my favorite genre of fictional character is like "i am terrifying to almost everyone, i'm very good at killing, i can endure anything, i've become exceptionally good at playing into my reputation, and if you try to give me positive social interaction i will react with confusion and cower in a corner like an abused animal. and i may try to shoot you. but there is also a chance i may imprint on you like a feral dog receiving its first loving touch! good luck."
just remembered this old clickhole video i used to be obsessed with
Black Menswear modelled by Black Men
Creative Director Rock Mitchell
Sharp dressed men :)
Listen, my clients never know how to dress for court. I won’t get into the number of people that have worn weed related prints or jewelry to drug charges because nobody has time for that.
My white guys sometimes swing a good polo shirt and khakis combo. Very occasionally a blazer.
It’s black clients that break out the craziest fucking suits I’ve ever seen in my life and my friends, the judges love it. They’re literally like “Thank you for respecting the court and dressing appropriately.” Congratulating this 60 year old man in solid mauve velvet and a bow tie. Or 20 year old in neon green pinstripe, who has, of course, taken off his hat as he entered, causing the judge to puff up proudly about the Youth and decide to dismiss his reckless driving ticket.
Idk if any black men are on tumblr but wear your weird amazing suits to court. Make the lawyers jealous. Be polite. Win.
Reminded of a post from 10 years ago - involving a Guinness ad, of all things - concerning La Sape, the Society of Elegant Persons of The Congo, and The Art Of Looking Good.
"biblical angels" you do realise there are angels in the old testament that are literally just regular looking guys, right? you do know that the hallucinogenic incoherent descriptions are in like. two books. and the rest of the time angels are just guys. you know that, right?
and I'm not saying don't have fun with weird angels. I'm saying, either the eldritch forms are for special occasions, or the society of the angels is Many-Eyed-Many-Winged-Interlocking-Circles, Four-Faces-Six-Wings, and Mike.
Literally Raphael is just a normal person!
this is what the heavenly breakroom is like
Oh no now I love the water cooler angel

Hmmmm....
It would have to be a young bug, hard bug. Chewing in a tree, gonna take on the world someday… With a multi-limb vambrace and thoracic carapace, poking its rostrum all over the place…

Once again I simply HAVE TO share an overall patch I own
The rest of the thread is here.
tl;dr: Don’t monetize AO3, kids. You won’t like what happens next.
read this thread. this is by far the most concise explanation of a lot of different issues that i’ve seen in fandom spaces in a while. cosigning both the linked thread and the thread about aus/uk/can law that’s linked in-thread.
AHDHXHEBSG TWITTER WRITERS DID WHAT NOW???? AND PEOPLE PAID THEM????
If someone has never taken a class that includes copyright law, they may not know this stuff, so I don’t necessarily blame random people for not knowing what copyright is, but like… maybe just maybe it’s something that should be taught????
Just another reminder, because this always drives me crazy, but even if monetizing your fic was 100% unambiguously legal and protected, AO3 would still not let you do it because AO3 was founded and is supported by people like me who want a fandom community that is completely divested from making money off of fic.
Yes, this. Lots of fanworks on AO3 are unambiguously legal. Fics based on Shakespeare plays and fairy tales and Greek mythology and The Great Gatsby and your original character from your D&D game are not violations of copyright, because no copyright applies to those things.
AO3 still doesn’t let you monetize those things on the site, because we don’t want the site to be commercial! Because that’s not what it’s for!
It’s not there for you (generic you) to make money off the efforts of the people who build and maintain the site for free! We aren’t getting paid for the work we do to give you a nice site to use, just like you aren’t getting paid for the work you do to create whatever art you share there. Because fandom is supposed to be a community where we share with each other, and therefore we all benefit.
The deal is, we give you a free, stable, safe platform to host your works. In exchange, you get a site that isn’t covered in ads and tip jars and links to gofundme and “read the next chapter at my patreon”. You get one goddamn place on the internet that isn’t trying to make money off you. And we will defend that space and keep it non-commercial.

As a tip, you might need to add “aesthetic” to the end of your search for anything to come up. Nothing would come up for my name without it.
Amd a bonus:
do people who live in countries that don't have snow know about the snow silence? When you get a nice big dumping of fresh snow and you step outside into an infinitely harshly contrasted world and there's no sound because the snow absorbs it all? I believe it fits the traditional use of terrific both wonderful and incredible but also causing a great terror.
It's the amazing stillness where the only sounds are your breath and Fromp-Fromp-Fromp or Cronch-Cronch-Cronch - possibly combined with Ziff-Ziff-Ziff if you wear that sort of outer gear.
After enough stillness, the KrrricksssFLOMP of an overstressed branch dumping its load of snow might startle you out of your thermal undies.
Especially in the Black Forest, and especially when the sun's setting and the shadows are stretching dark...
...because it'll take as long to get back to your Gasthaus as it's taken you to get where you are right now.
And you've read all the stories.
And You Never Know.
After all, that red North Face parka you're wearing comes complete with a little red hood...

Hey, happy Earth Day! Who wants to talk about climate change?
Yeah, okay, fair, I kinda figured the answer to that would be "ugh do we have to?" What if I told you I have good news though? Good news with caveats, but still good news.
What if I told you that since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we've avoided a whole degree celsius of global warming by 2100, or maybe more?
Current projections are 2.7C, which is way better than the 3-5C (with a median of 3.7C) we were expecting in 2015. It's not where we want to be - 1.5C - but it is big, noticeable progress!
And it's not like we either hit 1.5C and avoid all the big scary consequences or fail to hit 1.5C and get all of them - every tenth of a degree of warming we avoid is going to prevent more severe problems like extreme weather, sea level rise, etc.
This means that climate change mitigation efforts are having a noticeable impact! This means a dramatically better, safer future - and if we keep pushing, we could lower the amount of global warming we end up with even further. This is huge progress, and we need to celebrate it, even though the fight isn't over.
It's working. Keep going.
That’s right. It took effort and it was a real concern, but because of that effort and many others, the ozone layer is healing, acid rain isn’t melting our statues and buildings anymore, whale populations are increasing back to pre-whaling levels.
We ARE able to change our planet for the better. We have proof. Let’s keep up the good work.

So glad you’re enjoying it! But please do eat and sleep.
The good news is when you’re finished there’s a 10k character study from Ursula’s perspective about the events that transpire for just 99 cents.
