Oh god I'm in my thirties. Current obsessions: Berena, Hilda, She-Ra, Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts. Obsessions that will never die: Star Trek (especially Deep Space Nine), Doctor Who (especially Classic Who), Steven Universe. Other things that might show up: social justice, Steed and Mrs. Peel, pictures of cosplay.

"Glimpsing at the seabed through the water and the complexity of the light within, at a soothing southern sea." By Shigeko Inoue (2002).

Born in 1945, Inoue studied traditional Japanese and Italian woodblock printing. Her work focuses on nature, transparency and the movement of water.

@ new users remember to set your dash to chronological. I think old users will forget to tell you this because tumblr never randomly resets it like twitter does, so afaik literally everybody switched over to chrono as soon as they tried to introduce non-chrono, and then promptly forgot tumblr even has a non-chrono view. on tumblr we really dont do the “all mighty algorithm” thing.

INSTRUCTIONS

Account -> General Settings -> Dashboard Preferences -> Turn "best stuff first" toggle OFF

(And maybe mess with some other settings according to your preferences—I personally nixed "stuff in my orbit" and "based on my likes" because I only want to see bullshit from the people I follow, not the rest of the site's bullshit.)

And if you're on desktop, go download Xkit Rewritten too. It adds (and fixes) some site functionalities, a ton of us rely on it.

oh damn, okay, so literally last night i was talking with friends about how unrealistic the golden horse in tears of the kingdom is and how it feels like they were just trying to one-up the white horse in breath of the wild, and then i run across this post, do a tiny bit of looking, and—no really gold horses are actually literally a real-world thing!

I remember reading about this breed in horse books. They're indeed very very old (over 3000 years old) and come from the deserts in turkmenistan. The way their hair is built helps them with the extreme temperature changes in the desert.

They're tough, with high endurance and intelligence, friendly and sensitive.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul - And sings the tune without the words - And never stops - at all - And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard - And sore must be the storm - That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm - I’ve heard it in the chillest land - And on the strangest Sea - Yet - never - in Extremity, It asked a crumb - of me.

Happy Pride :)

kira was the right woman in the right place at the right time, someone willing to think outside the box and act boldly, someone with the will and conviction to give an impossible order to star fleet personnel who she doesn't trust and are only tenuously under her command. unflinching and practical, unwilling to deal with bureaucracy or ask permission. she has the clarity of vision to foresee the political future of the sector immediately, and her decision to move ds9 to the mouth of the worm hole shapes the fate of her people. and this sets a great precedent for how she operates, a strong natural leader who doesn't really aspire to authority. every bajoran rebel recognizes as a hero of their cause and yet she never thinks herself in those terms, sees herself small even, just a woman who is doing what she thinks is necessary at every turn, moving with quiet confidence, guided by pure genuine belief. what a character.

HAPPY PRIDE MONTH! 🏳️‍🌈 🎉

While you can be sure that everything I write will always be queer, here’s a handy little breakdown of the identities featured in my books.

Readers are not entitled to any private information about authors, and that includes identity, but as someone who’s out in all areas of their life and enjoys talking about themself (ehem), I’m personally always happy to answer any questions you have in relation to my queerness or what it means to me to see my identities featured in the stories I write and read! 🥰

BRO????

THIS IS SO COOL?

I can't read old english but the second chapter is both a translation and notes on the translation/writing choices which i HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEYRE SO COOL

"The Old English word for “doctor”, læce, literally means “leech”, which he would hate being called so, so much that I immediately had to use it for him."

LIKE YEAH THATLL DO IT LMAO

hello trans friends and allies! the Tennessee Senate has passed bill SB 1440, which will hinder trans people’s ability to change their legal names and gender markers. this will go into effect July 1, 2023 which is in less than a month.

what you can do right now is visit https://www.inclusiontn.org/tnncp and access free emergency name change services from legal professionals. if you don’t need these services, you can also donate to help cover the costs.

please please spread the word and share to your friends in TN as we only have until the end of this month!

i need abled people to understand

many very very sick people, people with life threatening and terminal diseases, cannot even fucking go to the dr right now because they stopped mandating masking in medical facilities and we cannot risk our lives

because there is a difference between "will kill you in years" and "will kill you in days"

there are also many people who can't get vaccinated due to conditions like guillain barre, which may progress or kill them if their immune system is activated. and these people have no other options for protection besides the vaccines they can't get and the callous whim of others, because evusheld, an iv prophylactic, became ineffective against the new variants and it doesn't look like they have any interest in updating it.

people had to fight to even get evusheld in the first place, and then had to fight to actually receive it because it was expensive and the criteria for who could get it was very small. many did not qualify, and those who did weren't able to afford it. and many of those who didn't qualify but were still able to get it were only able to do so because of privilege- for instance, one was a medical professional and another was a lawyer

the vaccines are also not effective for many people because their immune systems are not strong enough. they don't boost it like they would for someone else

i just want abled people to know this is happening

you should care even if it really was "only 2 or 3 people". but if you don't, it's still really much more that. it's hundreds. hundreds of people who either can't leave their houses and haven't for 3 years, or people with potentially deadly conditions, terminal illnesses, progressive disabilities, who have to work in this anyway if they want to be able to pay rent and eat.

you were told the high risk would protect themselves but how are we supposed to do that? we can't. there is no fucking protection. masks are only effective when everyone else is wearing one.

helping can be as simple as wearing a mask at least when you go to the dr too, and encouraging other people to do so. idk

i can't say it matters when it's on an individual level. i want it to. but the truth is i just don't know what to do. at this point i just want abled people to care, and to actually support us. to protect us. to even want to.

Retro Style Pride Flag Shirts from Sabor a Libertad

Image

No 💕

These shirts are not from the target pride collection. These are designed and made by a small queer owned indie business. If they made them any cheaper they wouldn’t be paid fairly for their work and costs would need to be cut somewhere meaning the actual shirt would be made less ethically.

Also. 45 dollars for a shirt is pretty affordable.

If items like this aren’t affordable to you right now, that’s fine and I’m sorry you’re in that situation. I have very much been there. But ffs stop putting shit like this on posts.

It’s pride. How ‘bout y’all actually support some queer owned business this month yeah?

I put together a list of queer online clothing shops for my coworker and $45 is probably the cheapest I’ve seen for a new button-up, and this style is actually harder to do than most patterns because the stripes have to be perfectly vertical. A lot of patterns can be oriented in any direction or at least the complexity of the fabric pattern can obscure alignment mistakes where sections are sewn together. But stripes have to be fucking exact!

Also most shirts use the same fabric for the collar but some of these have a solid color collar which I love as a design element, and that adds to the cost of making it because you need a second kind of fabric

AND these have “invisible” pockets, the pattern of the fabric on the pockets is matched to the pattern underneath so it becomes very subtle, which is another thing that requires a lot of extra care in the production process. Some designers deliberately use visible pockets or just have other priorities/personal opinions with their designs so a visible pocket is not necessarily a sign of low quality, but an invisible pocket is always a sign of high quality

Definitely adding this brand to my list to keep an eye on 🩷💜💙

has anyone payed attention to the stuff going down in ethiopia or are we just Miscellaneous Blacks to yall

earlier today (june 2) addis ababa police killed three muslims after friday prayer as retaliation from the protests of last week. the protesters were speaking out against the demolition of over a dozen mosques for (what every sane person knows is) our prime minister's new city—sheger city—made only for people of oromia decent at the expense of literally everyone else.

ethiopians of every ethnicity (except oromia bc this government benefits only them) are protesting this city. this is not the first time the ethiopian government, specifically our [redacted] of a prime minister, has intervened in religious affairs. earlier this year, he tried to intervene in the ethiopian orthodox church. fortunately those efforts have seemingly paused (for now).

as expected, there aren't many sources on this matter that aren't in amharic and unfortunately i can't translate. here's what i have so far (source 1) (source 2) please lmk if you find anything else, i'll add it to the list

as of today (june 4) the number of demolished mosques has risen to 22. there is a complete news blackout, people are still being arrested or killed by police for protesting. my mom's been calling family to get updates but there isn't much information at the moment.

i've been reading a bunch of stuff online about public opinions in the USA about climate change, and. We need to talk about this.

Widespread climate change denial in the USA is a myth.

A majority in every single state believes that climate change is real and supports taking action to stop it

I encourage y'all to play around with these maps because they have some super important insights in them

Social scientists have been sounding the alarm on this because even though most surveys and studies show that at least 70% or so of Americans across all states believe in climate change, Americans estimate that only a minority of other Americans believe this

This is BAD

Because the erroneous belief that climate change is controversial stops people from talking about it and emphasizing it in political and social movements, and fuels a sense of hopelessness that stops people from acting

IT'S NOT CONTROVERSIAL! AT ALL!
