“Mazda” used to be so synonymous with light bulbs that according to a slang dictionary I checked, the columnist Walter Winchell referred to Broadway as “Mazda Lane” because of all the lights. I first came across “Mazda Lane” as a cute term for Broadway in a trailer for the movie Broadway Melody of 1936 (or was it 1938?). Now the term would probably be fairly mystifying. -Dwight Decker
