A popular anti-ship, fictive stimblog (animefictives) came under fire for a mod who happened to be a fictive condoning incest in their source.

When they were questioned about it, they tried to sweep it under the rug by saying the anon exaggerated and stretched the story. Archive to the link here.

They didn't say or do anything until it was 100%, absolutely undeniable. Literally, it took a whole call-out post (Archived here) for them to finally leave the blog and/or condemn these actions.

I don't care if a fictive condones things in fiction, obviously, but the fact they tried to gaslight people into thinking the story was stretched and exaggerated while defending exactly what they think a predator is... Well, it's pretty telling.

So the dad in this story drove at least SEVEN HOURS round trip, to pick up a bushel of plums for his little girl, in the hope that some almost-out-of-season fruit would convince her to go on living.

According to Wikipedia, the poet Mary Karr was born in 1955 and grew up in Groves, Texas and “lived there until she moved to Los Angeles in 1972.” So she would have been there when she was 13 and attempted suicide.

According to Google Maps, the shortest driving distance between Groves, TX and Fort Smith, AR is 439 miles (or 706 km for metric using folks).

That’s almost 8 hours of driving.

Almost 16 hours roundtrip.

(I assume he broke every speed limit he could.)

That’s how much this man loved his daughter.

May we all be worthy of such love.

People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.

Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.

Actually, I realized my real point here: we all need to make our art weirder. Please make weird art. I want more stuff like Prequel Adventure and 17776 and MyHouse.wad and I want it now. Capitalism thrives on conformity. We must be weird at all costs.

Newer anime MIGHT BE MORE ACCURATE in the dub, sure! But older anime? No. Some hot localized and mistranslated so bad, they are completely different.

Newer anime fans, I beg of you, WATCH YU-GI-OH. WATCH BOTH THE ENGLISH DUB AND THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE. OH, HOW ABOUT YOU WATCH THE SEASON THAT NEVER GOT AN ENGLISH DUB! SEASON 0! In which we see some pretty gruesome shit, especially those last few episodes with Bakura, where Yami Bakura literally stabs the sharper parts of the millennium ring into Bakura's chest! Oh, and stabs his hand on a DND castle.

I'm so serious, the dub of Yu-Gi-Oh took out SO MUCH. They cut at least 40 Episodes! The Shadow Realm wasn't even a fucking thing in the original! You just straight up died! Never forget that Marik developed DID from extreme trauma because his father carved a tattoo into his back with a burning knife! Amongst so much more.

How about Yu-Gi-Oh GX! Where 4!Kids literally took out the LGBT+ rep! And 40+ episodes to boot, an entire season that gave context to Yubel and Jaden's relationship! How about the fact the protag is bi or pan, is poly, and has a NONBINARY LOVE INTEREST AND A MALE LOVE INTEREST! Oh, don't forget, they made the nonbinary Duel Monster spirit a female in the English dub.

I'm begging you, PLEASE, if you're going to watch older anime, especially those dubbed by 4!Kids, just watch the original Japanese instead. It is NOT the same thing.

Yeah, sure, the Toei anime is (only somewhat) irrelevant to the Duel Monsters anime. But that doesn't mean it doesn't hold some context (aka how Jounouchi and Yūgi became friends, which gets only half-ass explained in the anime), and is what Yu-Gi-Oh was originally meant to be (Aka the King of Games, not the King of Card Games).

Even then, you suggesting to read the manga... As if it doesn't have a lot of the stuff from Season 0? I've read the first few volumes, and it's Season 0, but even darker. Like, literally, first episode with Ushio? Where the shadow game is them dangling off of a building using cards to count their steps to the top of the building before he cheats, tries to shove Yami Yūgi off, realizes he was duped and he ends up falling off into a pool full of hallucinated monsters? Yeah, the manga still has Ushio, but the shadow game is literally them stabbing money from the tops of their hands before Ushio tries to stab Yami Yūgi. The manga literally does still hold the elements of Season 0, not just the first episode, either.

The Season 0 Anime may be somewhat irrelevant, but it's still a good watch and holds a lot of the elements that the manga held. It's not 100% actually irrelevant to the Duel Monster series. There are a lot of things that were retconned, but there are still a lot of elements that were kept, yet were never fully elaborated on (like Jounouchi and Yūgi's relationship).

I definitely recommend the manga, and both the Toei and Duel Monster animes. I think it's important to see both what we got and the origins of it. I love both of the animes dearly. (I'm also probably one of the few anymore that love Bakura and Kaiba's original designs more than their current designs.)

This is primarily in reference to many younger and newer anime fans saying that the dub and sub are the same and tell the same story, when that's not the case, especially for older anime (Sailor Moon included in this, because FUCK Sailor Moon actually got dark).

Ever since I read a post saying "don't trust yourself after 9pm" whenever I find myself spiralling at 2am I check the time, see it's after 9pm, and remember not to trust myself and just go to sleep. Works wonders. The problems are never as bad in the morning.

Literally almost every millennial I know has a memory of accidentally walking in on their parents or hearing their parents having sex. It's fucking normal. Human beings have sex. Your parents fuck. Get over it. Being weird about it isn't healthy.

My parents used to “take naps” every Sunday after church, from the time I was very small, onward.

When I was younger their bedroom was on the ground floor of the house and me and my sister slept upstairs. But when I was about 9 we moved to a house where all the bedrooms were on the second floor. It was one of those Reagan-era colonials that filled the Midwest like so much mulch in a playground.

See, my parents had this really, really rickety and fragile ikea-style bed that they’d had for years and years. And I’d heard these noises for literal years. But suddenly it clicked what was happening. And so many giggles were had by me.

A couple of months after that I was talking to my mom in her room, I’m sitting on the bed and she’s standing around doing something it other. Maybe putting away laundry. And I’m just kinda sitting there, rocking back and forth, stimming.

And mom goes “oh don’t do that, the bed squeaks a lot” and I just look at her and without missing a beat go “oh yeah, I know.”

Anyway that’s the story of how I mortified my mother into buying a new bed.

also, I would argue that treating sex like some disgusting morally disgusting thing is MORE LIKELY to make it traumatizing!

children are capable of understanding at least the basic gist of sex and reproduction, and are able to understand that it's something adults do alone together sometimes. turning it into this fucked up disgusting hidden act that only addicts and sex offenders do is just how you makes people repressed and traumatized, and prevent them from understanding what a healthy relationship with sex and sexuality looks like.
