look, all i'm saying is that if your parents fostered this kid for a while and you became best friends, and then the kid got into drugs or something and joined a gang and killed your brother-in-law, and the police got involved and your newly widowed sister, who had a one-month-old baby, ran into the middle of the gunfight to protect your almost-brother and got killed and then he blew himself up with a grenade, and then over a decade later he suddenly showed up at your house reincarnated into the body of a teenager with his boyfriend who is in his 30s and also hates you and got mad at you for not kicking your orphaned teenage nephew's emotional support dog out of the house as soon as you realized your almost-brother was there without an invitation, and you went to the private family cemetery and he and his boyfriend had jumped the fence and were doing something that looked an awful lot like getting ready to have sex on top of your parents' grave, and you held yourself back from doing anything but saying "you piece of shit, stop fucking on top of mom and dad's grave and get out of here" and the boyfriend went "oh good i've been looking for an excuse to punch you" and punched you in the face, you would hit him back too

One of my very favorite book moments is the narration explicitly saying that Yanli had not forgiven Wei Wuxian when she died. She loves him so much that she immediately trades her life for his in the same moment she cannot honestly say she doesn't hate him. This is a moment that so exemplifies the complexities of love and grief and pain and forgiveness, and yet so many people are so fucking boring about it. In Yanli Lives AUs you will see SO MUCH harping about Jiang Cheng killing Wei Wuxian, something that happens in zero(0) versions of canon, while simultaneously glossing past Wei Wuxian killing Zixuan which happens in every universe except CQL, and even there WWX himself has no idea about the number of flautists present at Qiongqi Path. People rarely fully reckon with the sheer extent of the devastation WWX caused Yanli and it's a real waste both of some beautiful knives but also the full catharsis of her eventual forgiveness. The fact that Yanli hated him at the end but loved him far more, that she could die for him before she could forgive him is where all the flavor is!

ok but let me raise you some counter points:
1.Itto is great with teens and kids, takes them seriously and believes literally everything he’s told
2.Fischl can tolerate anything as long as you go with her roleplay
3.Itto is actually okay with working as bodyguard\bouncer and even offers it freely as long as he’s getting praised
so in the right circumstances their meeting can be actually just two overdramatic theater kids LAPRing their hearts out
- Itto hearing Fischl introduction and going “Oh my god a REAL PRINCESS??? that’s so cool!”
- Fischl appoints him her knight or like the mightiest champion and they come up with the longest most ridiculous title bc they both love that shit
- Itto takes this super seriously and is now yelling at everyone to call fischl Your Highness
- Oz and Ushi are immediately besties
