You and I remember Budapest very differently.

Everything Must Go

These are just some old sketches that I had saved on my phone. Nothing important, just saying hello. Happy Monday, no time for Garfield energy today, we need to have an energetic and positive mindset if we are going to make it through.

My personal opinion is that the main way for us to have a decent life is for us to reject the idea of “living for the weekend.” We need to make sure that we are finding beauty and enjoyment in every day of our lives. I’m going to chat with some friends after work 🙂

Happy Friday to you and yours! My name is Darryl Ayo, aka, Killjoy McCoy on twitter. I’m many things: a cartoonist, a critic, a zinester, et cetera. Sometimes I just want to think of myself as an illustrator. That feels nice. Attached here is a nifty sketch from one of my notebooks. This is what my art looks like and I think it’s pretty darn spiffy.

Without getting ahead of myself, I’m striving to sketch and doodle more these days. It helps your brain heal from the constant sense of urgency for “new ideas! Now now now!,” honestly, I just want to doodle in notebooks forever and occasionally harvest from whatever is planted there.

there was a time—not long ago—when the xmen traveled around by way of semisapient baby nightcrawlers.

Were they slaves? Nobody will say. The answer is clearly “yes.” Or maybe they were pets. Semihumanoid service animals.

In any case, the next time I looked at the xmen, the bamfs were gone and not discussed again. Yes. Somebody definitely explained to marvel that it’s weird for the xmen to have slaves.

I want to get back into gardening because it’s fun to pretend to be a wizard when taking part in the oldest process known to man. Actually the earth is doing it and the gardener just draws lines around sections and takes credit for what is within.

You might be surprised that the creator of the comic Little Garden is only a recent adopter of the act of gardening. That’s the way it goes sometimes. But gardening can teach a cartoonist a lot about the process of patiently developing a project.

the role of the person in the passenger seat is not only navigator but secretary as well. you have to type up the drivers messages to random ladies on facebook about cbd cream & google whether that billy joel song was the theme song for that show or not

you also have to provide a henchmans disdainful scowl at whoever the driver is flipping off in the target parking lot

other assorted roles may include

  • retrieval team for objects in the backseat
  • custodian of the parking garage tickets
  • "All clear my way"
  • en-route dining concierge
  • announcing "Horses!" when there are horses

Don't forget the Tommy Gun

You should never forget the Tommy Gun

anyone can make a zine, regardless of skill level or access to materials or design programs. all you need is paper, scissors and drawing utensils (although many people enjoy collaging!) web search "8 page 1 sheet zine how to".

everyone SHOULD make a zine too, you will feel so good about it ♡ it's about putting the power of production into the hands of the people! also you don't have to sell it or anything, you can just make one for yourself or trade/give some to friends!

and jaydragon/jdragsky's thread on staple's self serve print centres (if you're area does not have a local print shop, they probably have a staples or fedex print centre)

if you can't draw, here is twitter thread for public domain art and also a mini summary of when thing enter creative commons (generally 70 years after artist death in the US and CAD)

i also have a DIY zine page on my art blog that i am dedicated to updating as i find more resources! (not accessible through tumblr mobile app, mobile friendly, just open the link in a browser)

go make some zines!!!

Good morning 😃

My name is Ayo and I like tumblr. What a cute little app. Another thing that I like is the X-Men, aka, the Uncanny X-Men. They’re good dudes, just my opinion. One of the X-Men is named Cyclops, even though he has two eyes. He wears a visor that makes it seem as though he has one eye. I think that’s where he gets the name, just my fan theory. Another character in the X-Men is Marvel Girl, but she’s a lady, not a man. They can surprise you with this stuff so you have to stay on your toes!

I like other things, such as Japanese woodblock prints. Nothing else makes me think that I want to know how to paint. This stuff rocks.

Good morning, I am noodling on this doodle today. This isn’t for any real purpose; just need to watch myself bring something into existence 🤲🏾

I don’t know what I want to draw these days and so it’s a crucial period for aimless/mindless doodling. Gotta keep that neural pathway open! Essentially, I’m hoping to train my brain to associate doodling with “relief” and then hopefully, create an automatic habit response.

Hypothesis: if I train myself to draw when I feel stressed, then I’ll become the most prolific artist of all time.

🧠

Good morning! I forgot to put my new ear buds in my bookbag and my old earbuds are trash. So today I’m going to have to rawdog it at work

You hate to see it happen! You hate to see it.

Let this be a lesson to myself and to others: if you have a thought, take action right away. Otherwise, you will run the risk of not having your comfort tools packed and ready to go. And you’ll only realize this when you’re on the train and halfway to work. Be safe out there, babes.

Meanwhile, i’ve been reading Harsh Prospect by Will Tempest. It’s a webcomic on WEBTOON, you should check it out. It’s colorful and richly illustrated. I like the kind of webtoons that are visually dense and fully textured. Scientists encounter a mysterious blob. The thing seems suspicious, in my opinion!

I’ve also been reading the 3rd Voice by Evan Dahm, also on WEBTOON. Once again, this is a beautiful, fully illustrated webtoon with a strong sense of place.

Speaking of comics, I’m working on trying to repair my personal endurance and regain some of my demolished attention span. I have toyed with the idea of establishing a designated art time for myself—as a way to cordon off a space in my life to nurture and develop my art and creativity. I find it horrific that I have no problem with going to my job every day like clockwork, and yet I can’t seem to get myself to do this one thing that I actually love. Mentally I have taught myself to steal time from my personal needs to attend to the desires of an employer. It’s a bad trade.

Now pulling into Grand Central Station. Check to make sure you gather your belongings before leaving and have a great day!
