you know what's going on with lil nas x is persecution, right. it's not "just" internet trolling—he's only 21 and being targeted by SITTING SENATORS for his art. this is textbook persecution, complete with the coalescing of religion and political power, and the fact that he can fire off meme-y one liners doesn't change that! fucking hell! it horrifies me how this is being played off for laughs, even by leftists and "we are the daughters of witches you couldn't burn" crowd. it's terrifying and the actual, bodily threat to him is VERY REAL regardless of how funny his responses are.

I'm not Black so I didn't think it was appropriate of me to talk about his Blackness but dear GOD the disparity between lil nas x's vulnerability and openness about his sexuality in his art and public appearance, and the amount of backlash and discrimination he's suffered for it vs the amount of public recognition and institutional support he's gotten as compared to harry styles who put on a fucking skirt and got hailed as the King Of The Gays™ is so blatantly racist.

PSA: Please Don’t Kick Automatic Door Buttons

I use a wheelchair.

Since COVID started, I’ve seen people kick automatic door buttons to avoid using their hands. This is horrible for me, since these are high touch areas I cannot avoid.

People who can walk can elbow those buttons, but they are often too high for me (a seated person) to do that - meaning that sometimes I have no choice but to use my hands. And if the bottom of your feet has touched that button, that is negating any efforts I’m making to keep my hands clean.

Since I basically have to use my hands for everything, and many wheelchair users are in the COVID “high risk” category, this is really bad.

I would really appreciate if people used their elbows, or literally any other part of their body to press the button. Just not your feet.

Thanks.

Something to keep in mind for everyone!

If an autistic person overexplains something to you they probably don't think you're dumb they just think THEY would appreciate those details if they were the ones being explained to

A lot of things that seem obviously implicit in speech AREN'T obvious to autistic people. So we inherently think it's necessary to specify things that might seem transparent to neurotypical people because usually WE'RE the ones who need those explanations

Hey, radio DJ here! (Specifically a classic rock radio DJ on a handful of local stations that aren’t the big commercially own stations that do this).. There’s actually a reason for this. This is going to be an extremely simplified version of how this came to be (along with many other genre stations), but basically what happened was that before the mid 1990s, most radio stations just let radio DJs play whatever they wanted. It was the disk jockey’s job to find and play music that they thought their listeners would enjoy, or even just records that they liked themselves. It was usually the radio DJs who would discover bands and songs to play on the air and bring them to a wider audience. Of course there were issues like station managers not always allowing the play of music by black artists, or payola (where the radio DJs were essentially bribed to play a record which is illegal), but generally you wouldn’t hear the same exact songs with every DJ’s set. You also had a lot of unique personalities with radio DJs, as well.. For example Wolfman Jack with his snarling and growling on the air and him crafting his show to sound as much like a party on the radio as possible (and one of the radio DJs of his time to bring many black artists to a mainstream audience), or  Dr. Demento and his crew of silly people adding on a peanut gallery to the comedy music he would play (including Whimsical Will and “Weird Al” Yankovic). During the 70s and 80s it also wasn’t unusual to often hear Stevie Wonder and The Beatles side-by-side, especially with many radio DJs breaking barriers to de-segregate radio stations. In the mid 1990s, however, a law was passed.. While originally companies could only own a certain number of stations (and if I recall correctly could not own more than one station in an area), it was changed so that companies could now own as many stations as they want. So, of course, big companies started buying up as many stations as they could, especially smaller ones that would play more of the weird stuff and inner cuts… And of course when a company is that big, they don’t want to risk failing, so they essentially gentrified their musical selections. They look at the numbers of what records are selling, they put together playlists for their radio DJs, and they have to stick to that. So, if you’re listening to a station that’s playing a lot of the same tunes, don’t blame your local DJs. Chances are they were told they have to stick to a certain set of artists, or even a certain set of songs.

Glad capitalism ruined the radio

I think a case could be made that it also helped kill the record industry as a whole (or was a really big nail in it’s inevitable coffin.) Isn’t it funny how when everything is owned by big conglomerate companies who find it cheaper to automate everything rather than pay individuals that it all becomes worse for the consumers and the workers, which hastens the death of the entire industry.

“sokka’s master” is such an iconic episode the a-plot is about sokka getting a dope ass sword the b-plot is about iroh getting swole and the c-plot is about sokka’s friends just sitting there talking about how much they love sokka. a perfect episode from start to finish

One thing I’m going to make a habit of if I ever have kids is asking “do you want the fast answer or the full answer? »

Because as a child one of the most frustrating things was asking a question and

1) the adult brushed me off with the quickest answer possible because they either didn’t think I would understand the complete answer or because they were busy

Or

2) the adult immediately began to explain in-depth to me, or using a book or computer to show me something that I didn’t care about that much and just wanted a brief answer to

Sometimes kids will ask “what are clouds made of?” And you can say “water” and they will be like “okay.”

And other times they will be like “but why don’t they look like water? How do they get up there? Why do they float?” Etc. Etc.

Yeah! This also applies to adults, tbh. Sometimes I don't want a big explanation, just answer the question!

I’ve definitely done this at work lol.

Ah! Useful scripts for people with anxiety and/or poor social skills!

for better or worse i’ve recently realized that self care, for me personally, sometimes means extra effort instead of less. like making my bed every day makes me feel good about my living space even though it’s a couple minutes of work, and plating my food nicely makes me feel like i’ve made and eaten a nice meal even if it means cleaning more dishes. i used to think self care was almost synonymous with making things easier for yourself, but sometimes challenging yourself a little tiny bit more than usual is more rewarding than doing it the easiest way, although that isn’t true for everyone, i know, it’s just how things have turned out for me

this is truly the best summary of what all of this SHOULD be about

i hate seeing ‘all women are beautiful!’ when the issue is ‘all women have inherent worth as human beings regardless of who you like to look at’
