literally THE FUNCTION of chapel's relationship to spock in TOS was that she could only love her idea of who he should be. There's only one character in the entire series who never asks Spock to be anything more than himself. No, not his parents. Not T'Pring. Not Leila. Not Zarabeth. Certainly not Chapel.
It's just Jim. That is why their relationship is unique.
Also Spock getting ready to beat the shit out of Sam Kirk, 10/10 superior content, love it. ❤️ kick his ass, fall in love with his brother, you have the range, sweetie. 👏👏👏
Strange New Worlds answered the continuity issue of "if Spock and Uhura served alongside Sam Kirk for years, why didn't either of them react in TOS season 1 when Sam dies?" by saying "because neither of them could stand Sam. Next question."
'Lost in Translation' has to be the ep I've enjoyed the most this season tbh
I love the implication that Kirk got sucker punched by Uhura and just went 'Yes, I will respect and worship her for the rest of our natural lives' cause that's just a valid reaction. It's relatable, uhura could punch me and I would thank her.
I love that the ep demonstrates her empathy, love for others and the connections she feels that makes her so good at her job. I love that it showcased her grief, her dealing with losing others and the questions that arises in a person. It was right, only she could've understood it was a message, only she could've related to the aliens. CRG absolutely kills it this episode, I'm loving her version of Uhura. Unlike some others, I can genuinely see her becoming her tos character because the blocks are there and they're done well in this ep.
Also, Spock and Kirk finally met, uhura facilitated that and they all clearly get along and it made sense and I can only applaude the ep that does that
The more I watch SNW, the more I get the feeling that Spock found out Sam was dead and tried to keep cool but was internally like "Goodbye you irritating PoS" and I love that
Them pushing this chapel Spock romance is killing me I fucking hate it. And not even with a bias to spirk. This is just...weird.
‘Ad Astra Per Aspera’ was one of the greatest bits of TV I have ever witnessed. I feel emotionally drained but it was so incredible.
*Cringes* Boy that episode sure was.... something huh?
.... Christ they seriously tried to compare Amanda to *Christine* and ross gellered spock
Honestly, Spock speaking to and about his mum was the only thing good about the ep
Note: MY OPINION
Timeline stuff in recent star trek really seems to be trying to absolve humanity of the wars of the mid 21st century. I love the idea of time almost behaving in star trek like the ultimate force of nature: ebbing, flowing and fighting against the decisions of the tiny mortal creatures that inhabit it. Brilliant commentary on the role of nature and homeostasis.
HOWEVER, it means that the wars of the mid 21st century, will not be a result of overall mans folly and capacity of territorial violence like the original story. Now, it will be the eugenics wars (the result of augmented 'superhumans' that are explicitly othered from the rest of humanity in fighting categories and politics). The original point of the eugenics wars being in the 1990s and ww3 being afterwards is a commentary on the divisiveness of man, that because we created such an enemy, then making the enemy the other, we couldn't stop fighting just because we defeated it. It was because humanity found that they weren't alone that they were then prompted to come together. So, when you think about it, Star Trek will have to move the timeline forward overall by AT LEAST 30 years to still make sense continuity/message wise because otherwise humanity is entirely decimated/factionalised when it wasn't before by an event that they previously survived for about 40yrs
I'm seeing so many theories about how SNW could address gay spock or spirk and I'm just saying y'all are giving Paramount WAY too much credit
POSITIVE: Jim kirk forever remaining a gaywhocandomathbutcan'tdrivetm
Thank you
Okay legit though, I'm cool with the little inconsistencies of the timeline and the characters, that's just an issue with different writings from different eras (I mean, the timeline stuff on ep.3 is another issue but whatever). But like, it's setting up a problem with spock of like... how did he get promoted so high up??????! Finney in tos 'court martial' didn't get promoted for staight up years because of a tiny mistake and Spock is now allowed to break so many rules throughout his ENTIRE career and gets captain and a distinguished career?!
Note: I love spock and like get those promotions boi but yk... more consistency?! Maybe just not have him do those things? Anyone who has a continuity issue with janice leister from tos should take issue with this too.
the way they can't let kirk and spock share a frame for more than one second lest snw spock's fragile heterosexuality crumble into dust
Strange new worlds s2 is great so far. Don't know who the guy thirsting on chapel is but he should maybe chill out. Missing spock though, wonder when he's going to show up, will really connect the show having another tos character there
So genetic engineering will get a sf officer arrested, but medical professionals can just inject themselves with stegs that make you as strong as a klingon in peacetime with no consequences???? Whack
