DearestHershel's Layton Archives

@dearesthershel

I'm DearestHershel and I'm upscaling assets and sharing forgotten content from the Professor Layton games.  Follow DearestHershel on YouTube for more!

Can’t take all the credit with this one, but Discord user CreativelyNamedUser#1903 dumped the Spectre’s Call character sprites in the DearestHershel Discord, though they were all split up into animated ‘pieces’ (e.g. mouth movements, eye movements, limbs, etc).  I pieced them together and upscaled them, which, while not perfect, now gives us the cleanest copies of the sprites from Spectre’s Call. Am going on holiday for the week on the South Coast, but will take requests for other sprites once I’m back.  Let me know what else you wanna see in the replies!

In today’s episode of DearestHershel puts in waaaaay too much effort, I’ve just created a vocal synthesis model of Future Luke / Clive Dove.  He sounds absolutely fantastic, and I’ve been sharing some other examples in the DearestHershel Discord. I’ve also made models for Flora Reinhold, Inspector Chelmey, Bill Hawks, Anton Herzen, Jean Descole, and two other characters from videos on the DearestHershel channel, Kebabby and Gordon Reinhold.  In the meantime, I’m also working on models for Beluga, Dimitri Allen and Katia Anderson. So long as a character has a decent amount of voice lines, I should be able to make a voice from it.  I’ve submitted all the ones I’ve made so far to uberduck.ai, and currently Descole, Chelmey and Flora have been added.  Is there anyone in particular you would like to see?

Would you ever consider working on uploading the credits images of the other games? :o) Unless you've already done that. I've only found ones from Diabolical box.

I'm fairly certain I've shared ones from Lost Future and vs Ace Attorney, but will double check. Will look at what other ones I've not uploaded soon though.

holy shit what program did you use? sounds pretty awesome ngl. i wonder if it would be possible to make english singing banks LMAO (would probably sound wack as hell but funny)

I used a Google Colab notebook for it, utilising Tacotron2. I think for singing banks, you're supposed to use TalkNET, although I haven't got any experience with that. Would be great to get a singing Layton though!!

I’ve also gone and made a Descole vocal synthesis model.  Had to combine in some Sycamore lines, and the reverb in the Froenborg cave and Azran Stronghold made it a bit iffy, but he sounds alright.  Hopefully I can make these more accessible in the future!

i am. SO excited to see those upscaled miracle mask sprites :O i think you said you planned on doing everyone anyway, but i just wanted to check and see if Nils was in that batch? he is my favorite npc of all time and his wiki image is so crusty </3 thank you so much for all your hard work btw!!!

Nils looks like he's got a great fashion sense, haha. Not sure I could rock those trousers though... I updated his image on the wiki yesterday, so hope you like it!

Hey, I don't know if this has been ansked before or not, but I was wondering what software you use for your upscaling.

For the cutscenes, I used Cupscale, and used a Manga-style upscaler, whereas for individual images, I tend to use waifu2x.udp.jp, as I think it's better for PNGs and transparancy.
